That art piece doesn't really do him justice, he looks way better in animation.
But also, yeah, damn good Robin. I like how he's already been on the job for a few years now and you can see the cracks forming in his relationship with Batman, which will eventually lead to his splitting off to become Nightwing.

I know, the picture sucks, but it was the only HD one I had and yeah, I remember seeing this Robin as a kid, and watching Sub-Zero (my favourite animated Batman movie) and playing Batman Forever (the SNES game which seemingly modelled their Robin on this one for some reason) and actually thinking Robin was cool and badass. It wasn’t until I grew up and saw all of the other terrible adaptations of Robin that made me realize why no one liked him

Same. BtAS Robin was cool unlike almost every iteration.

His characterization as a younger brother to Bruce instead of a son really helped that

Yeah, Robin as a defacto son doesn’t work, the brother dynamic works a lot better as they actually feel like real partners, not a father bossing his son around into playing dress up and beat people up at 2am

Timm and Dini really didn't want to use Robin, as they were still hung up by his portrayal in the 60s TV show. They compromised by having him be away at college most of the time and using him sparingly. Unfortunately, the Fox executives demanded more Robin for toy sales, which led to the retooling to "Adventures of Batman & Robin".

AoB&R was kino though, wasn’t it? My knowledge is a little hazy, but wasn’t that just the retitled BTaS featuring more Robin, or does it also include the dreadful later seasons with the Young Justice shit or whatever

            >AoB&R was kino though, wasn’t it?
It was more middle-of-the-road, but it had some good gems like "A Bullet for Bullock".

I’m confused then because apparently i’ve been convoluting BTaS with AoB&R, I thought it was all the same thing

They are the same thing, it's essentially the second season. The only real difference is the change of intro.
New Adventures, now that's a different show. Same continuity, but the massive art style change speaks for itself.

                >Same continuity
I argue it's not. TNBA and the rest of the DCAU ironically ignores B:TAS. Even in TNBA itself, the only plotlines that carried over were those for Mr. Freeze and Clayface.

There's also Ventriloquist, who successfully put down Scarface for good by 'killing' him himself. The only other times in the DCAU Scarface reappears, it's during a dream sequence or an alternate world.

That's every Ventriloquist episode. It seems like he's finally pulling himself together, but the next episode (or sometimes even the ending of the current one) always has him relapse.

I mean it, though. Scarface may have been destroyed before, but never by Wesker himself. He's well and truly gone.

It never lasts. It's all a matter of when a writer decides to use him again.

Scarface is heavily implied to be some sort of spirit being or malicious consciousness or whatever. Maybe he's a tulpa Wesker made that became too powerful. Point being Scarface is possibly, very likely, one of the truly paranormal Batman rogues.

I don't know anything about either of these shows but why does the 1992-1995 Poison Ivy look so different from 1992-1995 Catwoman and Batgirl?

Because before they decided to get cheap with designs, Timm and Dini tried to have unique bodytypes for everybody.

You can't be telling me that Riddler looks good in that art style.
Croc and Penguin came off best, I think. Batgirl isn't so bad either, the black and yellow works for her.
Absolutely hate what they did to Catwoman though.

Scarecrow is literally the only one that's an upgrade. In fact, it's more of a sidegrade than an upgrade. Every one else is meh(Robin/Nightwing, Joker, Ivy) to terrible (Penguin, Catwoman) to homosexual(Riddler). And I'll forever be a yellow ellipse chad.

You can tell how much TNBA cheaped out because the female characters in silhouette are all exactly the same body. Also there's less detail overall on the costumes and the colors are simpler.

Hopefully they use this in the Battinson Films, which admittedly i don’t like, but i’m interested in their portrayal of Robin, although he’ll probably just end up being a race swapped abomination with a terrible costume, i hope not though.
Out of curiosity, what would my fellow anons hope to see?

I dug the Tim Drake Robin design in Arkham. I also like Damian's. Robins look good with hoods. And Bat Family members should have a cowl of some sort. Domino masks just don't cut it.

Bruce and Dick were basically considered more brothers than father/son in the 60's-late 80's. Granted the show does show Bruce adopting and raising him early..but Bruce isn't exactly a healthy father figure.
The whole concept of Batman and Robin is basically a man frozen in a traumatic moment in his childhood and his friend.

In the late 80s DC commissioned a bunch of artists to design a new costume for Robin. Warner was planning on introducing Dick Grayson in Batman Returns and DC was in the process of introducing Tim Drake in the comics and they wanted a suit that would work for both. This is the design Neal Adams came up with.
In the end Dick didn't appear in Batman Returns but they still used the costume for Tim, and it became the default modern costume ever since.

Only in Batman the Animated Series and The Adventures of Batman and Robin. Everything in the New Batman Adventures and on was mid.

    But also Teen Titans.
    And the comics.
And Teen Titans Go is pretty funny.
And that one season of The Batman where Mark Hamill voices his dad.
And the few appearances he had in Batman: Brave and the Bold.

Actually there are a lot of great Robin appearances, Anon. What's wrong with you?

and Bruce isn’t? That’s why I like Batman and Gotham being set in the mid 20th century, it justifies the silly costumes without it being a detriment to the world building, they also need to bring the Blimps back

Should have just done what they did in the comics, stick Dick in the Nightwing costume and have a younger Tim running around as Robin. Then you can double the toy sales.

They all have their pros and cons but Tim embodies that role better than anyone else. There is no Nightwing/Red Hood evolution, he's what a sidekick needs to be.

Which still filled mostly the same niche. Nightwing focused on Bludhaven and Jason focused on being the Punisher with his Outlaw gang.
Damian Wayne on the other hand was never even a particularly good Batman, just an extra challenge for Bruce to take care of while patrolling the streets.

Jason started off as a wannabe crook and he helped give Bruce insight into how criminals operate from a different perspective. It's a "keep your friends close, your enemies closer" sort of advantage that was lost in time. He also failed to protect him but that's obvious.
