Explain what? Read the thread or read a fricking book. The OP video is misleading. It’s not a “video” of real atoms, it’s a CG artists interpretation of what it might be like. The shit I took earlier was more impressive than this video.

Yes, It’s sad that the most legitimate field of study has to resort to visualizations to get anyone to care about them but that’s the price you pay as you deal with increasingly abstract and complex information.

                >the most legitimate field of study
                That's not philosophy
                >to get anyone to care about them
Maybe nobody cares about space because it has no impact on our lives, is completely dead and empty for unimaginable stretches of distance forever and ever, and the entire field of study thereof has proven to be completely useless, yet we keep funding it instead of using those resources on something earthly
                >good news! there's an epic exoplanet FBKSD9235, it's ten gorillion trillion light years away and we will literally never ever ever in our history learn anything else about it or get any closer to it, and even if we did, it's just a big ball of gas with nothing of interest, import, or use on it
Amazing! Please have 10 more billion dollars (sorry we had to cut the space budget to fund ukraine)

Right now Russians are going to the moon. Again. Why? There's fricking nothing on it!
Why does Elon Musk want to terraform and colonize Mars? The real answer is that he doesn't, it's all marketing to sell cars, but why does normie want him to? Does it not occur to him that colonizing literally any desert, or Antarctica, would be 10 trillion times cheaper and also not completely impossible?

all residual romantization of space, all effects of sci-fi media
space matters so little it may as well not be real.
                i fricking hate space
Please come back down to Earth

because normies (and I use this word positively, as in, we, us, normal people, who aren't obsessed with muh science and don't worship it) think of atoms as little balls, so that's what they show
Because real atoms are not something that have a visual interpretation. They don't have an appearance or a color or a shape, they are energy. Electrons aren't tiny balls that are orbiting the protons, they are fields. Atoms are essentially invisible. You think if you "zoom in" super real hard enough you will see the tiny balls, like they show in movies and stuff with CG, but no

They just wanted publicity so they made a cg cartoon about a boy made out of tiny metal balls

It’s not science as we once knew it (science being a synonym for truth basically, the study of reality) now SOIENCE!!!!!! is just political lies and garbage. Modern “”””””””””scientists”””””””””” claim men are women and that anyone who disagrees should be killed.

        >Electrons aren't tiny balls that are orbiting the protons
they don't "orbit" the atomic nucleus like a 2d drawing of an atom might make you believe but they certainly behave as particles and also behave as waves. Wave-particle duality is literally day 1 material for any course you dumbfrick
        >electrons are fields
particles could be described as vibrations of a field but thinking they themselves are the field is a such a hilariously knuckle-dragging misunderstanding

          Anonymous

          you are missing the point
whether or not they are particles or waves or both, the point is that you can't visualize them
because the idea of visualization applies to things that can be hit by light and reflect it back to create an image, and atoms can't do that, and so the video is as misleading and incorrect as the iconic atom symbol with the orbiting balls

            Anonymous

that is true, both electrons and an atom's much larger nuclei are way too small for any wavelength of light to diffract off of.
doesn't change the fact that you typed "(electrons) are fields," lmao
