The real reason almost all shows and movies nowadays are made for women is that woman in and of itself is an audience.

The real reason almost all shows and movies nowadays are made for women is that woman in and of itself is an audience. Men a lot more niche and therefore present a much smaller market base. It's why there's now much less variety in types of shows and movies than there used to be. It's also the same reason almost all music is made for blacks now.

If you make something for women, then why would I watch? Can you answer that one?

Lol. That's very true. I wish you meant personality-wise, but the population is literally getting darker.

Be honest, how many women have niche interests which do not specifically aim at them? When you look at something totally genderless like RC planes and drones, it is mostly men, for example. Women and minorities get upset that they have no "representation", but why do they need "representation"? Remember Wesley Crusher and young Anakin Skywalker? White boys hated them, they didn't want to be, dare I say it, pandered to, it is fricking cringe. Yet for some reason women and minorities lap it up. They can't just enjoy something as it is, they need a self-insert or someone to make a social statement about mansplaining or whatever, or they get upset.

Now consider the situation from a studio or video game company. Look at OP's chart. You are going to profit by making things pink. Even if something is yellow, it helps to add pink. You have a niche hobby or piece of literature that 0.1% of the population enjoy, but if you can make it appeal to even 1% of the general population, you increase profits tenfold. So all of a sudden Cao Cao from Romance of the Three Kingdoms has to be transfolk of color.

Look at you, Cinemaphile anons merely states the facts about this and you spend countless hours on Cinemaphile crying about it.

Because there's nothing else. Better to appeal to 50% of the population and hope some others will watch rather than 5% of the market base and hope for the best.

It's because women are less willing to watch most movie genres but are half the market and gatekeep for children and have more free time on account of working less hours, if they even work at all, so they can give their attention to media companies for longer.

Men are busy, and flexible in their taste for movies, and give money to their women to spend for the household.

    its worse that that.
you see, before people had more niche tastes, some people liked other shit that was trendy on the region the lived, but social networks appeared, and now instead of some different trends happening here and there, you just have one big trend happening every week, sometimes just days, and most people know about it.
this is what influences the creativiy and what is created with creativity; everyone is getting the same shit and are being influenced mostly the same, and when they start the creative process, they have the same ideas because they had been exposed to the same stuff.
    how to fight this?
not really possible, it's all fricked up, because the content that you are described is what's gonna feed the creativity of the next ones, and it has even less variations than before.

Bo Burnham of all people made a good point that generational gaps used to be over the span of multiple years, usually a decade or more, but now they happen within the span of 6 months. You could roughly relate to the people you grew up with who are ages removed from you on either side, because you were likely watching the same shows, listening to the same music, going to the same school with the same teachers and friends, etc. Now it seems that pop culture moments happen so quickly that if you weren't watching skibidi toilet in the latter half of 2023, you missed out and all of those kids that were part of that are not you.

        Exaggerated point made by midwits.
I'm a zoomer nearing my mid 20s now, I relate to people born in the early 90s & late 80s and have friends who are 17.
With all those I've had similar childhoods to and watched the same shows as them (spongebob, courage the cowardly dog and more) when they were shown as reruns when I was a kid.
On top of that I've had a lot of shared experiences with shit like flash animations, games, internet trends, social media hoaxes and more.
Your entire perception of the real world is filtered through the hugbox Twitter zeitgeist that blindly repeats opinions that they think make them sound smart.
In reality we are all identical, the only difference between generations is the dominant subcultures within it. The only reason think this dichotomy changes so fast is because the internet is now able to shine more of a spotlight on obscure subcultures and sometimes they're propelled to relevance.

And as for your Skibidi toilet point, I know people in their 20s who watch skibidi toilet unironically as wild as that sounds, so it's not a gen A thing and its not like its something exclusive to them.

It’s hard to gauge realistically though. Because men notoriously lie about their favourite movies and tv shows, I’m not saying they don’t enjoy those things. But the carefully curated their top 4 movies to show what great taste they have to other men. But women are honest about the slop they like and that’s why Harry Potter is the number 1 movie for them.

Kino used to be made for niche male audiences, and women would watch it to have something to talk to men about.
No one is going to watch modern movies just to be able to talk to a woman. Even incels won't lower themselves that far.
Men aren't choosing to watch anything, so there's nothing for women to watch in hopes of ingratiating themselves with a guy they like.
The whole industry will collapse soon.

          >They all have different hobbies, expertises and fascinations
95% of all women I've ever met were exactly the same despite having different races and backgrounds. women are emotionally and intellectually simplistic creatures that exist to breed, rear, and relate to children, thus they simply can't develop the complexity and variety of taste and aesthetic that adult men can.

I remember reading once somewhere that the largest group in America that was spending their disposable income was Hispanic women between the ages of 25 and 45. I believe it completely, and I think it's painted every single issue with the media today

    >There's probably way more of them than any of us realize
    >There is a 99% chance she is a working mom and the breadwinner of her home so she is making a lot of the financial decisions along with the child rearing
    >They have a lot of kids by the time they're in their mid-30s meaning there is a lot of children in that house who drive where the money goes
    >Little Benicio is absolutely going to get every single goddamn Marvel superhero or Minecraft backpack, water bottle, video game, action figure, or whatever the hell he wants so he can show it off to his friends and because his mommy can't say no to her little man
    >Any girls in the house are going to be treated like princesses and drowning in Disney, dolls, clothing, etc.
    >A lot of their kids are iPad kids who get a monthly allowance of Robux and shit like that
    >Hispanic women have the most basic taste in everything with no depth: their favorite music is whatever is popular, their favorite movies are whatever has a big budget and celebrities they can recognize, their favorite TV shows are whatever is big on Netflix, they actually use things like the TikTok shops and Temu, they don't buy their books at bookstores but instead those trashy book sections at places like Walmart, they actually shop at places like Walmart regularly, they're the reason daytime TV and soap operas still exist, etc
    >If they are politically motivated, it's almost exclusively for things like women's rights or POC representation but pretty much nothing else

All of American Media for probably the last 15 years has been driven by the pocketbook of Hispanic women. Once I thought about it then all of it kind of made sense

      Anonymous

So what you're saying is white people are a useless leech race? Make sense as I've been living on gibbs for ages now

        Anonymous

No but if that's what you want to take from it sure. I was just saying that if you follow the money, it's the Hispanic moms who are the ones buying up all of the Disney shit, keeping people like Jennifer Aniston employed, etc. I think they are much bigger drivers of American media culture than people realize

My wife has the most basic fricking taste for everything. She loves her 2000s era pop, club music, and emo. She watches whatever's popular on Netflix or Max. She doesn't like to go to the movies but will spend over 2 hours on TikTok or Instagram. Books are always historical fiction about women, video games are just stuff on her phone, she doesn't really watch YouTube or any internet personality, and the only celebrities she likes are the big names. I would say that she's extremely basic and probably the average for a lot of white women in America. She struggles to "get it" when I put on an episode of Red Dwarf or recommend we watch some new movie she's never heard of, because she's just not wired that way. And I'm not saying most mass media has not always been made for the middleman, it clearly has. I guess I'm just adding input and saying that anyone who denies there was a very clear disconnect between media made for men immediately for women is somebody who is living under a rock. And also that maybe that "average viewer" has shifted more female over the last few years

It used to be that different times of day had different programming aimed at specific audiences. I know that during the day the moms were home, so they showed more daytime programming and soap operas; when the kids got home after school, then it was children's programming; then it was family programming at night, followed by the more serious adult shows in the later hours and all of the weird pervert stuff in the Twilight hours. I would say with streaming none of that happens anymore, because people can watch whatever they want whenever they want. And I would think that because of this, maybe the streaming companies have realized that the largest market is basically no longer time dependent and it's just whoever is watching stuff on their device all of the time. If you ask me, I would say that's probably three big groups: kids, teenagers, and women. I think that's what's now driving our programming and it's no longer about trying to have something for everyone but rather just get the maximum amount of people watching your service with stuff that the maximum amount of people would want to spend time watching. And if those people tend to be younger and female, there you go
