>The leader/king charges first into the battle into a swarm of enemies alone before his troops

>The leader/king charges first into the battle into a swarm of enemies alone before his troops
>he still survives completely unscathed
Is this realistic? did this happen in real medieval battles?

    >Is this realistic?
In this context, I suppose it is. This is their last hope, they want to make it seem as desperate as it is (it is desperate), so that if Frodo is still alive, it may help him. But in this very situation, this is Aragorn showing his men he's willing to die fighting and follow this plan to the end, and those who followed him to the black gate agree to die with him.
However, if the goal is to win the battle and manage different units throughout a whole battlefield, then no, the leader needs to be some place safe where he can see the battle and/or be informed by various lieutenants and dispatches.

No, but then this is essentially a suicide move where the leaders tactical direction isn't required. It's just a morale move.

Sauron is nothing but a spikey headed autist wearing an edgy Morgoth cosplay. He could never hope to defeat a Chad like Aragorn.

That sequence was supposed to be him fighting Sauron himself but they painted over the actor with a CGI troll when they realized how fricking stupid that was

No, but in real life you win a war by winning a war and no king would just join his 7000 men to go commit mass suicide

It makes sense when that King is a Númenorian ubermensch.

The film in general had a lot of anachronistic elements. For instance, in reality orcs were a lot shorter back then.

No. Each, movie in the trilogy got more over the top Hollywood action style. To the detriment of the trilogy.

Caesar fought on the front lines during the Battle of Munda

      Anonymous

yeah, thats what he said...Not to say that caesar didn't have massive balls but I presume all these ancient generals fought surrounded by trusted bodyguards who were ready to protect them from every angle and drag them to safety if things started to look bad. Sometimes shit happened and arrow or some other projectile killed or wounded the leader.

Are you really going to argue that those are more famous than the King Harold Godwinson being killed in the Battle of Hastings?

Heck you could add Henry V who had beaten the French and was just about to take the French Crown only to die of Dysentery on the way.

It doesn't make sense that Kirk is always on the away team while being the Captain of the Enterprise, but the point is that it motivates the army/crew because they know they're fighting for a just cause

The films have their faults but most people can agree that they were made with great care, respect and affection by people who were invested in the source material. LAWD DEM RANGZ is not the same.

Some leaders did go into battle on the front line, but didn't do so at the expense of sensible tactics or with a complete disregard to their importance. Generally they were fully clad in armour and surrounded by the best troops in the army so were basically walking tanks. You could argue that although he's lightly armoured that it's all mithril chain so it would take a lot to kill him (ignoring the lack of helmet). He's also basically not only near superhuman, but probably the most skilled swordsmen of his kin.

A lone charge like that? Not likely. However he's going against a poorly disciplined, arrogant force and could possibly hold his own long enough for the rest of the men to catch up. Not to mention he has a Wizard on his side and most of the magic Gandalf uses involves lightly buffing people.

I don’t remember who it was but I remember in school reading about some king that during a battle heard his men screaming that he was dead and he immediately got up and took off his helmet to confirm he was alive, and that was apparently extremely dangerous since he could’ve been immediately killed by a rock to the dome or something.
