Just finished the last episode of this fricking kino show. Holy shit, what a ride.
It's exactly as Cinemaphile said: every season was better than the last, and every season was high tension, well written, and masterful. I was always on edge wondering how Vic and the Strike Team would get out, right up until the very end. Those last few episodes I kept rooting so hard for Shane and Mara to make it out alive, and when they revealed their fates, I just felt helpless. I really hurt for Vic.
Even though Vic is a crooked cop it was impossible not to root for him. You wanted him to succeed, and he always did. Even the finale couldn't pin him down, though I think leaving with his gun tucked into his belt was too ambiguous. Where does he go next? What does he do? Does he violate his immunity agreement just to get back on the streets? Join the drug game?
My most hated character by far was John Kavanaugh. I've never been more angry and disgusted by a character, ever. It felt like he was always the only one who could really give Vic Mackey a good run, up until the beginning of season 6 when he starts planting evidence and ruins it for himself.
I want to start this whole series over again, right from the very beginning. The ending of episode 1 sets up the remainder of the series flawlessly. What a stellar show.

Is it that good?
Give it just one episode. Just the first. If the setup and ending doesn't suck you right in, I don't know what to tell you. It's a show I couldn't stop thinking about at work, at school, driving home. I just wanted to know what happened next all the time.
I'll give it a shot tomorrow when I wake up.
The first three episodes suck. Then some gay shit happens.
>Then some gay shit happens.
bro this caught me so off gaurd. Like why do this to ass invader. he was cool before this happened.... 🙁
>this scene
It's the first thing that comes to mind when someone brings up The Shield all these years later.
humiliation ritual
PREVIOUSLY ON THE SHIELD
NTA, but yah, it is
It's easily the most tense show I have ever seen, the last season is simply soul crushing.
the season 5-7 payoff is so worth some of the filler shit and characters they give up on
being able to watch it multiple episodes back to back really makes it a better experience, but the ending payoff seasons are basically non-stop captivation and tension
only if you're brown. the ending is obvious from the first episode. so its just watching shitty people frick each other over for 88 episodes until they finally decide to end it the only way it could end.
Idiotic take. Maybe in retrospect. Back then it was like: season 1 is a show about badass corrupt cops that get results. A but more hardcore than usual, but still in the same ballpark as all cop shows before. Then from season 2 on its: this is how corrupt cops like this would slowly implode and turn on each other. It broke open the paradigm.
Theres a few things I felt were a stretch like putting the entire Kavanaugh case based on Lem taking those drugs and not putting them in evidence for whatever moronic reason, either way the way Vic handled his problems is the most alpha character in tv history, that moment when he is looking for Lem's Killer (guardo) and he just walks into the mexican fricking gang hive and has the most moronic Hispanic with a gun to his face laughing
yeah but it gets waaayy better as the seasons go on so its not until S5 where it truly becomes a masterpiece imo
Yes. It has probably the best finale to a show I've ever seen. Worth every second.
yes. Only show that maintains same quality throughout
>every season was better than the last,
I don't know if I'd go THAT far.
I can't think of any season not immediately topped by the next one.
>season 1 topped by season 2's money train
>season 2 topped by season 3's Mara and Margos
>season 3 topped by season 4's Antwon Mitchell and fricking captain Rawlings who deserved better
>season 4 topped by season 5's KAVANAUGH and Lem's murder
>season 5 topped by season 6's noose tightening around Shane's neck
>season 6 topped by all of season 7
I guess the only season weak enough to be considered not topping the predecessor is season 3, but come on. The Margos arc was hype.
I already knew the ending and some of the best scenes and that was why I wanted to watch it. I think it's better that way
What did Dutch mean by this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUE2vYkCNA8
I hated Vic and wanted him to get just desserts. He screwed over my boy what's his name and that is unforgivable.
>He screwed over my boy what's his name
Gonna need to be a little more specific with that one, considering Vic screwed over everyone and that's why he's utterly alone at the end of the series
Ronnie?
yeah, that's his name
that one was especially tragic since he backstabbed Ronnie to get a deal for his wife, but he didnt realize his wife cut a deal already for witness protection
Ronnie deserved better. But we all knew as soon as Vic saw immunity with his name on it he was going to be forced to take it to stay alive, knowingly damning Ronnie in the process. And even knowing that it's STILL hard not to root for Vic to come out on top all the time. I for sure never wanted to see him caught. I could have watched his antics roughing up street bangers and dodging IAD, other cops, and criminals for at least another season. No matter how ugly or how much of a thug they made Vic, I couldn't hate him. I could only ever hate what other people did to try to stop him, i.e., Kavanaugh. But not Lem or Shane. Even though Shane made so many stupid damn mistakes, Vic still cared about him. It was so hard watching them implode together.
You're not the only good.
Poor Ronnie
Autism?
Characters too morally abhorrent to give a shit about any of it.
That's sopranos. There are plenty of good characters in this, like gay black cop and lem
Dutch is by far my favourite detective. All his plotlines are entertaining and being partners with Billings was kino
motherfricker caught like 4 serial killers in 7 seasons
>Dutch is by far my favourite detective.
I am and always will be still mad
Dutch is a homosexual
me in the window
why did they have andre 3000 in this for 2 episodes 4 years apart?
im on season 4. its starting kinda slow for me. doesn't have me as hooked as s3
this show taught me that you can successfully ungay yourself
based quads of truth. Julian's depiction is the one time I've seen a story like that presented in an honest way that's not trying to promote one agenda or the other. There's a part of him that's clearly sexually unsatisfied/frustrated by the end, but he ultimately seems much better off by denying that part of himself when all things are considered.
that is definitely one of the details that makes it bolder than any other drama
it was like being raped watching it but the way Aceveda had to cover it up and go after the guy after was intense af, nothing like the scene where Juan threatens him in the interrogation room and Aceveda narrowly avoids everyone finding out the truth
The Shield > The Wire
It's not a competition, they're completely different series
it's not a competition because we know chernobyl is better than both
Vic might be my favorite tv character ever, next to Tony Soprano. Especially when he acts alone and isn't restrained by Lem or one of the others. I'd love a sequel to The Shield that only deals with Vic's shit from the moment the original show ends. How he gets back in the midst of it and takes back the streets, searches for his kids and so on. Only more ruthless and brutal than before. I'd actually pay money for that.
here's the sequel:
>vic goes back out on the street, violates his deal, and spends the rest of his life in prison, which isn't a long time, because of the amount of people he put there.
It's a tv show, you can write it however you want. The deal could be altered, or Vic got some people who look out for him / force him to work for them and so on. Come on this isn't complicated.
>you can write it however you want
yeah sure you could write it so aliens come and fix all of vic's crimes/mistakes allowing him to be a corrupt cop again, on his own, with alien protection, and also grow a foot so he's not such a ridiculous manlet acting tough.
but then you compromise the narrative.
>but then you compromise the narrative
I don't really care about that, I just want more Vic Mackey in action. Plus I'm curious what's next in store for him.
>and also grow a foot so he's not such a ridiculous manlet acting tough
That makes it more fun though 😀
you got 88 episodes of stake-less nonsense and plot armor... and you want more....
I could watch 100 more episodes of this fat frick running
?si=NuS9H02Qc8nBeaBa&t=14
That was the moment I fell in love with this show.
>stake less
consider how much Vic lost and is responsible for, his family completely, responsible for the death of his best friend wife and kid, his other best friends life aswell, and then he had to send Ronnie straight to prison his final regret. The stakes were there and present the entire time
Best show of all television shows after Twin Peaks. Why did you hate Kavanaugh so much? During season 5 and 6 I was definitely rooting against him (because like you said, it's impossible to not root for Vic), but once he was locked up I felt bad for him. He actually tried to do the right thing constantly without compromising, and when that proved to not work he tried to use Vic's own game against him, unsuccessfully. I was still rooting for Vic, but felt bad for Kavanaugh.
>inb4 everyone starts arguing about The Shield being better than The Wire (it is) and the chess scene gets posted
JUST ANOTHER DAYYYYYYYYYY
>steel drum starts playing
DAYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Kavanagh was pure pathos. Felt like a true antagonist
It took me two tries to get into this show. I got a few episodes in and the show seemed to be justifying Vic's behavior especially after what he did in the first episode. It's like they kept saying "well at least he's not like this criminal" and it pissed me off.
Gave it another chance and the further along you go you start to see the house of cards fall apart. The drama comes from the fact that everything could blow up at any moment.
I'm usually good with villains as main character shows but this one took some time.
>black guy disappears after getting into a car accident
>shows up 3 seasons later
>says he knows Shane is lying
>leaves
>impacts nothing
It has a dip in quality once Glen Close shows up, but thankfully gets over it soon and the ending is purest, purest Kino. My favorites are seasons 2 and 3 though.
I liked Glenn Close cause she serves as the stand in for the viewer that knows Vic and the Strike Team is dirty but still believes they are the most effective cops and that they are better off with them, the seizures part was cool too even if it immediately seemed like it destroyed communities (built on drugs) but regardless
>even the finale couldn't pin him down
i think the point is that vic would rather put himself and others at risk or face death rather than live a "normal" life. vic "leaves" because he always has and always will, regardless of circumstances.
>Vic: nice wiener, dutchgay!
>the barn collapses in laughter
>kills your cat
?si=oEW498hgA5Yp_hT-
Dutch is the only version of his type of cop that I actually find completely likable and entertaining, his counterpart in other shows like law and order just aren't as flawed to make them fun to watch
>that anticipation to the opening music
Uh..
>What other errands do you have us running for the DA?
Bottom text
>say Jerry, you know of any armenians that like to party when I come down to the city?
i always stop watching before the end of season 5
you know why
rewatching shane's downfall is the worst part
it went over my head that one of the producers on this show worked on Hill Street Blues
no wonder this show is kino
SPOOKSTREET
