The Marvels

Holy fricking shit - it’s somehow worse than you frickers had me thinking. Disjointed and incoherent enough to almost be avant garde. Did this movie even have a director?

    >Did this movie even have a director?
Yeah and she wanted it to be a comedy, so Disney took it from here and crammed in the usual capeshit stuff and she disavowed the end result. It was a huge story over the fall.

She wanted it to be a comedy but Disney fricked it up by making it capeshit? That doesn’t make any sense. You have to roughly follow the pretense even if you are black and female. They don’t just wire you $250m and let you do whatever you feel like.

Spoony flying actually looks more realistic because he doesn't have a weird glow around him and the movement is more natural. The other one is bottom tier crop and paste effects with a zoom.

There's definitely a few but doesn't seem as saturated with poos as other productions, however the list is fricking enormous. It's got to be like 400 names long. How with all those people were they not able to find at least a handful able to do the job well?

Technically, but anything action based was second unit, and supposedly they helped with the CGI too. Keep in mind the director had only worked with CGI on Candyman, so they were completely unprepared for this. Marvel is used to that paradigm and have people on hand to teach directors 'their' way of handling these things. It's why all the Spider-man films looked so similar.
The Marvels is infuriating because it was so obviously shredded to pieces. Every good idea is wasted, nothing is developed, nothing matters.

Problems in order of most severe to least:
      1. The villain is boring and weak and shouldn't be a fite for Carol. All 3 heroes do a ton of fighting against mere soldiers.
      2. Her villain plot is not only a ripoff of Spaceballs, it just cannot work by the laws of physics. At all.
      3. The teevee cast of Ms Marvel is fully represented, AND THEY PERSIST THROUGH THE WHOLE FRICKING MOVIE.
      4. Carol's confrontation with the Supreme Intelligence is reduced to a 30 second flashback.
      5. Monica's whole neediness is pathetic for a grown professional woman. It's like she's 12.
      6. the Singing Planet is just fricking dumb and uninspired, If they were all weird looking energy aliens or something, maybe you could buy into it, but nope they are just Diversity Group in stupid costumes and hair.
      7. No one projects any enthusiasm for adventure except Ms. Marvel. Monica is travelling the galaxy and all she can do is grump about Aunt Carol leaving her Mom. All Carol can do is sulk because the Kree call her mean names.
      8. All the aliens look like shit except the Skrulls, who look like Skrulls. And apparently none of them remember they can shapeshift into shit that can run faster as their city is collapsing. Every other alien is super-diversity-stupid hair humans. Kree are supposed to be Blue or Pink, that's their racial schism. It's stupid when you have Azn blue Kree, Black blue Kree, Latino blue Kree....that's not how Hala works.

    >Directed by Nia DaCosta, “The Marvels” unites Larson’s heroine with two superpowered allies, Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau (introduced in the 2021 Disney+ series “WandaVision”) and Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan (first seen in the 2022 series “Ms. Marvel”). But instead of seamlessly building on the success of “Captain Marvel,” this move resulted in four weeks of reshoots to bring coherence to a tangled storyline.
    >Then eyebrows were raised again when DaCosta began working on another film while “The Marvels” was still in postproduction — the filmmaker moved to London earlier this year to begin prepping for her Tessa Thompson drama “Hedda.” (A representative for DaCosta declined to comment.)
    >“If you’re directing a $250 million movie, it’s kind of weird for the director to leave with a few months to go,” says a source familiar with the production.

    >Did this movie even have a director

    Well, partially.

yeah this is great. i'm sure the second disney started fricking around she was looking for her exit. they don't let you do anything with these movies. Raimi just got to sneak in a few shots basically.

The movie wasn't high art or anything and you can tell it went through some aggressive edits but it's the same level of ok to pretty good as all the other marvel movies which puts it head and shoulders above the slop DC and Sony put out in the same genre.

If no one is watching why are people talking about it? There are tons of movies that literally don't get threads made after they leave theaters, but this doesn't seem to be one of them.

nobody directs these movies really. they have someone on set to try to explain to the actors what the frick is going on, and then they sit in the editing bay and try to suggest things but disney has already taken care of it

        >nobody directs these movies really.
there's a very obvious distinction between quality and subsequent popularity of the Favreau, Branagh, et all movies compared to later diversity-directed movies.

          Anonymous

the distinction is when disney took control. Raimi was even only allowed to do a few things, he had no leeway. Favreau never had those issues, he got to do what he wanted. you can tell when disney took more of the reigns. the cinematography especially has become very indistinct.

Another big part of it is also the way yidsney made a bunch of streaming shows in the franchise, and heavily references those shows in its movies. i watched (pirated) the marvels and felt like half the plot made zero sense because I've never watched any of their streaming shows yet was expected to know who these people and their backstories were. it also had a terrible villain, so ugly and non-threatening, with so little presence or charisma, that I laughed whenever I saw her stupid face pop up on screen.

Exact same thing happened to comics. It’s gotten too interconnected for anyone new to make the time investment so all that’s left is slowly (lol) bleeding the few super fans they’ve managed to keep until now

My favorite part is how they resolved the crisis

    >Captain Marvel killed the AI that controls the Kree homeworld
    >Their sun dies, causing decades of suffering. This is the villain's motivation for revenge.
    >In the end, it took Captain Marvel 5 seconds to revive their Sun, she just never thought about it.
    >The idea was given in one sentence by the Black Magic Negress

Always the problem with women helmed action stuff. They have no idea how to write a big climax action scene. Its like in Twilight when the big mad fight scene at the end was revealed to be only a dream and a "this is what we totes wouldve done to you frickers." And its enough to scare the most powerful vamps in the world away. As if they wouldnt return to base and immediately start conspiring ways to eradicate them all. But a womans mind is incapable of comprehending consequences so she figures she told them off real good and thats the end of it. Who cares about fallout tee hee im a girl what does that even mean?

Who is writing those movies? This makes me nostalgic for Blankman.
