    I couldn't stand it.
It wasn't stylized enough to get a pass and not realistic enough to keep me drawn in.

    It was awful

Genetically the represent a very old lineage.
Their closest modern populations are Europeans.

There used to be more genetic diversity in Europe. The difference between a Brit and an Anatolian was greater than a Brit and a Chinese today.
The oldest Europeans had chinky, slitty eyes.

I hate mediocre capeshit movies and this movie was simply not great. You homos are inflating this shit because it's not capeshit, but not being capeshit doesn't automatically make something good.

        Anonymous

no. i think it's a genuinely good film. it's a solid revenge story. i like that it's simple and still has the style and vision of Robert Eggers. i think it achieves exactly what it wants to achieve. just because you dislike doesn't mean people can't like it other it not being a marvel

OK so you don't have a concrete reason the movie is good. Your reason for liking the movie is just "I liked it." That's fine but not really substantive.
I felt this was a weak movie. The acting was weak. The dialogue was dry and unmemorable. The mystical elements somehow simultaneously drove too much of the plot and had too little payoff. The pacing was bad with three shaman scenes and a lot of padding to fill the lean story. The romance was the most forced shit ever with zero chemistry. The final fight was really stupid. Horribly choreographed with Amleth struggling against a 50 year old man and both of them swinging at each others' swords. It was not a good movie.
The Lighthouse was kino and it was about two fricks stuck on a rock. This was a slog. The elements were not there and did not mesh.

i'm not not saying it's the most perfect film in ever made or that it's egger's best. i'm saying i liked it.

lot of the criticisms you giving are just you saying something is weak without giving concrete reasons as to how.

i thought the acting was good i didn't think it was weak.

i could agree that the dialouge is weaker compared to the witch or lighthouse. it would have been cooler if it was more period accurate but i don't think that makes the film awful.

i liked the romance. i thought chemistry worked and added to Skarsgard's character. without it there's a drama within the narrative and gives the character less choice towards the end of the film

i thought the final fight was really good. the

the mystical elements where really good because it shows you how people perceived life within the period they were in. i don't think it was literal. i thought it added to the movie.

The point of the scene is that it's just two men fighting to the death in the dirt. i don't think it needs to be the most amazingly choreographed scene in the world. it conveys what it needs to convey

i thought a lot of the things you listed were good. I'm sorry I liked a film you personally disliked. it's ok to agree to disagree. people just have different opinions

not arthouse enough for the thinking crowd and not bing bing wahoo enough for the action crowd, the autistic details don't matter when the wooden dialogue and performances are there, also I found the casting to be really bad

This. I thought the casting was fine though. Apparently the director had to make a few big artistic compromises for it to be made. I assume he had to make it easier to follow and make the main character less of a barbarian for mainstream appeal.

      >not arthouse enough for the thinking crowd and not bing bing wahoo enough for the action crowd
I disagree with the rest of your post but you're 100% on the money here. I loved the film, but the divide between "arthouse films" and "popular" films seems to be at an all time high, at least of the last 50 years. If the exact same movie had been made in the 80s it would have been a smash hit. Movies that sit in that middleground between artsy and action are great and very underrepresented these days, I hope we see more of them soon.

because everyone has already seen a dozen versions of hamlet, so stripping hamlet down to its barest parts, and adding nothing interesting, wasn't the best way to approach revitalizing hamlet.

I'd bet the average person these days has never seen hamlet let alone more then one version. If it wasn't shown to them in school they probably haven't seen it.

        Anonymous

saying something like that is just outing you as being a fricking moron. hamlet is such a basic/fundamental story that literally everyone has seen it a dozen times without realizing it. this is the problem with trying to go back to the roots of fiction, without taking effort to understand why the story has worked so many times.
