It's irrelevant who plays capeshit roles. It's a brand, not the movie star.

The poster dude. It's just Spider-Man not pics of the actors. Compare it to Iron Man and how the actors themselves had more and more space within it while the title giving Iron Man was pushed further in the back.

He’s kind of correct Sony damn near fired Maguire over Maguire using back problems from filming Seabiscuit to get more money. To Sony, since SM covered in a mask they could get anyone. Why joke in SM2 where Peter going “my back, my back.”

Outside of the fact Tobey made that role and brought Peter Parker into the real world on screen, I tend to agree. and this:

Not accurate. Star power was everything back than. Why WB demanded a big star like Nicholson in the movie before they greenlit it. Same with Superman with Brando and Hackman

Yeah and the juggernaut of what Batman as a movie was is directly what lead to how modern blockbusters are marketed and merchandised. It all goes back to Batman.

3 was kino only blighted by Topher Grace’s performance. I wouldn’t want it to not exist. Still mad we never got 4 but as everyone knows 3 was rife with production frickery and Raimi checked out. Amazing Spider-Man was literally what we would have gotten but better, I know that’s not saying much but they had Doc Connors in there since the first movie, the lizard was coming.

        >they had Doc Connors in there since the first movie, the lizard was coming
I don't understand how he wasn't even considered as a possible villain for the 3rd film. With Harry basically being obligatory by that point, I don't see why they had such random picks for the second villain

Lizard was suppose to be main villain in 3. Sony demanded Venom who Raimi didn’t like. Sony realized they fricked up and why Lizard was in Amazing Spider Man

            >Lizard was suppose to be main villain in 3.
Source? My understanding is Raimi was going to do Sandman + Green Goblin 2 + Black Suit Spidey and then save Lizard for later and maybe never even bother with Venom because Raimi didn't like him. The symbiote sample was going to be what Connors used to make the shit that turned him into the Lizard while trying to grow his arm back.

From the start Sony demanded Venom
in SM3 so it’s impossible to know what a true Raimi SM3 would be. But since Connor had so much build up in SM2 it seemed like he would’ve been main baddie with Harry as second villain aka Hobgoblin

                >>sees the chaos and destruction and hopelessness around him
Hobgoblin is a whole different guy. Harry is the second Green Goblin.

The original plan for Spider-Man 3 was to have two villains
              >Sandman
              >Vulture
Vulture was cast as Ben Kingsley and if you google it, you can find storyboards and prototype costuming from the movie.

The premise was loosely that Vulture and Sandman were cell mates and escape from prison together. Sandman was still sympathetic whereas Vulture was the butthole and leader of the pair. Spider-Man would not wear the black suit, but he would've had a similar character arc of learning about the moral greys associated with these criminals and learning not to be so full of himself.
              >I'm the hero, they're the bad guy.
It was to be a lesson in humility.

Less is known about Harry role, but from the sound of it he would've spent much of the movie conflicted, before ultimately deciding to tag team with his friend like in the actual SM3 against the other two villains. Never himself becoming a full-on antagonist.

              Would've been kino.

Probably cut. From what I understand, she wasn't even supposed to be Gwen in the version that we got until very late in the game. Sort of like a studio exec going
                >That girl that he steals from Eddie, what if you make that Gwen Stacy?

would people also irrationally shit on MJ as the films were releasing?
so many people do that now but if you actually pay attention; she's mostly responding to the way peter treats her
other than being a damsel in distress shes not a very stereotypical heroine character writing-wise which is refreshing
any other cool things you know? or where to read up on this stuff?

                Anonymous

Not sure where to read up, it's pretty scattershot. Although the audio commentaries on the movies themselves have some good nuggets.

For me the most cursed one is the "Goblettes" which is an idea that an executive tried to push twice. Once for Spider-Man and once for Spider-Man 3 in which the Goblin character of each respective movie would have a harem of Goblin henchwomen that would accompany him in his battles with Spider-Man.

Agree with your take on MJ. She's a much more layered and smartly drawn character than people give her credit for in those movies. This scene in particular always strikes me for how she's somewhat toying with Peter and trying to get him to open up.

How many times can you retell the same story? Villain creates himself by accident, villain is really a good guy who fell under tragic circumstances, villain kills himself in the end, either on purpose or by accident. Mary Jane gets kidnapped, JJ hates Spider-Man. They would’ve had to seriously reinvent Spider-Man 4 if they didn’t want it to be just another generic superhero movie. This universe ran its course
