Tony was a shitty person but he wasn’t lazy and was a fairly competent person (even though it was crime). Tony’s dad was a similar type of person and passed on all his negative personality traits to him but it didn’t cause Tony to be a neet. Boomers simply didn’t have this issue. Both Tony and Carmella tried pushing academics on their kids too so he was provided with all the tools to succeed but he chose not to take advantage of those tools the way meadow did.
That doesn't track because Meadow had the chops for academia and AJ clearly did not. AJ wasn't cut out for college, he was never going to be a doctor or a lawyer or anything like that. It’s not just about productivity. It’s hard wired in humans to despise laziness. Imagine we were living back in pre civilized society. The lazy tribe me member who contributed nothing is fricking dead weight. It would be at the detriment of the tribe’s survival to keep that person and allow him to leach resources. Maybe if we didn’t have so many useless people in the west they wouldn’t have to ship in so many shit skins who are willing to work to pick up the slack.
Our society permits freeloaders and even rationalizes them: many think society’s expectations are too high and ruthless while deluding themselves into thinking nature is more fair and benign. This type of thinking combined with anyone being able to get accommodations for real or perceived deficiencies is rampant.
