Meh, I wouldn't call this "good," more just "passable."
The actual animation quality is pretty shit, I'd say it's about on par with a low-tier seasonal isekai anime.

Low tier seasonal anime's quality has been surprisingly increasing their quality recently. This show would actually be slightly below today's seasonal slop.

I don't even like One Piece and even I think you'd have to be moronic to try and pretend that this show has better animation than it.
The amount of animation errors alone in a show that's only got 10 episodes is pretty egregious.

Yeah the animation and freeze-framey backgrounds are my biggest gripes with the show. Literally just having background characters do simple stuff like blink or move slightly on occasion would automatically improve a ton of otherwise awkward-looking scenes

It might LOOK good, but it sure don't move good. There are times it's more static than actual anime. It ends up being kind of ugly when you actually watch it because of how little motion there is or how few frames they use for movement and it ends up feeling choppy.

Cause it was actually good? I went into it expecting very little, since it was a modern reboot of a 90s show I liked, and was CG besides, but it was surprisingly engaging, had a fantastic OP, and the animation was unexpectedly expressive with the way it blended 2D effects on 3D models. The action sequences in the last couple episodes were also fantastic.

Here's the reality. Anime-inspired stuff has been around since the 70s when companies were working with studios like Toei for animation.
The real problem is fandom culture. The people making these things today have a fundamental issue where they can't take inspiration without having to say
      >LOOK FELLOW WEEBS! A MAGICAL GIRL TRANSFORMATION
      >HEHE! ISN'T THIS LIKE DRAGON BALL GUYS!
This is literally what Miyazaki was complaining about when he called anime a mistake, his extended comments on the matter was that anime was being made to appeal to otaku culture, becoming a feedback loop of it, and that everything was basically just becoming the same stupid tropes and cliches with the exploration of characters' humanity often having to take a backseat to fulfill their designated trope.

Miyazaki saw literally all of it coming.

Literally no there wasn't. Collaborations with Japanese studios are not "anime inspired" western works, you fricking pseud.

Fine then, the 90s. Little Mermaid in particular had an explicit anime inspiration for the Ariel which lent to her expression. Don't get me started on Akira and Sailor Moon's influence especially into the early 2000s.

            Anonymous

These "influences" are so nebulous that unless you dig into it you won't even realize they're there. It's nothing as overt as what we see in this show, which wears its anime inspiration on its sleeve.

              Anonymous

That is literally the point anon. A lot of those 2000s shows had clear shounen inspiration but didn't use it to carry themselves.
The 2000s was when people started acting like "anime" was some separate category from all other animation even if the Japanese themselves don't see it that way and the 2010s was when there were all these desperate attempts to not simply make something anime inspired but have non-Japanese shows marketed as "anime" which basically just meant "action cartoon with more detail on the eyes" at that point

                >A lot of those 2000s shows had clear shounen inspiration
No, they didn't. These influences were NEVER apparent to anybody but the super hardcore nerds that had to research the hell out of the shows to prove the influence even existed.

lol no, not even close. We just used to call it something else, it was only that the term 'anime' didn't really catch on until the 2000s. Prior to that we called it Japanimation, but it was ALWAYS seen as different and discrete from what the west produced.

I just catch up today, the writing is just too bland and boring, every character depending so much on Lois instead of being a real team is so boring to watch.

The writers for this self-inserted as Lois and want to frick Superman, I guess it's better than when writers hate the main character of a franchise, but I feel that if you are not a woman you don't get to really connect with the show, there're a lot of scenes of the characters talking their feelings in the most detailed and unnecessary way, multiple shots contrasting Lois tiny body and shape with the MASSIVE chadness of Clark so girls can water their mouth imagining Clark handled them by their waist, etc.

I think it's interesting that they specifically say our Lois is the loser of all good Lois's. Adds that she's not some great character, and she's already behind the curb.

Look Cavill is good looking and gets women and I don't personally know him so I can't attest for his personality but he has a lot of traits that a lot of nerds do.

But despite of his good looks he comes off as your average awkward dork, and it's especially noticeable when he's in a room with your average vapid Hollywood lizards, especially when something nerdy that he likes is brought up and he will fixate on it in a way that they'll make fun of him for it. It makes sense when you consider that he used to be a lonely fat kid that got bullied.

He also might be a little autistic.

He agreed to do the witcher even though he's totally inappropriate for the role because he really likes the games and even read the books, and then quit the project when the moron femoids in the writers room kept trying to make him do sex scenes and totally ignored the actual elements of the setting to tell their own awful story about progressivist nonsense. They went on to call him a chud and an butthole, and they are correct: Cavill is gigabased, and literally me.

yes the other problem is that their comics don't look at all like their cartoons, even if the women in their comics look like middle aged traced stock photos, I don't remember an example of them even trying to animate them like that, instead they look like simplified drawings that have forgotten that curves exist. This creates a discontinuity. A thing that doesn't happen with anime and manga that try to mantain the style of the source

Unironically, yes. I watch way more anime than I do western cartoons these days, and this show nails the aesthetic and tone of an anime better than any western imitation-anime I've seen before. The one aspect in which it still feels very western though is the action, but that is to its benefit.

I tend to drop anything truly execrable or boring. Anything I bother to finish has some sort of merit to it. In the first place, you don't get to watching this much animation if you're some easily satisfied pleb who only thinks in pedestrian terms like "good" or "bad", I value very specific things in the shows I watch. Some of my favorite anime are the really low budget ones that are deeply flawed in extremely interesting ways. They're often way more fun to talk about than a by-the-numbers battle manga adaptation or the ten-millionth school romcom, or the latest dregs of Shousetsuka Ni Narou turned into a phoned in anime.

I don't really have a social life to speak of. I mostly just watch anime and cartoons, play a little bit of vidya now and then, and read some books. Anime is my main hobby, you could say, I set aside time to keep up with my seasonals, and also occasionally rewatch stuff I enjoyed, or watch an older show from my backlog, if it's a slow week due to episodes getting delayed for some reason or another. There's also the dead weeks between seasons, where hardly anything airs, which I fill with backlog stuff mostly.

Also, it's not really that much time if you spread it out around the week, just a couple hours each night. Though anime don't air evenly throughout the week, obviously, so I pick and choose which shows I save for later.

                >Also, it's not really that much time if you spread it out around the week,
yeah 28 anime is pretty doable, is less than 2 hours a week of stuff, it's more the aspect of just caring about 28 shows, and the fact that watching them one after another might become a bit like a chore

Tan is not a race, gaygatron. When asked about Lois's ethnicity, the writers just said "korean", of all things, presumably due to the voice actress being korean. She's got dark skin because of anime memes, not to turn lois into a Black person.

        Anonymous

Nah, I see what I mean, a huge issue is that their relationship here is based way too much on this "cute awkward adorkable" vibe with lots of blushing and awkwardness. It feels particularly weird on Lois's end because she's usually pretty damn confident.
We're talking about a relationship that usually works because it's slow burned in with building trust and playful flirtations.

Not "will they, won't they" but for as much as the show says they're 23, they're clearly written based around tropes that were designed for 13-15 year old shounen protags.
This whole "pause, blush and stutter" thing is something even more socially awkward people grow out of by 17

                Anonymous

You're talking about romcom movies which center around characters who are typically socially awkward walking into a romance, usually centered around them getting together to begin with.
This is a show centered around two characters who have basically already gotten together making the relationship work and they're worried about things like "telling her I like her" and other awkwardness that is typically expected of someone new to love.

                Anonymous

Again, any romcom at all? Those are not exactly known for the mental maturity of the characters involved. That's not what the general.audience wants. Realism is overrated.

            >The writing shows and explains rather well how and why this version of Clark fell in love with this version of Lois
Not that anon but it really doesn't, this Lois is a very selfish, entitled brat even by the standards of how some versions of Lois can be. They introduce more and more major character flaws and try to balance it out by having her blush when she accidentally touches Clark and it all feels very unnatural and weak.

No one wanted a magical girl version of Superman with Voltrons overrated, anime aping aesthetic, and no one wanted any of this uwu, cute bubbly relationship drama with mediocre action bullshit.
The only reason you like this show is because you saw Lois and your porn addled brain immediately equated that to quality because you have no standards. I don't give a flying frick if you crank your wank to any of the other characters, that only further proves my point. Delicious rage

People obviously like the show considering there are consistent threads about it here and people obviously do want "gay relationship drama" considering what shows are/have been popular recently, and it's way better than they are anyway. The show isn't some amazing masterpiece but it's leagues better than any other cartoon on right now, which is all anyone has ever said about it

Nobody gives a frick about your extremely autistic standards or criticisms, and nobody cares about your imaginary strawmen you seem very adept at inventing

The "muh coomers" bullshit is just that, because this board revolves almost entirely around waifuhomosexualry and coomer shit. If that's so offensive to you then you wouldn't browse this board. Almost every post about almost every show, regardless of quality, is coombait

This same exact thing is true for Cinemaphile and half the other boards on this entire website and this has been the case for many, many years, and yet you pretend like it isn't

in most cases pre production (including character design and storyboards) is done before VA or even animation studios are picked out. They decided to change the the race and core design THEN picked the VA.
Also, US raised Asians and White voices don't differ enough to most ears to matter, they could have had a asiatic voice her and still been faithful to the original design

The character doesn't look Korean though, is the thing. They made a generic anime tan tomboy. The fact that she looks like she does but when asked about her race they just went with Korean suggests that race wasn't even a factor in her visual design. Not that they're aren't progressivists among them of course, Jimmy being black is obviously just brazen diversity pandering.

That's an edit of her leaked early design with lighter skin

wasn't trying to imply that it was the original, though I can see how it could be read as such, I was posting it as a example of what could have been

      Korean Lois VS Arab Lois

When I first saw this character, I thought she was from Euraka 7.

It's an Amerianime. It's pretty darn good in terms of anime-like atheistic, almost moe tier level. It took Amerimutts 20 fricking years to finally do anime properly. Now remove the dykes, israelites, Black folk, Tumblrinas, & SJWs from the industry & it would be at least 3x better.

    Short or long hair?

      Medium
Earth-1 or something Lois did have hair like

in most cases pre production (including character design and storyboards) is done before VA or even animation studios are picked out. They decided to change the the race and core design THEN picked the VA.
Also, US raised Asians and White voices don't differ enough to most ears to matter, they could have had a asiatic voice her and still been faithful to the original design

This is an issue of company politics, nothing else

so it won't happen to main Lois sadly

There isn't a single woman on this planet that looks good with short hair that would not look even better with long hair.

I generally prefer short hair but in this case, long hair because the design they went with in this show looks like a generic twitter OC

Have to agree. Gave it a chance but decided to drop it completely after Episode 5. My Adventure With Superman isn't bad per se but it was incredibly mediocre.

I'd rather just watch good anime instead of a mediocre Supes show made by literal tumblr people

Looks cringe as shit. I can't stand all the good old American cartoons turning into the corny art style that is anime. And I completely agree with you its only because of the Anime lovers (incels)

This show feels like the main audience is people who consume more fanfiction of media than the media itself
Same feeling I get from those Wayne Family Adventures comics
