THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME Live-Action Remake Starring Josh Gad Reportedly Cancelled

>Now that Bob Iger is back in the driver's seat, it is highly unlikely that the project will move forward as Iger is not the biggest fan of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and a remake isn't in their list of priorities. Things can obviously change, but this is the most recent information there is on the project.

Another one bites the dust! Here's to many more shitty movies getting cancelled!

      >Cancelled live-action Hunchback.
      >Replaced it with live-action Tangled AND The Princess and the Frog.

      Not very bright, are we?

See, the difference is that Rapunzel and PatF have messages and morals that more relate to the individual, whereas Disney's Hunchback talked more about society as a whole (don't discriminate based on appearances, racism is bad, people who claim to be the most righteous are often anything but, abuse of power is bad, etc). They can (and probably will) put in more political messages in Tangled and PatF (they will NOT talk about racism in the 1920s though, you can guarantee that) but they'll be palatable and kind of vague "girls can do anything!". They straight up cannot remake Hunchback with the strategy they use to make the other ones. It already has several strong messages in it that can't be hidden behind metaphors. They can't give their version of Frollo the Cruella treatment and get marketing deals where they use him. They can't not cast someone who isn't disabled in some way to play Quasimodo. Of course Disney is running away from the idea of a remake of this movie, because it actually looks the audience in the face and sends a strong, clear message.

how could you turn the characters in The Princess and the Frog black if they're already black?

        >Lupita as Tiana
        Wtf? Isn't Tiana 19? And they're eyeing a 40 year old actress?

I feel like Lupita's name comes up every time a female black character is being cast. So far the remakes are going for younger actresses so I doubt this is real.

Lupita is a good actress but she's 40 and Tiana is 19 and her being a young dreamer is kind of important to the story.

Princess and the Frog had a great concept and setting but ended up mediocre. If you don’t have Keith David as Facilier then you don’t have a movie.

how could you turn the characters in The Princess and the Frog black if they're already black?

They’re going to remove the class issue with race.

I'd comment on Iger's bad taste but if it keeps this movie from being made then it may be a boon for once.

In the original, Quasimodo is a gypsy baby they swapped out with a french baby. The french baby grows up to be Esmeralda.

Live action remakes of CG Slop films would actually be an improvement, unlike the remakes of their classic hand drawn masterpieces. Of course, they'd still mostly be CG Slop.
