the killing joke

why do people hate this scene?
when i watched i just though
>oh she like bruce that way,ok
>will he open up to her?
then i learned this scene was controversial?
i don't get it,why is wrong for batgirl to like batman?
it seems pretty straight up to me.

Because it wasn't part of the original Killing Joke story? It was some bad original story tacked on to extend the running time when people just wanted to see TKJ adapted.

I'd have to talk to the writers of the movie, but I have a theory about this scene. Later, Babs avoids Batman for a while. The Joker then shows up, presses his gun in her lower abdomen, just below her belt, and shoots her. When Batman visits her in the hospital, I maintain that there's a cut line, something to the effect of "We couldn't save the baby."
It's something to parallel the Joker's torture of Gordon, to give him that One Bad Day that would turn him crazy. It's something that could give Batman his One Bad Day and actually drive him crazy enough to kill. It wasn't part of the Joker's plan, he didn't know about their relationship. But it would certainly have affected Batman pretty strongly. It's really the only reason I can think of for the sex scene.

That makes sense. I can see DC cut this telenovela angle if your theory is true.

That's because you're an immature moron who refuses to accept that life, morality, and human relationships all have nuance.

I don't give two shits about le controversy of the ship. I hate that whole sequence because it has 0 bearing on the actual story. It was just a bad attempt at making Barbara less of a plot device in a story that really isn't about her but about Gordon and Batman.

Americans get weirded out by older dudes hooking up with women much younger than they are. I don't know where it came from but it's definitely a recent phenomenon.

When you have a comic that’s pretty well-written and self-contained, and then you get a bunch of writers to add a bunch of shit to it to pad it out, you end up with a not so great movie. When the movie closely followed the comic, it was pretty good, and when it deviated it was bad. I get they did it because they wanted to pad out the runtime, as the comic is short, but honestly it should have just been a double feature with another comic. I’d have liked Killing Joke paired with A Serious House On Serious Earth. They came out around the same time and both deal with the Bat/Joker relationship and Batman’s doubts of his own sanity. Or you could pair it with a Batgirl comic like her debut before the Killing Joke story, or Oracle Year One after. Killing Joke is a weird comic for Batgirl because it impacts her characters history the most, but she’s really more a footnote in the actual story.
The tl;dr is DC should just do double feature movies instead of padding out stories that are already self contained and well written.

god, it's one of the scenes of an animated movie I've jerked off the most, just thinking about this batgirl's body makes me so hard.

As a few other people have said its not in the Killing Joke comic. I went to watch the Killing Joke not this bullshit. For the rest of the movie It follows the book accurately. But you sit through 14(?) minutes of shitty Batgirl content that isnt even accurate to any comic canon.
    >oh but it adds to her character
    its not about Batgirl
    >but it gives Bruce motivation to go after the Joker
Its the fricking Joker. Him being outside is motivation enough for Batman.
    >You're overreacting
Yeah Probably. But I just don't like hiw they slid this in. It was really stupid

The sex scene was done to give Batgirl more presence in the story (lazy writing)
Her original role wasn't tasteful, but this isn't any better.

I honestly get more mad at her acting so pissy afterwards
    >Knows where Bruce lives so she can just drive up and ask why he didn't talk to her afterwards
    >Knows Bruce is distant so him not saying anything after vanishing isn't past him
    >Takes her frustration out on an innocent guy who at worst just raised his voice to his GF for just wanting some space
