The actor they cast to play the character of Fox, Thomas G. Waites, was such an insufferable c**t during production that he created major issues between himself, the other cast, and the production team. He had zero chemistry with the female they cast as the love interest, and pretty much questioned any direction given to him. It got to the point where the production team was sick of his shit, and he left the project, demanding that he not be credited for his role. The production team accepted his offer to quit, made the character Swan the lead, and killed off the character of Fox using a stunt double.

This actor would go on to get a role in 1982's The Thing by John Carpenter, where he would once again be a major pain in the ass. His character wasn't originally named Window's, but he went up to Carpenter and suggested it should be because he wanted to wear glasses / sunglasses that would like "windows" into the character or some shit. Carpenter didn't give a shit, and was fine with the name change.

      What was his problem?

Assault on precinct 13 is a more frightening movie about gang violence but not normalgay enough.

      >One of the most famous John Carpenter movies is "not normalgay enough"
Assault isn't about gang violence anyway, it's a Western style siege in an updated setting. None of the gang members act like human beings, they're practically zombies.

      >RIFFS!!
The end scene where Swan takes out the rogues leader, Luther, is a direct ripoff of Kurosawa's ending from 1961's Yojimbo.

In the scene, Yojimbo is alone facing a gang of like 9 dudes, the leader of which is armed with an old west revolver. As Yojimbo approaches, he starts to run to the left, then right, making it harder for to get shot, and he draws a small knife and throws it, sticking the dude with the gun in his gun hand, disabling it before he approaches and cuts him down with a sword, before going to town and killing the rest of the gang members.

Both The Warriors and Yojimbo are better than anything nu-Hollywood has put out over the past decade or so.

In the final scene of the Warriors, Swan hides an extended switchblade knife behind his back, and then sidesteps and throws it when Luther tries to take his shot. Luthers' firing hand is disabled with the knife, and Swan retrieves it and wipes the blood off on Luthers hair. Before anything else can happen, the Riffs show up in force, and Masai, their leader, gives the "You Warriors are good....REAL good" speech before letting the Warriors go

Hey, is that a white guy in their gang? You can see his face there in the back.

I remember watching this years ago and found it kinda weird. I might be misremembering, but isn't most of the movie them running somewhere, meeting another gang, fighting said gang then running somewhere else and repeating this? Granted I don't remember the dialog or characters mich but that is how it stayed in my mind.

I agree OP. I saw it for the first time around 2016 and really disliked it. I think I had recently watched Miami Connection and was looking for more 80s kino and this was complete shit. It completely lacks soul and humor. They play the campy gang uniforms completely straight like you're actually supposed to be scared of guys wearing these ridiculous getups. And on top of that you have the racial angle where black guys and white guys are in a gang together, completely took me out of the movie.

The whole movie is just them running around. It's cool on paper but in practice, only the game is exciting.
