Barker directed the first movie. It was his decision to have Cenobites go after Kirsty even though she gave them Frank. And reason is simple. It’s been anticlimactic movie wise

It was his first time directing. He literally tried to get a book from library on how
to direct but it was checked out. Sure he felt had movie just ended after they killed Frank audiences felt it would be anticlimactic. Which he’s right. We wouldn’t have gotten that great scene of Pinhead rising above Kirsty telling her “we have such sights to show you.”

Making the Cenobites more antagonistic in the movie was the way to go (and superior to the book). The only problem with the ending is how silly it is Pinhead is standing there telling Kirsty to stop playing with the box instead of ripping her apart. It could've been staged and choregraphed better but I'm sure budget restrictions could've been a problem there.
Budget for sure. The part with Frank gets reanimated was added in post production after studio saw the movie, loved it abs gave Barker an extra mill to play with.
They aren't good guys though. The movies suck btw. All of them. The only good one is Deader.

What’s funny is why I think Barker hating Pinhead is his popularity was entirely by accident and he had little to do with it. All the lines had to go to him and female Cenobite because masks Chatter and Buttball had to wear didn’t allow them to talk. Now, they’d just be CGI and be able to talk. Add on Bradley’s performance, the make up, nickname Barker hater and marketing putting Pinhead on the cover.
I liked that lunger cenobite in the reboot.

dunno about the talk one, but i do know they could not see. that was specially so for the actor that played chatter. hence why they changed his face half way in the movie to give him eyes. butterbull had those glasses on most of the time, so that could have been used to hide the actors eyes.
