Complaints are it's libshit garbage that severely misportrayed Alexander.

Nope. Farrell isn't the problem. Length or pacing aren't either. They've changed up the chronology of events ending up misrepresenting motivations and they made everyone literally gay.

true or not, and it's been rumored forever, the gay shit represented the downfall to Orientalism. Only real complaint is they skipped over the Egypt campaign

        Anonymous

Nope. Tons of complaints. The gay stuff is complete bogus and they didn't even just make the big guy gay, they made everyone gay. Entering Babylon would've been a really kino scene if not for all the sodomy.

doesn't matter if it bogus it represents the European man falling to the Oriental way being soft and weak and tyrannical

Nah, it matters and what you're describing doesn't really fit Alexander anyway or Europeans for that matter.

And? Alexander adopted some Oriental practices like having his fellow Greeks kneel before him but I don't recall it being that big of a deal.

Alexander's adoption of Eastern practises was a big fricking deal which not only saw his generals come to loggerheads but had ramifications for centuries to come

Even during his lifetime he considered himself son of a god and had Hephaistion proclaimed a demigod post mortem. I wonder, are you one of those people kvetching about Christianity?

The Eastern move towards living divinity was a big deal and saw significant impact on the Hellenistic states and eventually the Roman empire, which led to the conflict with Christianity

                >which led to the conflict with Christianity
Well, Rome got conquered alright. I mean, maybe you're correct, I don't have much knowledge on this, but it doesn't seem very significant to me.

It very much does, by adopting Eastern ways Alexander changed the norm of Western thinking in reality for hundreds of years and saw a religion come into direct conflict with that (a religion which funnily enough stemmed from the conflict, the creation of Hellenized israelites), a religion which is the largest on Earth and from a state which is the bedrock of Western culture

Even with more minor stuff (the primary marriage to Roaxanne) the diadochi were chimping out at the idea of even being ruled by the east, and if Alexander hadn't died when he did there was a decent chance of a civil war between him, the Persian elite and the new army he was training against his generals

                Anonymous

Yeah but that's one of his messes trying to unite all that stuff. He had two Persian wives from the ruling dynasties as well. I'm not seeing the broader picture is what I'm saying, he left things in shambles pretty much. but that being a strong contributor to Roman Emperors murdering Christians... I don't see it.

Macedonians should just latch on to Basil I, the Byzantine Emperor. He was the first of the Macedonian dynasty and oversaw the Macedonian Renaissance, a flourishing of Byzantine culture and art, and under his dynasty Byzantium reached its greatest extent of power and military prowess since the time of Heraclius. Most sources point to his ethnicity as Armenian and Greek, but there's also a good chance he might be Slavic.

Rosario is (was) a hot mulatto girl, not exactly a full fledged ugly negress like the ones woke Hollywood is pushing right now. Plus, as I've said, we got pretty good fanservice of her and she was a secondary character, I personally dont mind too much that kind of race swap.

Yes. This is easily one of my favorite movies and even got me into ancient history. The problem is that people were expecting a straightforward biopic and instead got a complex character study based on an ancient philosophical treatise. That said, the action sequences are still top notch and the battle of Gaugamela is one of the greatest battle scenes ever shot on film. The attention to detail during that part shows that Oliver Stone genuinely cared for this movie. He spent years researching Alexander before writing the script and Colin Farrell really worked his ass off in preparation for the role. The music by Vangelis is god tier as well and one of my favorite soundtracks ever. I wholeheartedly believe this is one of those films that will be considered a masterpiece in the future.
