yes but in this case, it was actually replaced with a different joke, so it wasn't a cut for commercial time issue. possibly for the episode running too long.
In the older days most stations would just show commercials between the programs, even interrupting for ads. I wish they would have stuck with this, would have been a lot harder to trim out more and more content for a few more ad pennies
I remember stations removing jokes in syndication. There was a joke where a badger essentially ripped Homer's chest open in detailed gore that would be removed for commercial time. I was thankful for that edit
I remember this scene from when i was a kid in Australia. They must of included it in here. I had no idea who Richard Simmons was at the time, but it was still funny to me
Based on what I've seen, the vast majority of deleted Simpsons scenes were the right call. Robot Richard Simmons is funny but it's over the top and unrelated to the rest of the episode, and I would argue that "Do your worst!" *shuts door* "He shut the door!!" is much funnier.
A lot of scenes were removed for more commercial time. Some jokes were seen as more expendable than others.

The locked door joke is a fraction of the length, point still stands.

>only good thing that ever happened to him gets deleted
he just can't catch a break
Well they did put it back in. And it was hilarious.

they aired the joke in a different episode, it was in the 138th episode spectacular
ok thats where i would it would have seen it from. My memory is kind of remembering that fact
I bet a lot of people only knew Richard Simmons from cartoon spoofs. He was spoofed constantly.
I just found out that he actually voiced this character in Rocko himself.
True, i only got to know who Richard Simmons was by listening to old Stern shows through the archives
Richard Simmons jokes were played out.
Best joke (in shitty quality)
it's so you buy the box sets of complete seasons
