why dont they just move somewhere else?
Just move to the top of a mountain that way you are closer to the sun.
Yeah but what if the sun crashes into earth?
You'd be dead the second the Sun started moving away from its axis
Go into a deep bunker for 50 years and you would be fine. Fire cant burn dirt
Why not just go to the sun at night when it's sleeping?
Bad movie. It's a good example of why less is more and how a good movie is ruined by unnecessarily dramatic music and acting. Literally 2001 but the cast making basedjack faces at the sun to needlessly swelling scores.
This man. Also felt the entire ending was moronic. The previous captain becoming le burnt scary monster man whose strong enough to just murder other characters was just such a joke as well.
That was the only part I liked. The first half was just as dumb, except less entertaining.
yes, we know you're a stupid contrarian. You don't have to always tell us
>That was the only part I liked
It is universally agreed that the third act is terrible because it turns an otherwise good film into monster of the week schlock. You are a midwit though so it would make sense that you enjoyed that, i can recommend Transformers 2 for you
exceedingly low iq agreement
>an otherwise good film
There's nothing good about it other than neat special effects. The whole idea is moronic and the characters are nonexistent.
>It is universally agreed that...
the reddit npcs have arrived
its agreed that its tone turns it into a slasher parody that is almost laughable
contrarians for sake of contrarian
this post is spot on. good movie for a single watch but it really only succeeded due to the drama due to the moronic characters (going to the 1st ship, losing the airdock, forgetting to adjust the mirrors angles, etc)
I've never seen someone so filtered
Powered by the sun genius
I read on reddit that the previous captain was actually a projection of Cillian Murphy's character and that made all of it make way more sense.
universally agreed by reddit, not anyone with taste
>Literally 2001
Have you never seen 2001?
>So if you wake up one morning and it's a particularly beautiful day, you'll know we made it.
Kino movie.
Sunshine > moon
Maybe they're dropping a super heavy element, or some kind of catalyst. Who cares if it makes for a good movie...mostly good movie in this case.
>moon
Moon is great for totally different reasons. Sam Rockwell is one of the best.
>Maybe they're dropping a super heavy element
That would just poison the sun, it's a reaction of burning "super light elements" hydrogen
>That would just poison the sun, it's a reaction of burning "super light elements" hydrogen
More mass would make it possible to burn/fuse heavier elements.
Why would there be antimatter in the sun and how would they interrupt fusion when their anihilation would release orders of magnitudes more energy than simple fusion?
it still just is some movie
No it's a super bomb that's supposed to shoot the antimatter particle that's interrupting the fusion out of the Sun.
Sunshine actually shares several similarities with Event Horizon rather than Moon.

>Is this the science fiction movie with the most moronic premise?
Have you seen that movie where they put rockets into the planet to get it out of the solar system?
More likely, evil humans are holding the Sun hostage with nuclear bombs, and forcing it to shine. The Sun probably has to go through a dim period at some point.
What you morons don't realize is that they had nowhere to go EXCEPT making the other captain the villain. No conflict otherwise
There could have been all manner of technical problems, but the technology aspect of atomic physics isn't real, so it had to be illustrated through the contrast of the human psyche pertaining to the relationship with God and the Sun.
>build ship that has to fly to the sun
>name it ICARUS
>be shocked when it fails
>send the ICARUS 2 to its rescue
it didn't fail it was gonna work it was just the crazy blurry christian guy who fricked it up
Third act was so shit it manage to completely ruin the whole movie.
From kino to garbage on fire in 40 mins.
ahem, The Core would like you to watch it
both examples of how the premise can be extremely moronic but still make for a good movie.
>ahem, The Core would like you to watch it
Funny thing is that the Core is leagues less moronic than Sunshine, but Sunshine has much higher budget to hide it.
>yes, it's impossible, we cant get down there
>...but what if we could?
kino
What about the movie where the Earth's C O R E stops spinning and they dig down to the C O R E of the planet to blow a huge nuclear bomb to start the C O R E again.
>metaphor for humans getting closer to God and the the nature of faith, what separates us from other animals
>nah the old captain is le monster man who thinks he's the REAL god
What the frick were they thinking, seriously
You see, they needed slasher murderer, because flying in a pressurised tin can towards Sun is not terrifying at all.
remember when everything was predicted to end in the year 2012?
Good disaster movie at least first half
It did, but they were only a few years off
it did end. We are living it
do i remember correctly that they flew literally into the sun?
Sunshine is great when you watch it as an allegory of Science vs religion.
>Science (capital s) vs religion (lowercase r)
go back
I don't think it's explained well in the movie but something flew into the sun which stops it from working properly and they're attempting to destroy it with the bombs or something.
Still, it's a great movie, even the third act.
They left out a key scene from the book.
The Sun apparently stopped spinning because it's tired
>The Sun collapses in bed after a long day, and bares his soul to anyone listening:
>'I mean, why do you think I was doing all of this? Just want to get away from all this bullshit...I'm tired, I really am'
the science checks out, you're just a moron that doesn't understand nuclear fission
I though the main plot of Interstellar was dumb:
>The blight is killing our food, and will change our atmosphere so we'll suffocate.
>Let's move all the humans from Earth into space where there is no atmosphere, so we'll have to build expensive space stations.
>Why didn't we just build dome structures on Earth so we could control the air inside and cut off sections in the event that blight contaminates it?
don't think about it just feel it
I was really confused when Matthew came back and suddenly there was a giant space station with all humanity in it and apparently safe soil and atmosphere.
Anon love is the most important thing. Love is more powerful than all your carbonnanofibretubes science gobbledyasiatic.
Everybody just learned to love the spacestations and therefore there is no blight.
You missed the part where the purpose of the program was to create colonies for rich people while the rest is left on Earth to eat dusty shit
iirc the sun was infected with some theoretical thing that's off-script and the payload contains something that reverses the dying process, or ejects the thing altogether
it was like prions, but for the sun
Wait, how is creating the same type of fusion on what amounts to a microscopic scale gonna save the sun? That don't even make sense if you know nothing about the sun, just the sheer scale alone should tell you that's a dumb idea.
The movie kinda glosses over all the technicalities, that's why it starts with the plan already underway. Bad choice in my opinion.
its better to not try to get in depth on sci-fi bullshit, the audience doesn't want it and its not going to be realistic regardless of how you do it
>Is this the science fiction movie with the most moronic premise?
It would be if Interstellar didn't exist.
nothing will beat moonfall, was so fricking moronic it looped back into kino THEN back into slop
What did he see?
Sunshine is great and I won't hear muh third act anymore about it.
>muh third act
but didn't you read up thread? It is UNIVERSALLY agreed upon, anon. You therefore can't have a different opinion.
very based, third act hate is the most reddit opinion
My only hate is for implausible the crispy bacon antagonist. There's no way he should be alive, or a real threat, he is barely a skeleton at this point.
It was actually scientifically sound
>Is this the science fiction movie with the most moronic premise?
And the cell is powered solely by its own hatred of the world......
Like some fricking anime
This is Space Godzilla, right?
I feel like this movie is tied with Prometheus for taking a good sci-fi concept and just going straight off of a cliff with it.
The last act of Sunshine is actually the missing Event Horizon footage converted and retouched.
t. Knower
If only.
>source: It came to me in a dream
The third act is pure kino. I'm not opposed at all to the first ship captain having tapped into some supernatural force in his delirium. The situation is already so over the top that such insanity doesn't feel out of place, and thematically it fits too. I just wish Boyle didn't go so hard with the shaky cam, it's obnoxious.
i'm not gonna say i predicted it on the first watch but i wondered if there was going to be a payoff to all the heavy sun worshipping talk
moronic premise is required for the crew to act moronic in a moronic psychological thriller
AZIZ
Realistically is covering your spaceship with mirrors really enough to get that close to the sun?
no. I doubt we have mirrors that are reflective enough currently to get that close, there is variation in material reflectivity, even if we can't really perceive much of a difference between them and a normal old fashioned mirror.
And there's more to it than just visible UV light, Gamma rays from the sun wouldn't give a frick about the mirror, so the crew would have died of radiation poisoning.
>Is this the science fiction movie with the most moronic premise?
that's the wandering earth
because it's not a science fiction movie and people thinking it is is why so many get disappointed. You should recognize from the very first shots (poc-marked unmadeup faces under ugly lighting) that this is a social-realism communism danny boyle tenement catholic human-sewer-splash
