>the black community is failing because... of said institutions the black community has no inherently corrupt or amoral people just good people in a bad situation

no wonder redditors onions out at this show

Stringer and Marlo were inherently corrupt and if you wrote a black character like Marlo in today's Hollywood you would be canceled and deported to Siberia.

Yes, it was a different time, but the message it's trying to push is still a liberal lie

Okay chuddie. Move to Russia if it bothers you that much.

What? The message was very clearly:
        >greed/corruption from the top to bottom is horrible for civilization

I don't see how you could take any other lesson away unless you're a fricking moron.

I'd say another facet of the message is that people contribute to their own systems of oppression out of greed and predatory self interest. This is especially true of the black community.

I've watched it 4 times. Boiling it down to one sentence is stupid and reductive. You are the one who's claiming it's black and white, the show makes no hard and fast moral prescriptions. It's about systems, almost no one except Marlo is actually trying to be evil in the system they exist in, they just try and play the cards they've been dealt to varying degrees of success.

You know you can be corrupt but still accomplish some good right? I think your understanding of good-evil is too simplistic for a show of this caliber. Maybe stick to Euphoria or 6 Feet under
                >homosexual

Yeah I watched 5 seasons of a show because I liked the pretty pictured I didn't really get any of the plot or themes. You're deliberately misreading my post to argue against your original point, you can stop replying any time now miniscule cuckold.

Greed and corruption are civilization enders. Baltimore is a lesson in that. I cannot fathom how such a basic theme is lost on someone. Unless you're moronic.....

                >Randall is put up for adoption because of greed
                >Duquan becomes an addict because of greed
                >Sherrod dies because of greed
There is so much in this show that has nothing to do with greed. If you think the systems shown in the show are failing because of greed you unironically did not understand it whatsoever. A case could be made that self interest is at play in most of the issues shown but conflating that with greed is stupid and not particularly interesting. You might as well say the civilization ending issue shown is gluttony because everyone gets up and has breakfast before the events of their day.

                >durr how does drug dealing (greed) and corruption at all levels cause X
                So....moronic. Got it.

You're just not very bright. You're working backwards from a conclusion and grasping at straws to justify it. There are several degrees of separation between the drug trade and a lot of the issues shown on the show. There are more directly causal influences shown throughout like in the examples I mentioned. You also aren't even effectively making your own point, you could compare the "greed" of the dealers if that's what you want to call it with the "greed" of the police trying to advance their own careers but you're drawing this arbitrary line in the sand where black person drug dealer trying to get ahead = greedy and white person police/politician trying to get ahead = corruption. It's a fundamental misreading of the show and the juxtapositions it presents to explicitly compare the legal and illegal systems at play.

I'd argue Clay Davis is the true villain of the show, if it has one. Or Templeton. There are psychopaths dotted around in every institution, a lot of the show is dedicated to showing how they prosper.

marlo is the only one who could be considered truly evil. he kills people, as brodie put it, just to do it
like the security guard, he had no business reason to kill that one

everyone else is just doing what they are to further their own interest and/or to survive, either literally of professionally/financially
and ofc there are varying degrees of how psychopathic, how willing they are to harm others for their own benefit

burell, rawls, the council president lady, stringer, levi and many others, they're pretty ruthless when it comes to hurting others for their own interest
but none of them are doing it for fun, just to do it, like marlo is

and then you have some more conscientious people who are still willing participants of the system, like rhonda or the judge. the too will do the wrong thing, or at least not do the right thing, in order to protect or advance themselves.

even the "heroes" of the show are not 100% good, they're not mary sues
mcnulty himself says it right out near the end of s01, it wasn't about barksdale or about the murders, it was about proving how smart he was and his ego
and in s05, it was about being pissed and sticking it to the bosses and his ego again

What the frick are you talking about you histrionic homosexual? You can make a prequel about young Gus' gay escapades in Chile and homosexuals like you and the critics would eat that shit up.

Everything is fricked. And as someone who grew up in Baltimore, I concur. That city just needs to be knocked down. All of its problems are so deeply woven into it at this point there is no saving it even with the best plan executed perfectly. Most of Maryland honestly. People always seem to think of Chicago or New Jersey when it comes to corruption and such, but fricking Maryland is absurd.

And the gangs and drug dealers are all happy with the crime and murder

You realize it was a black pill for smart people
