the vampire diaries (TVD) is amazing

TVD is the greatest show of all, and the show has universal appeal. It enrages me that so many people write off the show as a Twighlight ripe off and it almost has nothing to do with it past the pilot. To all the people who haven't watched TVD Please tell me why and please give me a good reason. To all of you that have seen the show let me know what you think of this

It's kind of shit honestly. There's no realistic reason any of them should ever forgive Damon for casually going on murder sprees whenever he's in a bad mood, and it basically makes all the protags unlikable douchebags for letting it slide, and they for some reason treat people who want to murder all the vampires as if they're in the wrong when they're 100% justified.

vampires cant control emotions so naturally other vampires gets it. I mean Stefan is more fricked than demon is

        Anonymous

sure but then they act like the humans who want to get rid of all the vampires are somehow in the wrong.

And they can control their emotions, they just have an option to switch them off, but Damon casually murders people even when he's in full control of his emotions just because he's having a bad day or Elena rejected him or some petty shit. it's dumb as frick that any of them tolerate his shit.

na your right. I guess thats what I like about it though. I see myself rooting for the antagonist. I guess its like death note in the sense the main character isnt morally right but i still root for the "evil" side

            Anonymous

The problem is the show doesn't seem self-aware about this fact. I'd be fine with it if the protagonists were just chaotic/selfish and the show knew it but it seems to want us to believe they're the good guys, they constantly go on moralizing sprees and act like they're better than the villains when they're really not at all.

I remember the tipping point for me was when they acted like that witch exile kid Kai was some unforgivable monster for casually killing people, even though half the cast had murdered like 10 people and Damon would casually laugh with the sheriff about how half her missing persons cases were caused by him.

have you seen Originals? They gave him is own show. Have you seen that?

Yes, it was okay until the final 2 seasons or so and then I felt like it had the same issues where it didn't really know what to do.

        >I mean Stefan is more fricked than demon is
        Only because of unlucky genetics.
Stefan is a ripper so his bloodlust is far more out of control compared to every other vampire but Damon has more reprehensible kills. What he does to Aaron Whitmore was probably the most evil thing in the show.

how much of the show have you seen? Also Vampire genocide is 100% ok with you? And Damon has made big mistakes and maybe they stretch the ability of disbelief a little too much but, that ruins the show for you?

        Anonymous

I watched up until the last season then got bored.
        >vampire genocide is 100% okay with you
Given that they go on murder sprees whenever they're in a bad mood, yes. It's legit impossible to sympathize with the main cast when they're pals with a literal serial killer and I'm expected to somehow be against the people trying to murder these fricks.

        >this ruins the show for you?
It's one of the things but honestly the show just gets incredibly contrived, makes up random BS rules for its magic whenever its convenient, the power levels are absurdly inconsistent and it clearly ran out of ideas after Klaus.

Oh also Elena is an incredibly boring and shit character but they make the entire show revolve around her so the target demographic can self insert

Yes the vampire is fair. Season 5 starts off with a guy like this and the whole "hunters" things gets dropped way to quickly. They are only the antagonist because the protagonist sympathizes with vampires for better or (more often) worse

It's a lot better than it has any right being. Definitely the best Vampire media I've engaged with. It starts falling apart with Silas though.

This is true though. All the protagonists are chaotic good at best. And they try to act like they're morally superior to Klaus when at least there's method to his madness.

Only when he is freed. The whole hunter for him/the cure is pretty good and gives bonnie some good moments

Silas is alright but I feel the show started asspulling new antagonists so the story wouldn't end and a lot of the new drama was kind of mediocre. I think VD could have ended a lot earlier than it did. It peaked earlier when Katherine and Klaus were the antagonists, though Kai's season was solid. The Originals leaving for their own show was the beginning of the decline.

I always find myself getting nostalgic and think about rewatching Angel.

Then I remember Doyle and Angel's kid, and I change my mind.
Then I remember Lorne and I start looking for torrents.
Then I think more about Angel's kid and I just scrap the entire idea and jerk off to troony porn instead.

It's also just a giant ad for teens to drink alcohol and I think someone pointed that out back when it aired. Julie Plec or whatever her name was did the same with Originals, everyone is always drinking and they always make it sound like being alcoholic is great and won't ruin your life

It's weird when you're an adult writing a show for teenagers and you're constantly shoving alcohol in every episode. Nothing is done for the sake of it, just look at Nickelodeon and their history with feet

I've caught bits while my friend was watching it. The soundtrack is excellent, but the writing was poor and the acting not much better. But since it's a show for teenage girls, that's expected. Niklaus was the only worthwhile character.

Doesn't stop it from being a show for teens. Rocko's Modern Life was a show for kids but found an audience with universal appeal. Still a show for kids. There's no shame in liking a show made for teen girls, anon. I'll admit that Teen Wolf on MTV was pretty alright, and in seasons 3 and 4 really found good footing and was a solid show.
