it's pretty bad, season 1 was teasing something good with them slowly coming together, but they reset it each season and start from 0 and ending right as they are gaining momentum

I made a thread probably like 18 months ago after watching it all, it's so fricking dogshit

Yeah, it got old after 2 seasons. All of the character development is reset every season so every season you start off not giving a single shit about any of the characters.

Also turning Luther into a moron for the second season made absolutely no sense.

the only person who ever mentioned this show to me was some brazilian guy who use to shill it to me when we use to play Steam games together. he ended up trooning out later and hasn't logged onto his steam account since like 2021.

Could not even complete the first season. No likeable characters. #Quirky. End of the world threat where I'd be glad to see everyone die. Boring. Superheroes who get their shit pushed in by two middle aged square badges that can't even see. I just kept saying what the frick is this shit over and over until I just stopped watching.

It genuinely pissed me off that it had a really diverse cast, but zero identity politics shit in season 1, and as soon as season 2 started they went "Oh frick we forgot to put identity politics shit in it, let's make everything about how brown and gay and oppressed we are"

Why the frick would you squander that AFTER you made something that successfully broke the trend? I somehow directly blame Ellen Page

Same thing that happened with The Boys. I assume its because they were actual passion projects when they released, and once it becomes a success, ~~*they*~~ forcibly take over production since it's now ~~*their*~~ next money printer.

It was 100% Ellen. She admitted she pushed them to add gay shit to the show.

season 1 was fun until they focused it on the troony toward the end , season 2 fricking sucked because they focused it entirely on the worst part of the show (the troony), and season 3 was even worse because there was somehow more time dedicated to the troony and got rid of all character work from the light skin one from the first 2 seasons. all they have to do is not focus on Ellen Paige and have the dynamics revolve around the rest of the family interacting. S3 was fun with the gay psychic homie, almost every interaction with the sparrow academy, and number 5/ the British lady working together. I just remembered they included the little kid from euphoria and he fricking sucked too.

Not that, it's how they tried to shoehorn in that one israelite as a mastermind instead of having the cult brainwash her instead. I really do wish they had taken her getting shot in the head and leaving her basically braindead for later seasons though.

it just kinda seems like they cared more about putting the most well known actor of the cast in-front of everyone else who had somewhat interesting character work in the comics. I mean for fricks sake they turned number 1 who's supposed to be basically autistic with how dedicated he is to Hargreaves into some naive moron that's super strong. 5 seems like the only one they were able to properly translate

Book one has the focus on Vanya from the beginning because her exclusion from her siblings is what causes her to go nuts and become The White Violin (who was way fricking cooler in the comics)

It's a decent show in spite of ellen page, she just drags down the show with her gay plotlines and trooning out.

I haven't seen it in like a year but I think they killed the alien guy and went into a new(?) universe where nobody had powers and they were looking for someone that I can't remember.

I discovered the second season of Outer Range is coming out this month because I saw a thread here yesterday.

It's ridiculous because with 10 grand you can advertise on twitter and tiktok to generate enough buzz.
Any studio can hire an intern to come here once a week and create a thread about all the upcoming shows and movies.

I feel the same about For All Mankind, nobody seems to discuss it here at all. I like it, even though it frustrates me that nobody's actions seem to ever have consequences, it has a bad habit of wrapping things up/ignoring them altogether so they can get to the next piece of character drama.

I'm laughing and getting angry simultaneously thinking about how this show is a microcosm of absolutely every piece of fiction from the last two decades or more

      >What we're doing is absolutely critical both to secure humanity's future and to give America the edge in a scifi war with a resurgent Soviet Union
      >I don't care, you're neglecting our marriage. None of that stuff is important unless you speak to your feelings!

I know it's literally caused by a certain number of women being mandatory in writers' rooms
I know that in any real life historical analogue, the response would be somewhere between "Simply chuckle and ignore the woman" and "Punch the woman in the face"

I watched the first 2 seasons. There was a direct correlation between how much of Paige was in an episode for how shit it was. The character was just the least interesting of of the siblings yet because they were paying her the most they had to giver more more time per episode, and her entre role in season 2 was "well Paige said she was a lesbian we'll make that all she does now". Meanwhile 5 who was the best character and actor got the short end of the stick

Totally. Even young Vanya mogs Paige's Vanya.
That scene with Vanya watching as the kids are getting the umbrella tattoo is pure kino.

I remember the sequel seasons sucking dick because they were essentially just about this one kid who happens to be a Mary Sue and everyone else sort of following behind him, while also really, really pretending the off-screen father figure had a lot of crazy shit going on that was going to be revealed and resolved, but never was.

But the only part that I actually remember specifically was the fact that I guess this Time Travel Secret Agent bureau sent these two assassins out to deal with the kid and his family, and they're always shown in these big, obtuse cartoon mascot head mask-helmets (which is fine, whatever), except that the mask-helmets are always rigid and I'm pretty sure even take and deflect bullet fire at some points? But then they show them in the next scene with the masks taken off and they're like, floppy rubber masks instead of solid.

That one bit is the only part I remember.

My gf is involved with the production in this show and apparently the producers are PISSED at Ellen Page. They basically hired her, albeit past her prime, to be qt fapbait that would keep nerds tuning in and then she goes and troons out halfway through which caused viewership to plummet and derailed most of what the writers had wanted to do with the character. Last I checked they were looking for a way to cut their losses and end the show since she's essentially the main character and they can't just kill her off.

Combined with the bogging of Starlight in "The Boys," producers are wising up and getting on their lawyers' asses to come up with a clause in actresses' contracts preventing body modification unless it's approved by the studio. I don't think there's a legal pathway to it yet, but producers are sick of hiring eye candy actresses only to have them frick their own shit up and come back as a literal different person in between seasons with zero explanation.

Umbrella academy S1 is hella fun
It's original, it has great characters and an interesting story.
Now, the problem is every other season is infuriatingly same-y
First season, you got 5, with a quest, trying to stop the end of the world, and non of the family gives a shit.
They come together at the end, and save the day, kinda
And the fricking S2 and 3 are the exact same fricking thing
Why wouldn't anyone fricking try to help 5 or actually believe what he is saying when his knowledge was proven true on S1? It's infuriating
