This is one thing that I found weird about the show,not sure if I am missing something or if the writers didn't think about it - I had never a feeling that the cold is any issue for them
book did it a lot better. Men are walking around in arctic winter with their heads exposed and seem fine. It's only -16c in sweden where I live right now and I prefer a warm hat

Because they are well fed, very well isolated by good clothes and know that they go out only for a while and they'll quickly come back to their 20+ celscius home.
Meanwhile Terror/Erebus crews were underfed and were stationed in the ship which probably was like 10 celsius most of the time.
but still, there are some scenes where Crozier and the rest are standing on deck with bare heads and fingerless gloves. or in the last episodes when Hickeys mutineers walk around in shirt and vest only. granted I do not know the temperature of king william land in the spring and they were hauling heavy boats so maybe it makes sense

I loved Drax but otherwise it felt like a much weaker show than the Terror
That said I don't know why I put it off for so long, it was definitely worth watching

The show never made it believable that it was cold. It always looked like a set with fake ice.
Its dry cold up there. The one thing the show lacked was foggy breath. You can feel warm at -20c as long as the sun is out. The breath always gives the cold away
