Good movie, the story is by the numbers action thriller, but Jackson and Spacey shines through, and even though it's a long film (2 hours and 14 minutes) I was never bored or dulled out. Recommend it to those looking for lesser known action films.

I watched a movie and recommended it on the film board, as I doubt many have watched it.
It's a known film, so a lot of people already seen it at least once.
I don't know about that, but maybe it's true.
holy frick what an incredible homosexual you are
This is actually one of the best Cinemaphile posts I've seen in years. We don't even have those movie collection infographics anymore
Did you know the 'twist' before watching it?
By "twist" you mean who the real culprit is? If so, no, I didn't know.
I meant that Spacey changes sides pretty early on.
I don't think that was a twist at all, he asked for him after all.
Trailer gives away that he's innocent and has a scene where they team up like superheroes. Decent movie but F. Gary Gary is a mediocre director and brought it down with his boring tv style.
I didn't watch the trailer, but I think it was pretty obvious that he was innocent considering he arrived AFTER his friend was murdered.
>mediocre
If he can churn out decent movies that don't reach greatness that just means he's a good director.
It's decent in spite of his assy UPN-level direction. The scene where he tells them to shoot him was supposed to be an epic scene with him on the ledge in the rain and in the movie he just leans out a window on a mild work night and stands there ten seconds while the camera sits there.
I can see your point, it seems you're versed in the movie business, so these type of things stick out more to you than it does the average viewer (me).
Don't sass me. I've touched bewbs irl.
The Nigotiator
better than anything released today, thats for sure
Yeah, I don't regularly watch current movies anymore. I don't think a movie like this would have been spared a few lines about race if it was released today.
Ever seen Lethal Weapon?
Watched it. Sequels aren't that good, even if the chemistry between the two main actors is there in all of them.
2 is the best and I'm tired of pretending it's not. Patsy Kensit 1989 was way hotter than Kylie at her peak.
>2 is the best
That's a bold statement, but maybe I need to re-watch the two movies back-to-back to see your point, though I remember the second one being lighter in tone than the first movie
2's way darker with the police murders and the gf's fate. It seems lighter because they fricked up Riggs and turned his depression into wacky characterization and have him acting like the Three Stooges in the middle of gunfights.
They turned more into action comedies as the series progressed.
Joe Pesci alone makes parts 3 & 4 hard to take seriously.
>Joe Pesci alone makes parts 3 & 4 hard to take seriously.
Yeah, he was a real joke punching bag in the series.
lesser known action films thread?
Could be, if you watched something you want to talk about but know it won't reach +50 replies if you make a separate thread then this could be a thread for you.
This one is a solid popcorn flix
Why'd that SWAT captain have such a hard on for killing him but he wasn't even a part of the bad guys?
Yeah, that was a real twist if you asked me, you could say he was "by the book" cop who just wanted to finish the job before it escalated any further even if it means killing a colleague of his.
He thought Danny was a dirty cop and cop killer and wanted to light him up. Plus he's SWAT which makes him an aggressive meathead anyway.
It's Samuel L Jackson being Samuel L Jackson for 2 hours. Doesn't get any better than that.
Kevin Spacey is a very one dimensional actor. Every single role is exactly the same. I don't appreciate him at all.
You know, I was gonna call you crazy, but I went and checked his imdb and honestly, through the movies I have seen with him, he always plays cool headed and calm characters, but that doesn't mean he doesn't kill it with his performances.
That goes for most kino actors though
Denzel, gosling, russel, jackson etc.
Ironically, one kino actor that has a huge range is cruise
>kino actor that has a huge range
I think we should add Nic Cage to the list, whilst it's true he starred in some really bad movies, you could see the range the man's got if you check out his stuff from a portfolio that spans decades.
Not so sure if I agree with Cage
I’ll give you that he has played a lot of different characters, some better than others, but they all share the same dramatic physical expressionesque acting. I think Carrey is a better example for this, even though they share a lot of similar traits
Among the better Die Hard clones for sure.
>Die Hard clones
Eh, Die Hard takes place in the whole tower, the Negotiator is mostly set on one floor.
So? Passenger 57 starts in a plane and then, for a moment, takes the action to an amusement park. It's still considered part of the Die Hard-genre.
>Die Hard-genre.
Care to elaborate?
MC goes to a place, place gets surrounded/taken over by bad guys. MC fights them after realizing he's trapped with no way out.
It was a time when the term "Die Hard in X" was a thing with movies set in an enclosed environment. From planes (Con Air), buses (Speed) and ships (Speed 2, Under Siege), stuff like that. Kinda miss those fads tbh.
>Kinda miss those fads tbh.
They were fun movies, they had that survival aspect to them, where the MC has to scavenge for items to survive.
I see, I don't think you see that much with current movies other than everybody wanting to do shared universes. I guess that got to do with the fact that not many movies have a lasting impact or are influential in any way.
I liked the part where Spacey kicked the door open, walked in the room and said "Its negotiatin' time"
Extremely based and negotiatorpilled. I really hope this bad boy gets a 4k restoration.
>4k restoration.
That would be really cool to get, but I don't think studios want to touch anything that got to do with Spacey for the foreseeable future unless all the drama around him is forgotten.
Watched this last night. Great thriller with a good cast and a surprise ending that I did not expect at all
Speaking of 90s thrillers, I remember this one movie where Samuel L. Jackson got himself into a minor fender bender with Ben Affleck and it triggered chain reactions of events with them trying to ruin each other's lives because of it. I forgot its name unfortunately but I remember the premise because of the wackiness of it.
Changing Lanes
It was ok
I felt like the ending kinda dragged but otherwise agreed. Pretty good thriller for something that lacks the over the top action that was kind of demanded at the time.
