We have a rule. We never free a mind once it's reached a certain age. It's dangerous. The mind has trouble letting go. Morpheus says this in the movie.

That's not the problem. The problem is as you age you realize that every day going forward your body will be falling apart bit by bit until you die. The only logical conclusion is to enjoy this day today because tomorrow will be shittier, and that's true every day when you're old.

Meanwhile this is completely undone in later films when they apecify that some people will just unconsciously reject the matrix and others will accept it, which also meant that even if the machines put joey-pants back in he'd still be fricked.

      >Young people make changes for the better
is that why you see them moping about "it" being "over" and being born in "le wrong timeline"?
      >Old people hate changes for the better
Older people are change-averse, because not all changes are for the better (as we're seen with wokeness and the troony social hysteria).
Don't get me wrong, millennials are gays too, but you are not a fully-formed responsible social creature until your late-20s/early-30s.
I had a nightmare a couple of months ago where all boomers and genxers are dead, and Auron Macintyre of all people tells me it's my turn to hold the world on my shoulders as he disappears into the light. I turn around and see a mob of zoomers with xanny stares looking at me for guidance, and, being a millennial, I have nothing to say to them.

When you really think of it the humans were the ones that fricked up their own planet because they felt AI was becoming too sentimental. The machines were nice enough to implant their minds into a prosperous and stable civilization while they ruled over a world completely destroyed by them.

By their point of view they have a better moral argument to bring

      Anonymous

Niceness had nothing to do with it. The machines original attempt to harvest human energy was horrific Clive Barker tier body horror experimentation where humans were treated like factory farm chickens fused with machines that were constantly torturing them to elicit physical reactions. This only stopped because it wasn't sustainable and was killing the humans too quickly. Thats when they tried the utopia Matrix to keep them fat, happy, and living as long as possible. But as Agent Smith explains in the movie, that had its own problems and they settled on an imperfect but realistic recreation of the 90s as the goldilocks zone for harvesting humans. At no point did the machines give a single flying frick what the humans thought about any of this and they certainly weren't factoring nicety into their decision making.

i think its mostly inspired by zen but the main thesis of the 'simulacra' book that is referenced in the movie and that they had the cast read, is that fake things only serve to trick you into thinking that the other things are 'not fake'. but they are. disneyland fake plants tricks you into thinking that plants outside disneyland are real but they too are just symbols projected by your mind over essenceless foam

(so there's no difference if you're being tricked by one or the other 'reality', in the movie. Did you notice c**ts in the 'real world' still had to feed their bodies, toil in some frickin role lol)

I don't think cavemen needed to see a potted plant to have some conception of what a tree is, even if not in that language

        Anonymous

        >not in that language
There's no humans without language, and once you have language, it's over. The word for a tree is a symbol and as soon as you have it now you live in the world of the symbols instead of the things (simulation). The things in themselves don't exist as they're taken to be by the symbol. The word 'tree' is the disneyland tree that makes you think there's such thing as a real tree

I thought the Wachowskis openly acknowledged this with the ending being "people who WANT out get to leave" but the Matrix itself persisting, implying most wouldn't actually choose to leave the comforting illusion. Most writers end that trilogy with the Matrix being destroyed .

Wanting to go back to a state of ignorance is understandable. Being willing to betray your own comrades to an inhuman entity is an entirely different thing. No matter how bad he thinks he has it it's just a bed that he made himself. If you're really the type that would doom everyone around you due to the mistakes you made yourself then you're the worst kind of selfish butthole.

Morpheus misled. As Cypher said, had he told the truth nobody would have took that fricking pill. Morpheus lied by omission. Add to the fact you have to be some background runt while your boss looks for the golden child. You eat slop, do your job, and no fricking respect. At least in the matrix you have distractions.

Maybe you wouldn't have betrayed your friends, but I don't think you'd like being in Cyphers shoes one bit. And for the record, I'd betray them. They didn't care about Cypher.

He is taking a big chance with an butthole like Smith. Smith legit hates humans and he has gone rogue a while ago. There is no guarantee he’s gonna honor their agreement or if he’s even ran this whole deal up the chain.

But… at this point Cypher is so sick of it he just wants to fricking die and give Morpheus, the crew and effectively his whole life the middle finger. Because if he doesn’t want to remember anything, and he specifically says that, that means he’s committing suicide.

Some compelling character shit right here. Rest of the crew’s motivations run on faith and love but Cypher is the only character truly layered and complicated to the point you have to stop and think for a second about his motives.

Smith wasn't rogue by that point, at least not enough for Cypher or anyone else to realize.
He may also not want memories of his old life because he feels some remorse for what he's about to do, not just hate.

The older I get, the more I like fricking negresses. This isn't a race mixing thing, I've had my kids and no more. It's a "pretty Black person women have expectations that are so low that you can do any goddamded thing you want" ... and still be the good guy. It's hilarious, the worst momets of my life are like highlight reels for these women. Sure, I trained them to drink my piss and smile, I'm still the only person in their lives that isn't a finacial burden or emotional vampire. Seriously, ask ANY black woman, they are so sick of supporting everyone and not getting any consideration backnthat they'll do just about anything if treated marginally well.

To be honest, life as a rebel doesn't sound too bad. Sure, there's the inherent risk involved in fighting the machines, but they use the simulation technology themselves for R&R as well as training; sounds like you get many of the benefits of the Matrix system with a much greater degree of scenario control. The Machines would have me be x/y/z drone, but as a rebel, though they might send sentinels looking for me, I can plug in, frick a simulation of Christina Hendricks, enjoy simulated caviar, do some race car driving - what's the issue?
