The show started to loose the plot in season 5 but holy smokes do I despise season 7 and 8. I just dont think there is anything valuable about 7 and 8. They basically ruin all characters, the world doesnt react to events realistically anymore, everybody becomes stupid and we just teleport around the continent like its nothing plus so much more.

They are the antithesis of what I liked GOT in the first place for. So yeah nothing is sometimes better than anything.

The show runners wanted it to be over as soon as possible because the only reason they did the show was because they wanted to adapt the red wedding. HBO begged them to do ten seasons. HBO should have just made Miguel Sapochnik/David Nutter/Jack Bender/whoever the show runners and let those idiots go.

          Anonymous

It's weird because it's not like the show was a 1 to 1 adaptation of the books and the show original scenes were still good so they clearly knew how to write their own stuff without having to rely on GRRM. But they suddenly stopped caring after a while. I don't think either of them had done anything of note before this show so it easily could have lived without them.

            Anonymous

At the very least they could have sweet talked GRRM into writing again. I think even he knows he's never going to finish the books at this point, so I can't understand why HBO just let them tank it.

              Anonymous

The funny thing is I'm pretty sure the only reason he finished ADWD is because of the show and that one was shit compared to the first four books so having him write two more books after that was already a big ask.

I wish I could. But D&D made it so we can't have a reboot of GOT for the next 20 years and went on to have a 200 million dollar contract with Netflix to produce Three Body Problem. I can never forgive or forget as long as they are still failing upwards.

It's just how these cycles happen. When something shitty is adapted aka GOT, it takes about 20 years, after some prequels and spin offs, for a reboot finally get green light. The X-Men series is a good example.

I feel like reboots are happening a lot faster these days, look how fast they rebooted Superman, and Harry Potter. If there's demand for it they'll do it sooner, but right now HOTD has them covered. That said I don't think there's much point to rebooting GOT when the books are still not finished. If they ever have a new ending to work off then maybe.

This was also the show that had two armies start running at each other at different times and meet exactly in the middle of the field in the Battle of the Bastards so the battles making no sense from a tactical perspective wasn't exactly a new thing.

It's been a half decade and I still can't get over that the climatic enemy that was hyped up for 8 seasons was defeated by a teleporting midget in a way that was physically impossible (night king surrounded by wights and white walkers, no way the little b***h could have gotten through them and then into the empty area where the night king was so she could jump at him)
then she does The Last Jedi move, or maybe that ripped this off, don't know or care, both are dogshit

for me, its the fact they put trebuchets in front line, outside the walls, and did not fire them a single time. not once. I can handle it not quite living up to my expectations. they kinda ruined the white walkers from the start by making them le frozen zombies and not.....fricking ice aliens? i got no idea but theyre weird as hell in the book. I was expecting there to be an epic off-screen battle at the wall, one you only hear dark stories of as the last of the nights watch flees down south. I was expecting an absolutely cataclysmic and world-shattering fight when the white walkers appeared, something waged across the entire north for like half a season before winterfell falls, then the whole north falls and they have to retreat and make their final stand at kings landing. the final battle. the last of the kingdoms of westeros under one banner. but god fricking DAMN I was not expecting it to all be rushed into like one episode, holy shit. I guess he was a side quest not the final boss

It's the utterly nihilistic ending. There was no point to Dany's arc, no point to Jon's Lineage or rising to power in the North, and we're all supposed to suspend our belief that Lord's would ever somehow VOTE an autistic cripple child into power for no fricking reason.

That fat homosexual will never finish writing, because it was the true ending, everyone rightfully knows its anticlimactic dogshit, and he's hiding now.

People didn't exactly vote for Joffrey to become king either, I feel like that's consistent with the fact that it's still the few making choices for the many and at least for once it's someone who has Westeros' best interests at heart.

Coincidentally also where the books started to suck, A Clash of Kings was my favorite because it was 90% Tyrion going around being awesome, then he gets fricked over and turned really pitiful in A Storm of Swords, and the series never recovered from it.

Don't worry, for his part Sanderson has said that he would not be willing to finish Game of Thrones. Apparently he could barely finish the first book because he found it offensive to his religion. Meanwhile, Martin has said that he does not want anyone else to finish the series, so unless he changes his mind at the last minute, what will probably happen is something along the lines of Unfinished Tales that summarizes his plans for the remainder of the series.

I liked Mistborn and way of kings but those books are not very well written compared to a song of ice and fire. They don't use language like George does. I don't want anyone to finish them but George, better they remain the way they are honestly.

reading the books you get the feeling GRRM has pulled out too many strands of the story that he doesn't really know how to tie them all together. I can see how the show fell apart at the end because of this.

They ended up having to cut out a bunch of shit from the later books too like Lady Stoneheart (Catelyn Stark revived from the dead). A Feast for Crows is especially bad about constantly introducing new characters and making you wonder "Where the frick is he going with this?" and unsurprisingly they cut most of them from the show. Characters like Arianne Martell or Victarion Greyjoy who were POV characters in the books and do not even exist in the show.
I will say that while I like Catelyn, keeping her dead meant that Beric got to say alive for most of the show so that was a worthwhile trade.
