this whole "le modern day is soooo better" is kinda moronic when you consider that human ingenuity across the ages ensured that nearly everything modern tech has invented has already been made by someone else. Rennaisance europe had clockwork robots and ancient persia had giant fridges to make ice in the middle of the desert. And of course the pyramids

Todays robots mostly happen to be toys as well! Unless they are factory robots, but that kind of different, and the late middle ages had examples of mechanized, assembly line style factories.
          >Massive endeavors to do what we can do with a store bought apparatus.
Not really, these buildings were usually the height of a four storey building, and the only work needed to be done was bringing the water there,

          Anonymous

not at all, Im just saying that thinking that we have it so much better then those who lived before us is untrue, and that many things we see as modern luxuries are a lot older than one might think

            Anonymous

Yeah, but back then the effort to get those luxuries were much more difficult then, and you had to essentially be nobility to enjoy those comforts. Nowadays people today live far more comfortably compared to the average peasant in some mud hut. Things developed to the point where some luxuries were able to be more widespread and cheaper for the common person.

It wasn't part of the original Arabic versions of Nights. It as only later added when a French guy heard the story from a Middle-Eastern guy and then took it to add to the French version of Nights.

Also, the story doesn't take place in Imperial China. It only mentions that Aladdin was living in a city in "China" which can be taken as the Eastern edge of the Arab world which could be around Central Asia possibly somewhere along the Silk Road. They also mention there being a sultan who Aladdin succeeds and the sorcerer being from someplace in Northern Africa and no mention of anything Chinese.

It does house all the military guards, various servants, a bunch of high ranking nobles with their various jobs in accounting, strategic planning in both country and military, religious figures, Jafar and all the stored wealth of Agraba
Imagine the US holding all of its precious metals wealth and military in the white house
Or just a major city handling that. Its hard to not make big buildings to protect leadership when everyone has the same weaponry
