Complaints are it's libshit garbage that severely misportrayed Alexander.
Nope. Farrell isn't the problem. Length or pacing aren't either. They've changed up the chronology of events ending up misrepresenting motivations and they made everyone literally gay.
true or not, and it's been rumored forever, the gay shit represented the downfall to Orientalism. Only real complaint is they skipped over the Egypt campaign
Nope. Tons of complaints. The gay stuff is complete bogus and they didn't even just make the big guy gay, they made everyone gay. Entering Babylon would've been a really kino scene if not for all the sodomy.
there was definitely a bigger chance of fricking eunuchs in Babylon vs Macedon or Athens

And? Alexander adopted some Oriental practices like having his fellow Greeks kneel before him but I don't recall it being that big of a deal.

Alexander's adoption of Eastern practises was a big fricking deal which not only saw his generals come to loggerheads but had ramifications for centuries to come

You're being as vague as before. The incident where he killed Cleitus or the murder complot against him were relatively minor.

Him subsequently becoming a god after his death was a pretty big deal, and novel for the Greeks

Even during his lifetime he considered himself son of a god and had Hephaistion proclaimed a demigod post mortem. I wonder, are you one of those people kvetching about Christianity?

The Eastern move towards living divinity was a big deal and saw significant impact on the Hellenistic states and eventually the Roman empire, which led to the conflict with Christianity

>which led to the conflict with Christianity
Well, Rome got conquered alright. I mean, maybe you're correct, I don't have much knowledge on this, but it doesn't seem very significant to me.

It very much does, by adopting Eastern ways Alexander changed the norm of Western thinking in reality for hundreds of years and saw a religion come into direct conflict with that (a religion which funnily enough stemmed from the conflict, the creation of Hellenized israelites), a religion which is the largest on Earth and from a state which is the bedrock of Western culture

Give me a couple of historical events where that dynamic comes into play.

Something mention worthy where orientalized Greeks come into conflict with Christianity.

What, the emperor/Christian conflict not significant enough for you?

I never thought of it being the result of orientalization.

Even with more minor stuff (the primary marriage to Roaxanne) the diadochi were chimping out at the idea of even being ruled by the east, and if Alexander hadn't died when he did there was a decent chance of a civil war between him, the Persian elite and the new army he was training against his generals

Yeah but that's one of his messes trying to unite all that stuff. He had two Persian wives from the ruling dynasties as well. I'm not seeing the broader picture is what I'm saying, he left things in shambles pretty much. but that being a strong contributor to Roman Emperors murdering Christians... I don't see it.

Jesus coming back to life, 9/11 (Jesus birthday is 9/11 according to many historians....interesting no)
Nope. Farrell isn't the problem. Length or pacing aren't either. They've changed up the chronology of events ending up misrepresenting motivations and they made everyone literally gay.
about half the posts on any history related forum or website back in the day were about how Alexander was Macedonian not Greek, then Macedonia just tapped out and became Northern Macedonia
Macedonians should just latch on to Basil I, the Byzantine Emperor. He was the first of the Macedonian dynasty and oversaw the Macedonian Renaissance, a flourishing of Byzantine culture and art, and under his dynasty Byzantium reached its greatest extent of power and military prowess since the time of Heraclius. Most sources point to his ethnicity as Armenian and Greek, but there's also a good chance he might be Slavic.
no one gives a frick about Byzantine, sorry to break it to you historygays and I say that as someone who considers it the Roman empire

maybe but nobody gives a frick about FYROMians either and im just saying they could pick this guy as a national hero and nobody would try to take it from them. he's in their league.

Their hero is Tose Proeski and there's nothing wrong with that
Rosario is (was) a hot mulatto girl, not exactly a full fledged ugly negress like the ones woke Hollywood is pushing right now. Plus, as I've said, we got pretty good fanservice of her and she was a secondary character, I personally dont mind too much that kind of race swap.
Yes. This is easily one of my favorite movies and even got me into ancient history. The problem is that people were expecting a straightforward biopic and instead got a complex character study based on an ancient philosophical treatise. That said, the action sequences are still top notch and the battle of Gaugamela is one of the greatest battle scenes ever shot on film. The attention to detail during that part shows that Oliver Stone genuinely cared for this movie. He spent years researching Alexander before writing the script and Colin Farrell really worked his ass off in preparation for the role. The music by Vangelis is god tier as well and one of my favorite soundtracks ever. I wholeheartedly believe this is one of those films that will be considered a masterpiece in the future.
but it is long and boring
>walking into Gordium, and cutting the film in half
>revisionist gayslop
Complaints are it's libshit garbage that severely misportrayed Alexander.

doesn't matter if it bogus it represents the European man falling to the Oriental way being soft and weak and tyrannical
Nah, it matters and what you're describing doesn't really fit Alexander anyway or Europeans for that matter.

the frick are you guys talking about? none of the characters in the movie are gay except for bagoas. alexander is shown as bisexual but that's it.
Wrong. Rewatch the Babylon harem part.
also super gay
It’s peak greekslop
Was it actually good? I’ve never seen it. Colin Farrel looks too weird with his hair dyed blond and I can’t suspend disbelief
Nope. Farrell isn't the problem. Length or pacing aren't either. They've changed up the chronology of events ending up misrepresenting motivations and they made everyone literally gay.
That’s a shame. Alexander was the world’s first mega chad but of course Hollywood has to make him a gay.
Yup. The movie's production values are pretty neat, soundtrack too, which makes it extra sad. Could've had something there.
It's on record that he made out with the eunuch
What record?
Abbey Road
that's what appears on ancient sources like plutarch
I've read Arrian and not the least hint of that there.
Plutarch never says he made out
It also says that all his soldiers went up to kiss him.
Baby, they were born that way!
Why is Cassander in this movie? He shouldn't have been in it at all
My complaint is Ferrell is miscast and has a stupid working class Irish accent that I cant take seriously.
Macedonia was the Ireland of Ancient Greece
For the next adaption they should cast a Macedonian (North) as Alexander just for the lols
He would steal everything
about half the posts on any history related forum or website back in the day were about how Alexander was Macedonian not Greek, then Macedonia just tapped out and became Northern Macedonia

Their hero is Tose Proeski and there's nothing wrong with that
they didn't even have nations back then though
Or Prince Marko
Alexander the great was Albanian actually don't @ me monkeydonians and serbnigs
Alexander was the same ethnicity as Tesla (everyone can claim him)
It's just not a good movie in general
rosario dawsons floppy breasts alone make it a kino for the ages
Which cut? There's about 4 different ones
it's too gay
It’s way too fricking gay
Wasn't there a cut where someone removed all the gay shit? I'd be interested in watching that.
For all the gay shit, it does have the best breasts in a sex scene I've seen
It is not a kino. Face it.
It is like that Exodus film.
Rosario Dawson entirely nude was the only thing salvable, otherwise it was just way too homoerotic for my taste.
Yes but shame they nigged the historical figure
Rosario is (was) a hot mulatto girl, not exactly a full fledged ugly negress like the ones woke Hollywood is pushing right now. Plus, as I've said, we got pretty good fanservice of her and she was a secondary character, I personally dont mind too much that kind of race swap.
Soz, central asian baddies are superior
BUT YOU DREAM
