They're actually good. They're on a level with other classic sci-fi and the whole setting just makes so much more sense with Tomino's infodumps. You even kind of learn why he makes female characters say really weird dialogue.

Because they're women?
There's a decent few spots where Tomino explains why a woman said something as a line not too dissimilar from "because of her womanly nature."
I wish more of his novels had been translated besides 0079, Hathaway and Gaia Gear.
Beltorchika's is. As is F91
Is the F91 one any good?
I've desperately wanted to see his non-Gundam novels translated for years
I really dig those designs but why are they just standing in space?
Any idea what they're about? I didn't know he wrote any non-Gundam books.
bumpin fer info.
i for one would really, really like to the Victory novelizations translated. anyone know how they differ from the series besides the Second V?
That trilogy is called "The King's Heart". Found this translation for book 1 ("The Book of the Dead") in the archive
>It is an age in which Mother Earth has begun to perish. King Zealand de Grand has settled hundreds of years of internal strife in a single generation. The people extoll the king's exploits and wait eagerly for the realization of the "The Legendary Ascension" that will bring salvation to all the country's patriots. However, when King Grand is assassinated in a mysterious plot, a disturbing air fills the land. Who will succeed the throne? Furthermore, what is Aura Energy, the source of The Legendary Ascension? The tragedy of the royal family begins here, and the deceased King Grand is at the will of an unseen god.
Apparently there are no robots.
Just design choice
one of these days that little dude on 1 is going to make a cameo in a Build as a ground-type ball
It's what I was imagining, or petit mobile suits, when the translation says "mechamen" were all over the hangar, but I realized that was a strange word the translator used for mechanic.
Call me crazy but the art looks inspired by the War in the Pocket designs. Char's Zaku II is looking awfully similar to the FZ.
see
My guess is these covers were illustrated around the time 0080 came out
yeah iirc that USA release of the novels was early 90s?
pretty sure it was the first official localization in America
so yeah that would put it near the period they were attempting to revamp the OYW to use the 0080-style designs
>I didn't know he wrote any non-Gundam books.
Tomino was a pretty prolific author of genrefic back in the '80s and '90s. A lot of it tied into his anime stuff, like how he wrote a load of books around the Byston Well setting, and a series of LNs about Banjo Haran that have basically nothing to do with Daitarn 3, where he's a private detective based out of an artificial islet in the Tokyo Bay. But there are also some wholly standalone ones in there, like the King's Heart books, and a sci-fi trilogy called Look for Avenir
Is that art by Yoshitaka Amano? Looks like his style.
Seems so

There seem to be illustrations in the books as well, but I've seen no pictures.
>his style
You mean the style he copied from Michael Whelan
that's not even close, artlet
Always been curious about Look for Avenir myself.
>Gai Gear
>F91
where?
Zeonic. 'nuff said. We'll see it, never.
>Patreon Exclusive
>Tier Exclusive
grim
Eventually they do go public. Probably a few months after he finishes a volume. That's how Hathaway and Beltorchika worked at least.
Sometimes. My people have been waiting for the Flag of Titans manga for generations.
Why would anyone care about that POS version? The novel is the story, not some idiotic sidequest comic that doesn't tie into the plot at all. that's probably why he hasn't focused on it. I want the novel anyway
Frick off back to Twitter shano.png
Is that the Alex?
It's a jank illustration of the RX78, although, in the novel it doesn't mention Gundam's parade colors, the first one just seems to be red and the G3 he gets after the original gets trashed fighting Lalah is dark grey for camouflage in space.
What about Tomino's Dunbine novels?
No robots. The Wings of Rean OVA were basically a what-if sequel to the "Dunbine" novel (Wings of Rean).
This cover rules.
The ship on book 2 looks like the Gray Phantom
Char's Zaku FZ?
Dozzle Zavi and his Vig Zam is cool, but not as cool as Sha and his Zak
Who would win in a fight? Rik Dom? or 4 Bowls?
Is the implication here that newtypes actually physically move at superhuman speeds?
yes amuro has the speed force
That explains why Lalah was able to transcend time, she had a treadmill at the back of the Elmeth
Are you illiterate? It's obviously stating that he has fast reflexes.
Also, is Highstreamer translated?
