It has no actual plot. It's even more thinly veiled than a fricking Scott Adkins DVD action movie. No plot. homosexual Redditors will insert headcanon and their own delusional intepretations to save face but this is just shit. Fassbender was good and that Florida fight scene was excellent but there's nothing there. It being Netflixslop gave it no chance.
It’s so bad. First act is just him rambling these mildly edgy will-to-power aphorisms while doing yoga and listening to music. I can only assume they were all quotes from the book but they sound so stupid isolated from prose and rattled off one after another
It would have been kino if not for the shitty narration. Has fincher not seen Day of the Jackal? That movie is one extra hour of a silent autist just driving around and preparing for a hit. And it's considered a classic. This has a hit every 15-30 minutes and it still feels like he doesn't trust the audience to not get bored.
>day of the jackal enjoyer
Based. As for Killer, It's pure Reddit. The moment it was revealed he had a Latina gf and this was a lame revenge story is the moment I wanted to walk out. Then the ending was even worse. Shit movie. Truly garbage filmmaking for subhuman pseuds.
>Day one on Netflix. Already filtering millions.
It's like poetry.
he retires and sips martinis on the beach with his nameless gf we know nothing about and narrates to himself about how he maybe isn't an emotionless sociopath after all and that he might have feelings to like the rest of us. cut to black.
so the movie wasn't about him becoming a schizo? damn, that teaser where his voice over becomes more and more unhinged lied to me.

would be infinitely more kino if there was a twist, like in FC. he was imagining everything, in the end he was just a gamer obsessed with The Hitman series. there was no client, no target. just his mom screeching that tendies were ready.
yeah true. i mean fincher is well known since Se7en and FC, so why not make the twist be as you said: >fassbender goes around killing targets who he thinks are his "assignments" >second act reveals he has no handler, no clients, nothing, he's just a schizo serial killer >third act culminates in shootout with feds who have been tracking him this entire time but he eludes them because of his super paranoid tactics
would've been better than this abortion.

>b-but where did he get all his money???
simple, write the character so that his anti-gov anti-normie views led him to buy bitcoin early on, so he has enough wealth to live out this schizo fantasy. take a swipe at single lonely males who reject mainstream fiat, who browse deplorable sites like Cinemaphile
good god, we could've easily written a better movie.

that's a bit too out there. just make him a schizo hitman that starts to question his own reality. have him see people he's killed wandering around outside like nothing ever really happaned. have him think people are out to get him and have him go on a paranoid schizo killing spree, etc.

schizo hitman would be a refreshing take on the boring, overdone hitman trope.

Phone calls/voice notes? Automated and done by him to himself.
The clients/the handler? Could be people he knew personally (from his past)or knows personally. (Kinda like how in The Machinist the airport woman Christopher Bale meets up with is well you know the spoiler)
The end? The feds tracking him down or him going on a spree. Well the latter is more interesting but no stronger. I wonder how it can be executed
I really don't get what they were going for with the whole rambling voice over and him apparently "breaking his own rules" despite there never being no consequences to it. not to mention him getting all weepy over his nameless gf we only get to see for like 10 seconds AFTER she's been beaten and raped and is laying in a hospital bed. is the entire point of the movie that he secretly isn't a violent sociopath? the ending tries to tell you so, but I never really felt it. besides him not dissapearting the secretary because she wanted her children to find her body. the movie's insitence reminded me of the latest Hitman games. which also try to shove the fact that a cold blooded killer "ackshually has hidden emotion and le childhood trauma". like, who gives a shit? it just makes him more lame. do normalgays really need to see a sensitive side to every fricking main character in existence? even those that literally kill people for money?

Has this theme ever been done well?
Fincher even calls it a B-movie. Problem is that he doesn't know how to make one. Tonally, I mean. It's way too grim and nihilistic.

>Fincher even calls it a B-movie
To avoid criticism by being judged by higher standards. He's too self-conscious to make one. He's aware of his status and aware of what the critics/film snobs want. So he makes a self-conscious movie with a filmmaking style that's too slick for its own good. There are nihilistic B-movies but Fincher lacks the edge/visceral nature these days. Last time he had it was Zodiac.

I don't know what the frick is up with him these days. Mindhunter was amazing and he just dropped it two seasons in, despite it being planned and set up for at least five. I get that he wanted to film his dad's script and all, but what about this? Why did he waste years making this instead of returning to the show? A favour for an old friend, or something? This material is so fricking beneath him, it's unreal. The script is awful. No amount of visual polish can change that.

But that's the point. He made B-films with edge in the past. He's now lost that edge. This is way below Panic room. That was at least moderately entertaining.
What sensitive side? The dude was super brutal, he lives like a ghost so the moment someone is actually after him he just kills them all. His gf is just entertainment. I swear, you people are fricking moronic...
was there any other interpretation?
I thought it was pretty clear that he just had his plaything and everyone started stepping on his toes so they had to go

DID YOU NOT LISTEN TO THE ENDING MONOLOGUE, YOU STUPID Black person?! OR HIM CONSTANTLY CONTRADICTING HIS OWN CODE? OR HIM BEING ON THE VERGE OF TEARS WHEN HE FINDS HER IN THE HOSPITAL? THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE MOVIE IS HIM GOING ON A RISKY REVENGE MISSION BECAUSE HE'S EMOTIONALLY COMPROMISED!
The last scene before it cuts to black might indicate otherwise. There's a visible eye twitch implying he just enjoys killing. Doesn't care for the normie life. Pretty much the whole point of Q-Tip's joke.

the eye twitch is him being unnerved by the fact that he's one of the many. his emotional side is real. the movie wouldn't have happened if it wasn't. he wouldn't have gone out of his way to tak out the two people that hurt the girl. since he knows it's just business. he killed them because he WANTED to. which completely contradicts his mantra of "only fight the battles you're paid to fight". his handler even points out how reckless it was for him to return home. that he should have left the girl and gone off the grid the second he left Paris.
I did saw a movie where the main character ruthlessly kills everyone in his way...

See the truth is, the comic that the movie is based on is different. They humanize the assasin much more, they show how he started and the catalyst isn't him screwing up but him observing his target and seeing him put in 6 sugar cubes, and while he was observing this he couldn't kill him anymore because putting in so much sugar was such a weird act that made him a human. That's why you see that happening in the beginning of the movie, it's an easter egg. So Finched put in these elements as a homage, but ultimately the killer in Fincher's movie is way more brutal and to the point.

He's still supposed to be humanized. The writing in the movie is just way worse and relies on cheap lines like "how's giving a frick going?" and him contradicting his own narration to clue you in. Also what:

Wait, what? The EXACT same thing happens in the anime Monster. A professional assassin sees his target put 5 spoons of sugar in his coffee and the assassin has an epiphany that he's no enjoying life and that his perfectionism is meaningless.

That's right, i mistook it for that. I guess it was an easter egg about that. I re-read the comic and that part never happened, my memories just conflated the two. But it is true that the movie is way colder than the comics, where he even gets a team going that helps him with the killings.
>do normalgays really need to see a sensitive side to every fricking main character in existence? even those that literally kill people for money?
Unironiclly yes. Normies think that it humanizes them. Same with the trope of prostitute with a heart of gold.
He gets an autistic twitch right at the end.
Everything he says is recycled from somewhere else.
He even repeats Tilda Swinton's little wisdoms at the end.
All the false identities are meant to clue into it I think.
Particularly as they're all obviously from sitcoms.
Everything he is seems to be appropriated from outside (I bet his goofy autism outfit is from a movie too, not a rando German tourist), in the service of explaining what he does or why he does what he does. Which suggest he doesn't know why he does it really. He just likes the ritual of it or something. It's a puzzle obsession like we saw with House and his medical mysteries.
The fear we saw in his face at times was his fear of him not being able to keep doing it. So he erased everyone who knew what was going on, bar the client because I guess he didn't want it getting out that he's too dangerous to hire and he couldn't be sure the rich guy hadn't secreted details of it somewhere. If anything the rich guy will tell his buddies of the close call he had and this guy's rep would go off the charts. A guy who can get in anywhere just to deliver a message. He even baited the guy with different murder methods, like he implanting the idea that not everything needs to be a bullet, or quick.
The difference is that Fassbender's character is a lot more insecure about it. That's the point of his inner monologue.

>hitman who’s trying to convince himself he’s a cold-blooded killer, but he’s not
1. Way overplayed
2. You should be able to get that across without heavy-handed narration
>I really don't get what they were going for with the whole rambling voice over and him apparently "breaking his own rules" despite there never being no consequences to it.
The rape and beating of his friend was the consequence.
Imagine thinking that any sort of creative will keep churning out masterpieces after masterpieces decades into their work. Same as Scorsese gays. There are almost zero exceptions to this (say Kubrick).
>fassbender needs to fire his agent. He went from kino to dogshit in about a 2 year span of his career.
That was so bad. But then he wasn't truly kino. I thought he was leaving his 'promising' zone to 'certified kino' zone.
I'm starting to think Michael Fassbender hasn't been in a single good movie. I watched The Counselor after somebody recommended it in a thread and it was shit. Just utter shit. I can't believe people said it was as good NCFOM. I should have know it was shit when I saw Ridley Scott directed it.

Yeah I think he didn't want to have cops on his ass since killing a wealthy man is higher profile than some random dude. Just threatening him was enough.
Because in the end the customer is always right. Plus the killer realizes that Claybourne simply doesn’t care about him or his and is above all of those dynamics between assassins and their targets. He forgot about it as soon as he paid the insurance. In the end he turns out as cold and detached as Fassbender’s character wishes he was himself
Yeah I think he didn't want to have cops on his ass since killing a wealthy man is higher profile than some random dude. Just threatening him was enough.
At the very start of the Claybourne chapter, he literally says that the severity of law enforcement’s response is measured on the net worth of the victim, and that Claybourne is a risky target because of this. As he makes his way into Claybourne’s apartment he also states that he knows how this will go down based on his read of Claybourne’s eyes. When he confronts him, he realizes Claybourne is of the same cloth as Dolores and the Taxi Driver. They do have thin ties to the underworld life Fassbender is involved in, but they’re really just bystanders who don’t know what’s really going on. Whereas the other people he intentionally kills are seasoned players of the same game he’s involved with, they know the score. He spares Claybourne because he knows he isn’t going to come back at him, and the juice simply isn’t worth the squeeze.
Clayborne couldn't even pronounce Hodges name right, he called him Hedges. It was the lawyer that suggested to him to get rid of the K*_ller after failing his job. That and Claybornes death could've meant the end of the K*_ller after being recorded by camers while entering his apartment.

This is a dumb person's idea of a smart criticism. Nolan is the director of the general audience. A biopic doesn't make 950 million by pandering to redditors. Just see EEAAO. Made for reddit, made 10 times less. People who LARP as having refined taste(like you) don't appreciate Nolan films.

Tenet literally filtered those idiots. He made an actual weird confusing movie that couldn't be solved by using google or youtube explained. You literally had to feel the movie to understand what was happening.

You had to put up with JDW's negative charisma to watch Tenet. Don't give a frick about how confusing the plot was, I'm just sick of that no-talent nepo hack getting major roles. The Killer is far superior just on the strength of Fassbender.

>You had to put up with JDW's negative charisma to watch Tenet.
That is a big hurdle I will give you that. Such wasted casting when you have perfect Edward culling stealing all the scenes.
I thought it was fantastic. It reminded me of The Game, where Fincher took Hitchwiener's work and put it into an uglier contemporary setting where the protagonists are far more self-conscious. This time, he's doing it with Le Samourai.
It's finchers worst crime movie. The story sucked and fassbenders character could have been easily killed if everyone wasn't so moronic. Just a pretentious and bullshit movie
no. it's just an empty movie about a rembling autist you don't know or care about killing 3 shitty people you don't know care about until it just ends. there's also only one action scene in the entire movie.
And the "action scene" was pretty shit. Just felt bored the entire time watching mid fight choreography youd see in any generic action movie and thinking that the average jui jitsu grappler could beat either of these guys in about 30 seconds. I don't really like the John Wick movies but I think people appreciate those fight scenes because the character employs an actual self defense style that's applicable in real life fighting scenarios. In this movie you watch 2 trained killers who look like they've never been in a fight before.
I guess it was funny when the guy got his butthole impaled on a chair leg at least
Also im so sick of movies using the " whip a persons neck sideways = instant death" trope. Not only would it require basically inhuman strength to break a person's neck like that, but nothing about it would cause an immediate death, just paralysis
Im halfway through the movie and I can't get over what a complete fricking moron Fassbenders character is. How could this guy ever have been a successful hitman for such a long time? He's literally a moron
yeah, the script is really dumb. he's supposed to be this genius 200 IQ assassin but he's too stupid to realize that fricking up a major contract and ghosting his pissed off handler isn't going to bite him in the ass. he just casually drives back home and acts surprised that thare was any sort of retaliation. doesn't even call his gf to meet him somewhere else.
>robs the cab company owner whos seen his face in the town he lives in >immediately kills one of the cab company drivers
He would've been arrested the same day.
Also after fricking up the hit in Paris why the frick wouldn't he just call his GF and tell her to buy a plane ticket to some other country and meet him there? How was he expecting their to be no consequences for flubbing a job for some extremely powerful client? He expected to just go home and continue living his life like nothing happened even though his black handler told him on the phone he was gonna have to make it up to the client
Mank had good acting because Oldman is great, but I couldn't stand the digital black and white look of the movie. Also I hate the movies theory that Mank was the secret genius behind Welles. Feels like that shits been thoroughly debunked
This movie makes much more sense when you realize it was written by Andrew Kevin Walker. Fincher's old buddy from Se7en. This was literally just a side-project that Fincher agreed to do for his friend.
Tilda Swinton shouldve just told a waiter the man at her table had a gun. He immediately gets arrested. The end. He's like the least believable hitman ever
The writing in this was so bad. The Killer caused all of his own problems, shouldve been caught multiple times, half the people he killed didn't make sense to kill and the 2 people he spared are the 2 people who could've gotten him caught. Also his philosophizing narration sounded like it was written by an edgy midwit 15 year old. Fassbender's acting felt phoned in too, or maybe hes just not a very good actor
There's not really much to get. Its a very generic, borderline bad script and the autistic methodical hitman cliche has been done much better many times. He's an honestly pretty stupid character.
The funniest thing about this movie is he killed everyone EXCEPT the billionaire sheckleberg who commissioned his assassination. It was ridiculous. The guy who deserved to die the most out of everyone survived
The billionaire was told they were gonna tie up loose ends so he wouldnt have any exposure. So he knew they were gonna do something to the hitman that had been used. But he obviously had no idea the guy had a girlfriend who would end up getting involved.
But Fassbenders character had no reason to even think the billionaire would have know he had a girlfriend or expressly signed off on anything related to the hitmans family or significant others to begin with. Why would he? Fassbender didn't learn anything talking to the billionaire that he shouldn't have just already assumed with common sense
But Fassbenders character was a total moron so I guess it makes sense for him
He repeated the "do not trust ANYONE" so one can imagine he has other mental issues and could have assumed the hitmen and whoever hired them would do anything to him or anyone close to him. Just to frick with him more. And then he believed the rich guy it wasn't the intention, but yeah he was autistic tard and I'm drunk
And the Billionaire -- who had no idea who he was -- wasn't? If The Killer wanted revenge, then kill him. If he wanted "security", how about not letting him know you exist, are still alive and showing him and his security cameras your face?
He said his disguise was replicating a German tourist but he stuck out like a sore thumb everywhere he went, especially in the town he lived in where he was probably the only white guy in the area
This wasn't even that visually interesting either. And Mank was straight up ugly. Fincher clearly had no concept of how to light a black and white movie to accentuate the contrast so it was just washed out. It looked like they just slapped on a b&w filter in post
Fincher WISHES this movie was as earnest as John Wick. At least when you watch those flicks you already know you're going to see a live action video game with no stakes made by a literal who director. Not a single person involved in this project expected it to be anything less than high cinema because of Fincher's resume. And the terrible audience reactions reflect it.
And the Billionaire -- who had no idea who he was -- wasn't? If The Killer wanted revenge, then kill him. If he wanted "security", how about not letting him know you exist, are still alive and showing him and his security cameras your face?
>And the Billionaire -- who had no idea who he was -- wasn't?
Yes. He was the only person who was high profile enough for their assassination to put pressure on anyone who was responsible.
>If he wanted "security", how about not letting him know you exist, are still alive and showing him and his security cameras your face?
So much of this movie is about how the killer isn't actually perfect at his job. But the gist I got from their entire interaction was that the billionaire was so oblivious and detached from what calling a hit actually entailed that he didn't even imagine that it could have undue consequences. Just compare his reaction to seeing the killer for the first time to Tilda Swinton's.
How much blame/praise should a director get for a script they didn't write? Most criticism I see for this, and other Fincher films, usually comes down to the story or script. Should that be laid at his feet even if he consistently elevates the material he is given/chooses?
It was so fricking boring. There was no character arc. No tension. You didn't even see his girlfriend before she was beaten to know what he was protecting
I thought this was just going to be atmospheric slice of life with Fassbender going around hitting targets, not this dumb story. At least we know he gets fricked by Gina Carcano in the end.
I understood what they were going for in the opening, showing a methodical and grounded take on hitting, but the narration just killed it on arrival. Ruined the already paltry atmosphere
>wot habbens if a pro assassin misses his mark >and they send more hitmen to take him out >but he takes them out >and then retires with his ugly mutt gf who is over 30 yrs of age.
sounds like that's basically the gist of it. why can't fassie pick good movies to be in, is his real passion going fast in cars?
It was a Fincher self-insert. The entire thing is a metaphor for his filmmaking career, which is probably a lot cooler than anything else Fassbender was getting offered.
It's front loaded, I wish the back half had more philosophizing and random quotes. The comic had more edge to it, I'm disappointed this didn't too. Solid movie but clearly lower budget. That said, this movie is all direction.
Yeah, the secobd half REALLY fizzles out into nothing. He kills the brute. Has a slow chat with Tilda Swinton before taking her out back and blowing her brains out. And then just casually strolls into the rich guys apartment to threaten him before he retires. Like, what? That's it?!
>The second half REALLY fizzles into nothing
Yeah I agree, I was baffled at everything Tilda onward when I saw it in the theater but it makes a little more sense after watching it again. He is inches away from Tilda in the car and she doesn't notice him, it just goes to show how lazy she'd become. She didn't care anymore. Her time was up.
He waltzes into the billionaire's apartment which more or less shows the powerful aren't really that smart or gifted. He's presented as a dork who runs on the treadmill in jeans. Fassbender makes it obvious the billionaire had no idea why he was there about to kill him. The Brute raped his girlfriend. Fassbender didn't even have bullets in the gun because he wasn't gonna risk exposure without knowing the truth. The background TV in the apartment is talking about the Euro vs. the US dollar which loops back to what the hit in the opening was really about.
The movie operates as a metaphor for filmmaking and acting but also as a satire or comment on the present. The comic goes much deeper into the socio-political angle of assassinations, murder, genocide, and more, so I think this was a little lacking. I wonder how much the final scene was Fincher making a jab at Zuckerberg "I'll be back" because none of that is in the comic. It's my personal interpretation anyway.
>And then just casually strolls into the rich guys apartment to threaten him before he retires. Like, what? That's it?!
And as a follow up to
>The second half REALLY fizzles into nothing
The ending implies The Killer isn't a normie. He can't retire. "I am what I am". His little twitch was the tell.
>stylish
It was bog standard at best. No interesting shots, no flair, the narration was awful, and the little title graphic was such a jarring tonal mismatch
If you think this was stylish then your favorite film is probably a nature documentary
>this movie was leagues better than, say, Gone Girl or The Social Network, which I despise.
I can understand why people despise The Social Network but please elaborate? I'm curious of your opinion.
This is a weird movie to make so deep into your career. Is he just extremely bored or something? I don't get why Fincher would make this, everything about it is mediocre and dull.
Literally "Nobody" was a better John Wick knock-off.
In addition to the questionable overall movie, I was distracted by the poor compositing VFX work in this movie and the constant ADR. It made me wonder if some actors were replaced like the black chick at the airport with the Texas drawl.
I noticed some fake shake in the big fight scene with The Brute. What did you mean by motion tracking? The big drone shot of Florida for example is a lot of CG and oddly enough the staircase in the scene in Paris is CG. I noticed it jutter when The Killer returns from getting McDs
>What did you mean by motion tracking?
It's when you make the focal point on something moving in post production. This example is exaggerated but I feel I can see something like it in the film.
What I got out of the Killer was that it was a satire of a striver Upper PMC type through the lens of a sociopathic hitmen.
It's like a mockery of the McKinsey consultants equating them to heartless murderers.
All the stupid jargon and slogans combined with travel bullshit and replacing your humanity with 'success'.
>It's really just about modern capitalism and society
Communism is complete bullshit and has and will never work.
National Socialism is the actual ideology that works but is essentially outlawed due to israelites.
I'm not promoting or discrediting any views. But it's clear the movie makes it clear it's all "dog eat dog world". The comic is arguably a passive instruction to not fall for this Western society bullshit. It's arguably why the Killer has a brown girlfriend. You can interpret the movie a lot of different ways.
We don't hate it we're just disappointed it's not better. We're in a serious kino drought here man. We've watched all the old movies/shows and are plumbing the lower depths at this point. Have you seen the 1990s TV show threads going on?
It was mossad propaganda but the Bergs “Munich” had real tension for all the assassinations. Finchers direction in this at the level of your average tv show. https://youtu.be/A_w6FTbeL8k?si=PMwOteG0HR5cHM4a
you wouldn't get it, you're just a 'normie'
I couldn't believe my ears when I heard him say it. I checked back after watching it and it was real. Fincher has lost his mind.
he's so sigma
Fincher is a pussy for backing out of the Pretty Baby remake
he says "normie" in the movie?
yes see here
the scene was great and Fincher is based for this
>Fincher has lost his mind.
at the 1 hr 35 min mark and it's just ok, watchable once. going to finish it because why not.
how shit is this? what happened to Fincher?
It has no actual plot. It's even more thinly veiled than a fricking Scott Adkins DVD action movie. No plot. homosexual Redditors will insert headcanon and their own delusional intepretations to save face but this is just shit. Fassbender was good and that Florida fight scene was excellent but there's nothing there. It being Netflixslop gave it no chance.
thanks, I will save my time then
>movies need a plot
You should check out M. Sir Shyamalan or Marvel movies if you're looking for a traditional story structure.
>No plot
lmao can you be more of a moronic homosexual?
please don't use big reddit words if you don't know what they mean
>Netflixslop
so basically another Gray Man. i'm so tired of these "hitman betrays his company and goes on the run" movies.
the k*_*ller
somebody this morning said its an excellent meta talking on the process of filmmaking.
wat.
FRICKNG NETFLIX CANCELLED MINDHUNTER THE ONLY SHIT THEY EVER DID GOOD
he's the one that decided to drop it. Netflix didn't force him to do shit.
Why do you bother watching netflix stuff? It's all terrible and it's so easily avoidable
Streaming services are where directors and films go to die.
It’s so bad. First act is just him rambling these mildly edgy will-to-power aphorisms while doing yoga and listening to music. I can only assume they were all quotes from the book but they sound so stupid isolated from prose and rattled off one after another
Is this out already? I didn't see anything about it.
yes on shitflix and torrent obv
It would have been kino if not for the shitty narration. Has fincher not seen Day of the Jackal? That movie is one extra hour of a silent autist just driving around and preparing for a hit. And it's considered a classic. This has a hit every 15-30 minutes and it still feels like he doesn't trust the audience to not get bored.
>day of the jackal enjoyer
Based. As for Killer, It's pure Reddit. The moment it was revealed he had a Latina gf and this was a lame revenge story is the moment I wanted to walk out. Then the ending was even worse. Shit movie. Truly garbage filmmaking for subhuman pseuds.
>le netflix slop heckin filtered you
moron.
What's the ending.
he retires and sips martinis on the beach with his nameless gf we know nothing about and narrates to himself about how he maybe isn't an emotionless sociopath after all and that he might have feelings to like the rest of us. cut to black.
feelings too*
Oh, not as bad as I thought. Thanks, I'll give this slop a watch. Is his girlfriend hot?
>Is his girlfriend hot?
yes
Even better. Thanks anon. Gonna go enjoy the new GoySlop.
he thought he was literally him but he literally wasn't the whole time
I thought i was the guy he thought he was, but i guess i'm the guy he really was, just a normie
so the movie wasn't about him becoming a schizo? damn, that teaser where his voice over becomes more and more unhinged lied to me.
would be infinitely more kino if there was a twist, like in FC. he was imagining everything, in the end he was just a gamer obsessed with The Hitman series. there was no client, no target. just his mom screeching that tendies were ready.
That's an old twist though.
>he's just a guy imagining everything
>he's a lab subject imagining everything
>he's in a dream/coma imagining everything
Though how about he's imagining himself to be The Killer© while killing innocent people and being a schizo murderer thusly.
yeah true. i mean fincher is well known since Se7en and FC, so why not make the twist be as you said:
>fassbender goes around killing targets who he thinks are his "assignments"
>second act reveals he has no handler, no clients, nothing, he's just a schizo serial killer
>third act culminates in shootout with feds who have been tracking him this entire time but he eludes them because of his super paranoid tactics
would've been better than this abortion.
>b-but where did he get all his money???
simple, write the character so that his anti-gov anti-normie views led him to buy bitcoin early on, so he has enough wealth to live out this schizo fantasy. take a swipe at single lonely males who reject mainstream fiat, who browse deplorable sites like Cinemaphile
good god, we could've easily written a better movie.
that's a bit too out there. just make him a schizo hitman that starts to question his own reality. have him see people he's killed wandering around outside like nothing ever really happaned. have him think people are out to get him and have him go on a paranoid schizo killing spree, etc.
schizo hitman would be a refreshing take on the boring, overdone hitman trope.
>name is fassbender
>can bend really far back
wow.
the teaser trailer literally frames it as that. with hit repetitive rambling becoming more and more distorted. and his delivery more and more confused and unsure of itself.
i got that impression too, unfortunately that's not the case. oh well.
Gettin some nice American Psycho vibes from this one without the satire part of course.Even Anons here can think up a better script than pro scriptwriters.
>Even Anons here can think up a better script than pro scriptwriters.
that's been the case for years, buddyroo.
>second act reveals he has no handler, no clients, nothing, he's just a schizo serial killer
I wonder how it can be executed
sounds like shit, congratulations!
danke
>dude just make fight club again!
you are a moron
>*eye twitches*
So it's about how the plebs are fricked up bloodthirsty freaks - didn't we already have Tenet?
It's so boring even he falls asleep by the end of the movie
I really don't get what they were going for with the whole rambling voice over and him apparently "breaking his own rules" despite there never being no consequences to it. not to mention him getting all weepy over his nameless gf we only get to see for like 10 seconds AFTER she's been beaten and raped and is laying in a hospital bed. is the entire point of the movie that he secretly isn't a violent sociopath? the ending tries to tell you so, but I never really felt it. besides him not dissapearting the secretary because she wanted her children to find her body. the movie's insitence reminded me of the latest Hitman games. which also try to shove the fact that a cold blooded killer "ackshually has hidden emotion and le childhood trauma". like, who gives a shit? it just makes him more lame. do normalgays really need to see a sensitive side to every fricking main character in existence? even those that literally kill people for money?
>to mention him getting all weepy over his nameless gf we only get to see for like 10 seconds AFTER she's been beaten and raped and is laying in a hospital bed. is the entire point of the movie that he secretly isn't a violent sociopath? the ending tries to tell you so, but I never really felt it. besides him not dissapearting the secretary because she wanted her children to find her body. the movie's insitence reminded me of the latest Hitman games. which also try to shove the fact that a cold blooded killer "ackshually has hidden emotion and le childhood trauma". like, who gives a shit?
Has this theme ever been done well?
That's B-movie concept that can only be done with B-movie sincerity. Like this.
?si=_TFZVtRF8QjkRdTq
>Mindhunter
slop
his last good film was gone girl
but he has always made meh b movies, perhaps anons are forgetting
>The Game
>Panic Room
>Le Dragon Tattoo
Le Benjamin Button isn't really a B film but it still sucks (no I didn't watch it)
But that's the point. He made B-films with edge in the past. He's now lost that edge. This is way below Panic room. That was at least moderately entertaining.
Mindhunter is great
Peak Kinography tbqhfam. The only good naruto speech.
Boy, lend me your kunai
i miss when naruto was good man
Maybe Kill Bill, but that's partly because it was ludicrous that a woman was a ninja in the first place
What sensitive side? The dude was super brutal, he lives like a ghost so the moment someone is actually after him he just kills them all. His gf is just entertainment. I swear, you people are fricking moronic...
was there any other interpretation?
I thought it was pretty clear that he just had his plaything and everyone started stepping on his toes so they had to go
Well a bunch of people in this thread apparently...
You need to improve your samegayging anon.
wrong
shill thread btw
Pay attention next time.
Also what:
Said.
>but him observing his target and seeing him put in 6 sugar cubes, and while he was observing this he couldn't kill him anymore because putting in so much sugar was such a weird act that made him a human
Wait, what? The EXACT same thing happens in the anime Monster. A professional assassin sees his target put 5 spoons of sugar in his coffee and the assassin has an epiphany that he's no enjoying life and that his perfectionism is meaningless.
?si=ivOHpOLiGcGAQwDh
There was a movie where a guy who thinks he lives in action movies already. Drive.
The difference is that Fassbender's character is a lot more insecure about it. That's the point of his inner monologue.
>hitman who’s trying to convince himself he’s a cold-blooded killer, but he’s not
1. Way overplayed
2. You should be able to get that across without heavy-handed narration
>There was a movie where a guy who thinks he lives in action movies already. Drive.
Yeah this is in pretty much an inferior Drive.
>I really don't get what they were going for with the whole rambling voice over and him apparently "breaking his own rules" despite there never being no consequences to it.
The rape and beating of his friend was the consequence.
>I wanted to walk out.
Of where, your bedroom?
>The moment it was revealed he had a Latina gf is the moment I wanted to walk out.
"A half Latina girlfriend in the Dominican Republic? I'm going insane!"
it's a comic adaptation, the comic is all narration
Imagine thinking that any sort of creative will keep churning out masterpieces after masterpieces decades into their work. Same as Scorsese gays. There are almost zero exceptions to this (say Kubrick).
Kubrick would have inevitably made shit if he lived longer
I do not expect creatives to keep creating masterpieces as you say but I expect some level of consistency.
Also fassbender needs to fire his agent. He went from kino to dogshit in about a 2 year span of his career.
>fassbender needs to fire his agent. He went from kino to dogshit in about a 2 year span of his career.
That was so bad. But then he wasn't truly kino. I thought he was leaving his 'promising' zone to 'certified kino' zone.
Michael Mann too
>Day one on Netflix. Already filtering millions.
It's like poetry.
>the k•_.ller
boring title
_. is N in Morse code so actually, it's "Knller"
I'll watch it eventually but I guess there's no rush

Maybe you're just like me.
I actually liked, but I don't understand why he didn't killed Clayborne. Was it the camera filming him in the hall?
Yeah I think he didn't want to have cops on his ass since killing a wealthy man is higher profile than some random dude. Just threatening him was enough.
Because in the end the customer is always right. Plus the killer realizes that Claybourne simply doesn’t care about him or his and is above all of those dynamics between assassins and their targets. He forgot about it as soon as he paid the insurance. In the end he turns out as cold and detached as Fassbender’s character wishes he was himself
Also, this
He forshadows it in the beginning of the capter
He wants to be low profile, killing a billionaire will invite attention.
He realised it wasn't him who wanted him dead after he missed the shot, it was the hitman org killing him off
At the very start of the Claybourne chapter, he literally says that the severity of law enforcement’s response is measured on the net worth of the victim, and that Claybourne is a risky target because of this.

Good movie, good parallel to Fincher's own career. The fight in the middle was better than everything in those John Shit movies. Ending it with fassbender realizing that he's just a normie and essentially accepting defeat in the grand scheme of things, not making a braindead mistake by outright killing the billionaire, all so he can continue living, was perfect.

Very disappointed that Fincher chose this script for directing.
Who are some directors that actually remained consistently good over the course of decades? Seems like mostly all of them fall off eventually and make garbage then can't come back from it.
Nolan.
Lol. LMAO!
Hate him all you want but he released a film that's again the talk of year. Fincher's films are getting the worst kind of reception. Apathy.
>Hate him all you want but he released a film that's again the talk of year.
because he's the god of making midwit redditors feel like they're hecking smart men of "refined" taste. Oppensheisser was the epidemy of "oh my basedence" capeshit.
>because he's the god of making midwit redditors feel like they're hecking smart men of "refined" taste.
>A biopic doesn't make 950 million by pandering to redditors
that's exactly how it does
Then can you tell me why reddit movies like The Social Network, Lincoln, Killer's of the flower moon didn't make as much?
they weren't made by capeshit directors
May as well be. These are some of the most reddit movies ever made. Made to pander to reddit sensibilities by directors who are loved by reddit. I guess redditors like you aren't the majority in real life. Kek.
whatever helps you cope, zoomer.
Cope about what? That Nolan is more successful that your favourite director? Sure, kek.
I don't care about who's more successful, lol. I just don't like shitty, astroturfed, meme movies like Le Bomb. I'd respect Nolan more if he'd stuck to capeshit. The Dark Knight is a really fun movie. And Memento is probably his best.
>because he's the god of making midwit redditors feel like they're hecking smart men
Tenet literally filtered those idiots. He made an actual weird confusing movie that couldn't be solved by using google or youtube explained. You literally had to feel the movie to understand what was happening.
Nolan is the biggest hack of the 21st century. Only thing he's made that rises to a mediocre level is Insomnia, and maybe Begins.
People will laugh but this is correct. Not a huge fan but i am always interested when he releases a new movie.
I thought it was fantastic. It reminded me of The Game, where Fincher took Hitchwiener's work and put it into an uglier contemporary setting where the protagonists are far more self-conscious. This time, he's doing it with Le Samourai.
Just finished it. I enjoyed it.
One of the better movies this year.
reminder that /tv is the most reddit board and most of you love goyslop netflixshit and will gladly pay for your addiction to consuming entertainment.
It's finchers worst crime movie. The story sucked and fassbenders character could have been easily killed if everyone wasn't so moronic. Just a pretentious and bullshit movie
>fricking reddit tier john wick dog shit.
pls say you're lying, is it really that bad?
Go watch for yourself, i liked it, and it's a normal movie runtime not 3 or so hours like most movies are today...
no. it's just an empty movie about a rembling autist you don't know or care about killing 3 shitty people you don't know care about until it just ends. there's also only one action scene in the entire movie.
He's lying, its more like hitman on silent assassin
Im halfway through the movie and I can't get over what a complete fricking moron Fassbenders character is. How could this guy ever have been a successful hitman for such a long time? He's literally a moron
yeah, the script is really dumb. he's supposed to be this genius 200 IQ assassin but he's too stupid to realize that fricking up a major contract and ghosting his pissed off handler isn't going to bite him in the ass. he just casually drives back home and acts surprised that thare was any sort of retaliation. doesn't even call his gf to meet him somewhere else.
>robs the cab company owner whos seen his face in the town he lives in
>immediately kills one of the cab company drivers
He would've been arrested the same day.
Also after fricking up the hit in Paris why the frick wouldn't he just call his GF and tell her to buy a plane ticket to some other country and meet him there? How was he expecting their to be no consequences for flubbing a job for some extremely powerful client? He expected to just go home and continue living his life like nothing happened even though his black handler told him on the phone he was gonna have to make it up to the client
He also shows his face through the window, puts the mask on when the guy opens the door and then immediately takes it off when inside, kek.
Its so fricking dumb
would anyone be so kind to gib link? all I can find are the shitty cams from a week ago, moronic, I know, please understand
Movieuniverse
>Le Samourai if it shit
Fincher has sucked for awhile
Nah. Mank was good. Mindhunter was great. House of Cards was sabotaged by Spacey. Gone Girl is one of his best.
Mank had good acting because Oldman is great, but I couldn't stand the digital black and white look of the movie. Also I hate the movies theory that Mank was the secret genius behind Welles. Feels like that shits been thoroughly debunked
>Fincher has sucked for awhile
frick off. This is his only misfire you homosexual.
How was that movie MANK?
Pretty good. If you're interested into the subject.
The end. He's like the least believable hitman ever
>still no 4K
2023?
never watched a netflix show or movie in my life and never will
don't care who made it or who's in it
i will not watch netflix
ok Karen
The writing in this was so bad. The Killer caused all of his own problems, shouldve been caught multiple times, half the people he killed didn't make sense to kill and the 2 people he spared are the 2 people who could've gotten him caught. Also his philosophizing narration sounded like it was written by an edgy midwit 15 year old. Fassbender's acting felt phoned in too, or maybe hes just not a very good actor
>every single director I used to like is making absolute goyslop these days
what's even the point of watching movies anymore?
There isn't any. Good movies aren't made anymore
watch film festival stuff then
think I'll just watch Thief again
I am 39 years old. I have a feeling that I will 'get' this movie. Is it out on "digital" btw?
There's not really much to get. Its a very generic, borderline bad script and the autistic methodical hitman cliche has been done much better many times. He's an honestly pretty stupid character.
Standard netflix picture quality is unbelievably bad, I have an account. Had to re-download this kino to watch it like a man.
Is it true that the movie is filled with The Smiths songs
Yes the main character only listens to The Smiths throughout the movie
It was pretty good. Of course you whine about memes spouted but you still spout memes yourself
The funniest thing about this movie is he killed everyone EXCEPT the billionaire sheckleberg who commissioned his assassination. It was ridiculous. The guy who deserved to die the most out of everyone survived
He also spared the cab company owner who saw his face
I thought the client wasn't aware they were going to kill his gf and that was all he cared about in his revenge
And then he believed the rich guy it wasn't the intention, but yeah he was autistic tard and I'm drunk
desu
>let's give him a wife to drive the plot forward
>an invisible hitman would totally settle down and get married
> Be inconspicuous
> Carry around a dozen burner cell phones
He said his disguise was replicating a German tourist but he stuck out like a sore thumb everywhere he went, especially in the town he lived in where he was probably the only white guy in the area
>be inconspicuous
>other assassin is described as a q-tip
A pair consisting of a hulking thug and a tall fancy dressing albino woman. Literally couldn't have stood out more traveling together if they tried
> Have a safe house where you can hide
> It's an inconspicuous multi-million dollar estate on the beach.
Every aspect of this movie was idiotic. It's genuinely just a really bad script.
David Fincher is just Ridley Scott in disguise. A craftsman with no taste.
This wasn't even that visually interesting either. And Mank was straight up ugly. Fincher clearly had no concept of how to light a black and white movie to accentuate the contrast so it was just washed out. It looked like they just slapped on a b&w filter in post
mediocre Ridley Scott slop (ie GI Jane, White Squall) is a hundred times better than this crap
> Be inconspicuous
> All your alias are memorable le wacky tv show character names
When the netflix dust finally settles and you chuds will realize this is a great slowburn
genre redefining, bone chilling, trope subverting, blood curtling slow burn? HECK YES
I don't get why people are comparing this with John Wick so much
Fincher WISHES this movie was as earnest as John Wick. At least when you watch those flicks you already know you're going to see a live action video game with no stakes made by a literal who director. Not a single person involved in this project expected it to be anything less than high cinema because of Fincher's resume. And the terrible audience reactions reflect it.
I just get the feeling that some expected Wick style fighting and action. It's more a thriller than action.
>Netflix
Why would you even bother?
The title is so fricking genric. Why would you share the same name as jon woo masterpiece yah pleb.
imagine thinking a canadian asswipe who made gone girl is any good, kek
everyone on here has trashed it, wherever you got your hopes up it wasnt on teevee
> Be a professional
> Don't carry a backup weapon
It was good tbh nice thriller but why does he wear a fitbit? No omega?
Meh, I didn't really care for this movie. Didn't really suck me in. Just an average procedural.
> Muh Code
> Lets the Billionaire skate
> Kills the innocent cab driver
The entire point was that everybody he killed beforehand was disposable. The movie spells out it for you.
>everybody he killed beforehand was disposable.
Just compare his reaction to seeing the killer for the first time to Tilda Swinton's.
>are still alive and showing him and his security cameras your face?
that only becomes a concern if he killed him
How much blame/praise should a director get for a script they didn't write? Most criticism I see for this, and other Fincher films, usually comes down to the story or script. Should that be laid at his feet even if he consistently elevates the material he is given/chooses?
Its for people who are good at things
I didn't think it was terrible but it was kinda boring.
> Assassin
> Can't get off a second shot with a magazine feed rifle
The average deer hunter can do that.
second shot draws more attention to position, less time to get away
>hulking professional hitman that was so silent that he surprised even Fassbender`s character, almost beat him in melee....
>....was wounded by Fassbender`s girlfriend who ran away an succefully hid in the jungle after bein brutally beaten, tortured and probably raped
Wut?
>white assassin, rich, good looking
>has some dime a dozen Dominican gf
yeah right lol
Well she's mad cute. She's a famous telenovela actress here in Brazil. You barely see her face though and she barely gets any screen time.
>Well she's mad cute.
lol no
Yeah that's a cutie right there. Maybe you're a homo? It's okay if you are.
it was comfy hitmankino
I understand you're upset about nobody going to see your movie Brie but you have to stop this. It isn't good for your mental health.
Ruined the already paltry atmosphere
>wot habbens if a pro assassin misses his mark
>and they send more hitmen to take him out
>but he takes them out
>and then retires with his ugly mutt gf who is over 30 yrs of age.
sounds like that's basically the gist of it. why can't fassie pick good movies to be in, is his real passion going fast in cars?
It was a Fincher self-insert. The entire thing is a metaphor for his filmmaking career, which is probably a lot cooler than anything else Fassbender was getting offered.
>fincher, netflix, million+ pay
who could turn it down. i probably wouldn't.
t.filtered normie redditor homosexual
t.david fincher's assistant who is also wearing a buttplug at 2:40pm
9 minutes in and already three mentions of corporations or logos in the voiceover:
wework
mcdonalds
airbnb
classic fincher.
Gotta make money somehow since it’s on Netflix
Like, what? That's it?!
And as a follow up to
The ending implies
The Killer isn't a normie.
Liked the style but essentially it was just a boring revenge story which didn't make a lot of sense and felt like it was written like a fanfic
>this movie was leagues better than, say, Gone Girl or The Social Network, which I despise.
I can understand why people despise The Social Network but please elaborate? I'm curious of your opinion.
mass replier homosexual with the most moronic opinions as usual
If they were so moronic then how come you couldn't come up with even a semblence of an argument to refute them?
I never knew assassins listened to so much homosexual music.
This is a weird movie to make so deep into your career. Is he just extremely bored or something? I don't get why Fincher would make this, everything about it is mediocre and dull.
Literally "Nobody" was a better John Wick knock-off.
It's not a John Wick knockoff at all.
It’s really called The KiBlack personller?
Get the frick out of here /misc/tard. We don't tolerate racists here.
he actually does kill quite a few PoCs, a surprisingly high % of his revenge hits are PoCs. like over 50%.
no you are, b***h. wanna fight?
i actually enjoy the "what if a hitman misses" premise but yes overall too slow and predictable.
>It’s really called The KiBlack personller?
His most gruesome kills are nogs.
I liked it a lot. A complaint I have is I felt the Brute was a pretty bad actor the few times he spoke
In addition to the questionable overall movie, I was distracted by the poor compositing VFX work in this movie and the constant ADR. It made me wonder if some actors were replaced like the black chick at the airport with the Texas drawl.
I liked it but noticeably lower budget.
There was also some weird motion tracking thing and possibly fake handheld going on in the action scenes.
I know what it is, I meant where did you see it? I'm not disagreeing, there were some "off" scenes".
In the fight scene in Florida
also before he enters the restaurant where Q-Tip is having lunch
What I got out of the Killer was that it was a satire of a striver Upper PMC type through the lens of a sociopathic hitmen.
It's like a mockery of the McKinsey consultants equating them to heartless murderers.
All the stupid jargon and slogans combined with travel bullshit and replacing your humanity with 'success'.
It's really just about modern capitalism and society. "You'd have to be a pure sociopath in order to have success". This is what it takes.
You can interpret the movie a lot of different ways.
>the consensus is in: Cinemaphile hates a movie
stop the fricking presses
We don't hate it we're just disappointed it's not better. We're in a serious kino drought here man. We've watched all the old movies/shows and are plumbing the lower depths at this point. Have you seen the 1990s TV show threads going on?
We are in a bad way. No bully.
I shouldn't have said "better". I should have said "more than what it is."
>Mank made $120,000 to $25m budget and did poorly on Netflix
>direct to Netflix the Killer failed to break top 10
Finch is so fricking done.
Fincher is just not hungry anymore. Another director with a career that will end with a whimper. Kinda sad.
I don't care what anyone says, Mank was kino
Just got done watching this. Yeesh that was dogshit
Mank was great.
Fassbender's best film is the one with Sarah Gadon.
pic related is still my favorite cuz it's the most relatable for Cinemaphile
Yeah I really do only use one bowl, one spoon, one knife etc. A regimented life is very liberating.
It was mossad propaganda but the Bergs “Munich” had real tension for all the assassinations. Finchers direction in this at the level of your average tv show. https://youtu.be/A_w6FTbeL8k?si=PMwOteG0HR5cHM4a
