The ending would have been way more powerful if they dragged out how long they were in the car. They made it seem like they drove for like 45 minutes ffs. Show they were in the car for a week, breaking down, ran out of food and water, and committed suicide then. They way they made the scene short made it seem like it was an abrupt decision that didn't fit the tone of them fighting so hard to survive all this time before. I was just kind of like "oh. that's extremely sad in principle" when it happened but it didn't feel real or serious. Very poorly done on the director/writer or whoever.
How did the soldiers survive? It didnt seem to be a problem of whether you were armed or not, but whether you could react in time from the thing hidden in the mist until its in pouncing distance.
Yes but there's no guarantee that you would survive if you went with her. A single person can move faster and more quietly than a small group. More mistakes happen the more people you bring. One wrong turn or decision and then she and everyone becomes monster food.

It was decent up until the suicide -- after fighting so hard to flee the vax-cattle-like cult, only to Jonestown within, seemingly, hours of escape, made no sense. The "twist" kind of saved it... But, given it all happens in the last part of the third act, it leaves that lingering plot-hole... Kind of like Se7en and him opening "the box".

Second; the "twist" is the reason the ending sucked as much as it did. If they had just ended it after he shot them and he walked out into the mist then it would've been a bleak but decent ending. Having the military roll in for a dumb "gotcha" moment and having the woman who wandered off on her own survive completely deflates the whole movie and only serves to make you think "wow, it sucks to be that guy".
