The Devil actually existed, and wrote a book hundreds of years ago? Kino. Peak 90s comfy, too. Speak up if you thought this movie rocked.

>megapints up for this classic.
The soundtrack is awesome.
This is your feel when the occult becomes more than just words on a page
Not my personal favorite but it's good.
Am I right in thinking there's nudity in this?
I remember rewatching it a bunch as a teen but don't remember the plot.
yes that demon b***h gets her breasts out at the end and the black haired occult lady i think you can see some side boob
Were they good breasts?
yes quite pleasing
singular film
I loved it. Please recommend more like it, OP
Angel Heart is kinda similar
>Angel Heart is kinda similar
‘Dark Angel’ the novel on which ‘Angel Heart is based, had the whole plot centered in NY City.
For dome reason, the movie switched significant sections of the plot to New Orleans, despite filming some scenes in and around NY City, do I doubt the issue was budgetary.
other Polanski films
If you liked this, you would probably like Eyes Wide Shut.
The real trip about this story is that the Book was about Depps initiation
His character, or the real life Depp? Is Johnny Depp a free mason, or Illuminati?
Yes, both Johnny and Amber are Illuminati. Tons of photos of them doing the one-eye sign. That whole trial was a distraction, also look into Johnny Depp's link to Damien Echols of the West Memphis 3 and where that leads.
>His character, or the real life Depp?
both
DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNN
I read the novel and since all adaptations are hot garbage, I am never watching this movie.
The movie is better than club dumbass.
Punctuation, anon. Maybe you're calling me a dumbass, maybe you're a phoneposter who got fricked by his autocorrect.
>The movie is better than club dumbass.
The movie has major changes in theme and plot to the book.
yeah and they were good changes in my opinion. I think the whole book was too much to adapt into a single film well.
Does he get a witch bodyguard gf in the book too?
You sound like a fricking idiot
You sound like a jerk.
Your opinions are irrelevant you moronic fricking homosexual.
>do I fit in yet?
You sure don't reddit Black person. Despite how much you've fricked this board, you tourists still stand out.
Kubrick's The Shining is better than King's
Feel free to cope and seethe

saw in the theatre, always loved it.
This scene every time.
Was she *the* devil, or merely an imp to the dark lord?
>in any case, how did he do it?
she was lucifer
She was The prostitute or something from the Bible
That and Corso's guardian angel? Also remember something about The prostitute of Babylon too. Been a long time.
prostitute of Babylon
I watched this last week. Very comfy, really great aesthetic, Depp is sexy af. Plot is a little hokey but who gives a frick. I cringed everytime people would smoke or do other dumb shit right next to this priceless book though, I don't know if that was a conscious decision or not, but the characters really did not practice appropriate rare/old book handling techniques.
have a nice day gay c**t.
That's just poor direction, really.
>I cringed everytime people would smoke or do other dumb shit right next to this priceless book though, I don't know if that was a conscious decision or not, but the characters really did not practice appropriate rare/old book handling techniques.
This was my biggest issue with the movie. Nobody who preserves invaluable works of literature would allow people to smoke near them. Secondly these heathens were handling the pages with their bare fingers and getting oils and dirt all over them. Where's the fricking gloves? The demon chick's breasts were nice though.
Bullshit.
I worked in an archive and nobody wears gloves.
Do you lug around priceless books in tote bags packed with other shit and flick cigarette ash on the pages?
Usually, yeah. Along with pieces of Native American weapons and other bullshit.
Are you this guy?
Damn. I miss the history channel.
>invaluable works of literature

I used to go to antique and specialty book dealers with my parents when I was a kid, and antique dealers as well, and at least a quarter to a third of the dealers smoked like fricking chimneys.
Modern handling and conservation practices have gotten better over the years, but with certain collections and archivists, you still get a certain laissez-faire attitude.
Add in the fact that a lot of antique dealers, including book dealers are not overly wealthy, the facilities they work out of art sometimes not great.
Bauman Rare books(as referenced on Pawn Stars) is sort of an exception, since it was started by an old couple who collected books and presumably had money before they started a rare book dealership.
Incidentally, Bauman at one point bought a bunch of rare books stolen from the University of Pennsylvania library including a 1611 copy of ‘Hamlet’.
Usually the poorer dealers who have worked their way up in the business would have known to check anything like this that came in against known copies.(and then turn the books back over for purchase cost plus a slight commission from the insurance company)
I saw this movie in theaters with friends and nobody else liked it but me. I even bought the stupid DVD.
Why is the DVD stupid if you like it?
Doesn't have any special features.
It has the movie you liked. That's enough for you.
It really isn't.
Welcome to threads where there is little-to-no controversy or shit to b***h about. This is what happens when anons are in general agreement about something. Responses are generally cordial nods in agreement until something relatively minor to b***h about is discovered, like whether or not a DVD is stupid if it lacks special features (it is).
>DVD lacks special features
Shit. I hope some behind the scenes stuff is out there. I love watching how movies are made.
Spare the homosexual brackets reddit Black person.
go troll somewhere else, loser
Don't post like a tumblr whale

Why didn’t they tell him about the missing page?
They were servants of the unholy one sent to test Corso. This movie intrigues me. Did the devil know the future? Was the book invented with Corso in mind? What did Corso see at the end?
I love the art style of the illustrations in the movie.
Read the book.
I need to find out how exactly I can look like Johnny Depp in this movie. Same clothes, same haircut, same glasses, same public persona of reading old books
The glasses are uncomfortable as frick.
Don’t buy them.
Lurk Cinemaphile for four years
all those homosexuals do is make ya and booktuber threads
For the glasses, the Garrett Leight "Wilson" in Bourbon-Tortoise should get you pretty close
>I need to find out how exactly I can look like Johnny Depp in this movie
the van dyck beard
Based art appreciator.
the movie is unironically bad.
agreed it is not just bad it's boring... goofy plot is fine but the sheer length and tedium. didn't realise it was so well received/cult following
Cinemaphile is the only place that likes this movie
The opinion of a reddit Black person tourist means less than nothing.
We just like the movie.
Worst Polanski movie, by far.
Gayest comment in this thread, by far.
Just saw it a few months ago for the second time and it was just as good as the first time I watched it.
this movie is 6.7 on Imdb and its kinda long should i watch this?
Form your own opinions, homosexual
shut the frick up gayboi
>boi
spotter the 90s born queer
Yes, the plot may not be entirely satisfying but it's pretty fun with great tone/atmosphere. Very dark academia.
honestly the movie was way better than the book for once. the book is a slog to get through but that might partially be from it being translated into english from the original spain spanish
You’re an idiot.
have you read the book?
Yeah. Cervantes is twice the writer Polanski wishes he was.
I hate it when the show is normal but then ghesrs thisbtrans person and all the characters are fine with it even when obviously some of them - even probably the main character ' they don't even notice lmao.
Like they are still weird no matter how enlightened you are. But the characters in the show aren't cooked enough to be qeirded out

This movie is fricking dogshit and I swear it's just one guy who's forcing this movie on this board. Every fricking time in comfy movies threads this dog shit gets posted and samegayged multiple times. It's trash.
Shouldn't you be off sucking mouse wiener?
movie felt amateurishly made, even for 1999

She is the prostitute of Babylon and Johhny Depp (Corso) is the Devil who is trapped on earth without memory of his true nature. He wrote the books to enable him to regain his true form and power.
