Just finished season 4, never seen it before, when does it get bad?
I don't think I've enjoyed two character's interactions more than Mulder and Scully.

I think it's after season 7 or 8 when David Duchovny left the show
But yeah season 4 rocks. The only bad one I remember is field where I died but just about everything else, especially musings, tunguska, zero sum, and the finale are all great
Starts becoming a mess late in season 5 when they introduce the magical mindreading nerd kid
I watched like a couple episodes after Mulder left but then dropped it as Season 7 was already a drag in parts and I lost interest. I watched the original finale which was fricking moronic as frick.
Doggett is no Mulder, but he's cool. It's Reyes that drags the show down and makes it unwatchable. Baffling they brought her back for the reboot but Robert Patrick is never mentioned again.
Oh yeah I forgot about that bum b***h. She's insufferable.
reboot reyes einstein is even worse
>Baffling they brought her back for the reboot
As a shill for the conspiracy, which is fitting because she was discrediting the satanic panic before (pedo elite satanists are real)
>character is le evil because... she smokes the same cigarette brand as the villain
I'm sure Chris Carter patted himself on the back because he "foreshadowed" it in the original series.
I like the swift from Scully being a nonbeliever to Dogget
Reyes was just your average pixie girl that believes in astrology and shakras
Remember the third season episode where the whole town goes crazy including Mulder and Scully and the reason is “astrology”? CLASSIC
Gillian Anderson was a great actress. She carried the show imo
Gillian Anderson carried the show?? Fricking looooool. Simping is strong with this one.
I would not have watched it if it wasn't for her.
>he didn't start watching for the spooky aliens and develop a crush on scully as the series went on
>as the series went on
how do you not fall in love on first sight?
She looked kinda frumpy in season 1. I didn't really care for her until I noticed that she had the same kind of face structure of a girl I liked in high school.
it's amazing how i never imagined she was a bong
She has dual citizenship, and was born in Chicago.
Interesting how it goes to shit when Mulder leaves thoughever
you have to watch at least s7, some good eps later seasons but its not as good without mulder[/spoiler
remember watch the movie after s5 and before s6
you fricked up your spoiler tag
They wrap up the original mytharc with season 5 and the movie, so that's cool. I think it's pretty satisfying. Then they restart it, but meh, hard to care much after that. As for stand-alone eps, there are good ones throughout the series. Just watch until you get bored. Season 6 is when the show officially "dies," since they move filming from Vancouver to LA. Much of the original vibe is lost. But there are still great eps after the move.
>when does it get bad?
most people say after the movie, or after season 5, or after season 6. you'll notice the shift, it's still great though, they don't make stuff like this anymore
It never gets truly bad, there's enjoyable episodes in every season.
I'm on episode 5 of season 8 and it's still great. Is it supposed to get worse after Mulder fully leaves? He was still in the first two episodes for a total of 10 minutes. Doesn't he get released by the aliens and join an abductee group?
I guess you'll find about that
The mytharc becomes incredibly dumb after season 5 and they start dedicating more episodes to it which is lame
But generally true. Even once duchovny leaves there’s some frickin great episodes with Doggett
I'm sorry, I'm a simple man. I don't want Doggett. I want Mulder.
Roadrunners is one of my favorite episodes in the whole show. That one about the bat monster hunting the people that killed its mate is really cool too.
I enjoyed the mythos up until they killed off the Syndicate, which is halfway through Season 6.
>when does it get bad?
S2E1
Are there any alien/government conspiracy episodes that are as good as the monster of the week eps? I usually avoid them.
First few seasons' mytharc is pretty good and entertaining. Fifth season is where it starts to get off the rails and non-sensical
Yes. The mytharc episodes are some of the best for the first four seasons.
The mytharc is only good in S1. Kyrcek is insufferable.
Krycek is a great villain. It's just that he never dies so in the later seasons it becomes ridiculous.
I can't think of a single "good" villain the show had outside of the MoTW stuff. I hated Krycek and The Cigarette Smoking Man so much.
I guess you're moronic. Not much you can do about that.
He looks so moronic with the wig and beard
like a baby playing dress-up
i enjoyed that alien bounty hunting shapeshifter, although he doesnt seem like a villan, just a guy doing his job.
I remember who you're talking about, but just barely. I still think the MotW episodes had the better and more memorable antagonists, like the guy from Pusher.
That guy was like a budget Sam Neill
Yeah, I guess he was. And then there's Mark Sheppard in Fire and, of course, Eugene Tooms from Squeeze. I'm so mad they never revisited "Eve".
>Blood
I kind of remember this but also don't. It had a porn star as a guest star for some reason.
oh yeah ashley gere
do you think?
Krycek isn't my favorite but he isn't a bad character, and he isn't even the central part of a number of episodes he appears in.
Spook season is upon us
giwtwm
She wanted to frick him and offer herself to him but David wanted to frick Lucy liu
based
Scully looks like a dumb b***h in this photo tho. Not like my beautiful intelligent wife.
that's AI generated
Why does Mulder have Down Syndrome? Who did he catch it from?
Feet
I laughed so hard just now
>when does it get bad?
Depends on what you want from the show. Season 6 is great (arguably more consistent than 5) but there's a greater focus on comedy and a somewhat conspicuous new emphasis on desert/Western locations. This is where the mytharc more or less gives up the ghost. Season 7 is messy with some of the show's worst episodes but some gems. Season 8 is very good, but it trades the Mulder/Scully dynamic in favor of a new character in Mulder's place. Season 9 is mostly bad.
i really liked that one off episode where scullys pre oiccupied so the local police officer helps mulder for that episode it was kino one of the earlier episodes
>one of the earlier episodes
It wasn't
it was it was season two somewhere it was a monster of the week can't remeber what the monster was though
the episode was "blood" seasons 2 with the comupter and tvs telling people to kill somthing to do with the pesticide sprays with lsd it was nice having mulder with a different dynamic the the local cop helped investigate
Watching the movie in theaters was so fricking amazing.
25 years later and I still remember it like it was yesterday.
I remember people hyped up. It was sk fricking great
>25 years later and I still remember it like it was yesterday.
Damn. I'm gonna be 25 in a few months.
You were a lil baby when that movie came out
Movie was PG13. My aunt took me. I was a young kid . It was incredible
>You were a lil baby when that movie came out
I just checked. It came out in 98 so I wasn't born yet but, yeah. I watched it earlier this year on HBO Max. I only began watching The X-Files at the very end of last year/beginning of this year but wound up marathoning the whole thing (including the revival) in like 2-3 months.
The entire country was watching. Even kids in my school, we all talked about it.
The part in the movie at the end with the aliens and the ship, my aunt gasped. The audience in the theater was so hyped.
We bought the soundtrack the same day and I recorded the songs on a cassette. My aunt would play it on her car.
It really was amazing.
its insane to me that a show is so big that it got a movie in theaters
It sounds amazing. I've never got to be a part of something like that before. The stuff that's popular today... it's not for me. I can't imagine what it was like in the 80s and 90s. It was so jarring seeing an old episode of Fresh Prince where Will Smith mentioned Twin Peaks by name and everybody knew what he was talking about.
My friends had the toys, I could never find them,
The only other fandom I can think of recently was walking Dead in the first 3 seasons. It was similar to the x files craze. ( as far as horror tv)
That's why it was so insane, that's why the hype was insane.
And the movie was creepy and well made and had a great plot. The movie was really really high quality. The cameras they used. The sets. It all looked amazing
Don't think! Just pick up that phone and make it happen!
Man, I wish it did release here in Italy too but we were one season behind. Could only watch it on dvd years later.
Like I said here
Maybe it's nostalgia but the movie quality looked so good. The quality, the visuals, the music, it wasn't just an episode in theaters but you could feel the quality being higher, seeing scully in a giant screen was just incredible. It's 25 years and I still remember how it feels
>Maybe it's nostalgia but the movie quality looked so good.
Nah, it's a well-made film. The show itself already had great production for its budget (not that it was a cheap show).
At least they actually filmed the kiss albeit it being a deleted scene.
Yep and for some reason they only added it years later to the blu-ray edition.
Stop watching after Season 5 and the first movie.
once it becomes skully/rober patrick, its already on the decline. which sucks because they finally give skinner some character and of course robert patrick is great, but alas its already doomed
I wonder how long the X-files sticks around if it was airing in the current state of film/television. Two of the main issues sprung about from Duchovny realizing he had to try and make his move from TV to movies if he wanted true A-list status. First the move to LA for filming instead of kino Vancouver, and then ultimately his departure. Nowadays TV carries enough prestige I wonder if he would have tried to make both work.
Well the subject matter would get this show cancelled for misinformation.
I hate to bring up moronic current politics but it is what it is.
And MULDER would probably be black so no David Duchovny.
Also there's no way they would make a show depicting cops or FBI agents on a positive way.
There's no way x files as it is would make it now. Twitter and tiktok would call it racist boot licking right wing conspiracy.
And David Duchovny didn't just leave for movies.
Fox was stealing money from him. Millions, and Chris Carter knew and allowed it. Besides David Duchovny is a huge skeptic and he always disliked MULDER.
On some interview someone asked what would he say if MULDER was a real person and David said something like: stupid, idiot, failed detective, incompetent, childish, naive, bad friend, bad at his job
So from episode one David hated mulder
I recall some excerpt on how Chris Carter was planning on making the season 5 to be the end and the storyline would continue on in the movies. The thing is Fox greenlight season 6 immediately after Fight the Future and things went awry.
Reboot eps worth watching?
Going to be honest, I think the reboot as a whole is worth watching. S11 is one of the best. S10 is mediocre at times but not any worse than the bad episodes of the original. Almost all the mytharc episodes are godawful, but what else would you expect from the mytharc? Just ignore it.
Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster
The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat
Those two are great, I think the mostly-silent episode with technology revolting was amusing as well.
>that'll be 20 dollars plus tip
The mytharc is boring and pointless. If you only watch motw episodes (the correct way to watch the series) you should watch till Mulder leaves.
Daily reminder.
Reminder that studio heads were always deeply moronic and it's not a modern or woke thing.
frick off with your gaslighting
they also wanted lucy lawless for scully really bad
Interesting... why? I know she later said she based her Xena performance off of Mulder.
>why? I know she later said she based her Xena performance off of Mulder.
WHAT
how? i dont see it. what did she mean?
I have no idea. I've barely seen Xena.
X-Files and Xena fan, and this is the first time I'm hearing this. Seems like a random statement for her to make since both characters are in no way similar.
man I feel bad for the people born in that timeline
>AHHHHHHHHHHH SPACE GHOSTS!!!
Coast to Coast
>unironically watching 11 season and 2 movies of Cucked Beyond Belief
>Says this
>eww not you though
>Sucks a guy she just met at a nightclub the next day
>like a switch has been flicked somewhere
ah yes, that's the veganal opening circumference switch. once chad dick stretches it past a certain threshold the brain receives the "time to settle down" signal
It's time to take a break from 4chins, friendo.
was a good show
almost tricked me into respecting women
then I entered the workforce and interacted with them irl
You got like 2 more seasons before it starts going downhill. I never finished it because of that.
Scully is one of those b***hes my dad ruined for me by letting me know he had the hots for them. Also Zoe saldaña and sabrina the teenage witch. Never liked sabrina though
hd was a mistake, yuck
queer
>implying you wouldn't let her rub your cucumber
i wouldn't let that rat infested snatch anywhere near my shit. you have 0 standards. she isn't even the hottest of trek chicks
>trek
A lot of actors can only play themselves but it’s clear she’s really great because Scully is nothing like the extroverted roastie turboprostitute Anderson is IRL.
ill literally never forget wehn she was on top gear. first time i ever saw her outside of a role. holy frick she is so hot and ditzy its unreal
I'm so amazed by the casting. I love how she is pretty, cute, sexy, smart, kind, strong but also has moments of vulnerability.
Seasons 1-4 are best. 5 is good, but disjointed. The movie is awesome.
Duds start to appear after 5, really shaky after Mulder leaves but even when it's bad in 9 there's still some good bits
Kind of baffled at how bad this show is. Season 1 was great, I guess they either burnt out on ideas or were chastised for putting too many actual historical conspiracies in the public consciousness and had to make the show deliberately stupid as penance.
I really don't understand how some people hold the first season on a pedestal. Season 2 alone blows it the frick out.
They literally abandon the central premise of the show after the first season.
In what way?
Alien abductions are just the government.
The X Files stop getting brought up.
Mulder’s whole identity is tied to his sisters abduction but he doesn’t give a frick when Scully is abducted.
>Alien abductions are just the government.
Except when they aren't. I agree though; the government was given way too much focus.
>The X Files stop getting brought up.
No? I don't even know why you think this.
>but he doesn’t give a frick when Scully is abducted.
"3" being a terrible episode aside, that's not true at all. His commitment to finding her is a big part of "One Breath."
I'm not having a green text battle with you. The major alien abductions in the first season are revealed to have been the government. The X Files as historical documents that Mulder digs through in a basement or consults with the Gunmen on are essentially abandoned, I don't know why you are arguing against this. Mulder's commitment to finding Scully amounted to her just randomly showing up again and then they both continue on like nothing happened.
>I don't know why you are arguing against this.
Because anyone that's watched the show knows you're wrong.
I’m not wrong. The X Files is set up as the unexplainable cases in the FBI that they don’t acknowledge but understand that they have to be dealt with so they let Mulder run wild because he’s the best agent they have. They have a history and function in the FBI, and that concept is abandoned for a grand conspiracy.
Most episodes are MOTW. Most of those MOTW episodes deal with X-file cases.
Again, in the first season Mulder is usually in his office pouring over old X files at least once an episode. This stops.
Not really. Plenty of episodes have Mulder making connections to old cases or files he has stored away out of his own autistic interest. They get put on cases in multiple ways, but they're still X-file cases and it's still their job. Tons of episodes begin with Mulder introducing Scully to a casefile or something connected to one.
How many episodes have him literally reading the X Files dummy?
>It doesn't count because it just doesn't count.
It doesn’t count because the show abandons the central premise. I notice you didn’t answer the question. Here’s another: remember when they called him Spooky?
>Sure the show is all about how Mulder and Scully pursue cases revolving around mysterious phenomena called X-files but the show abandons the central premise of pursuing cases revolving around mysterious phenomena called X-files
So you don’t remember? In the first season they called Mulder “Spooky”, indicating that he was an outsider in the FBI.
He mentions being called spooky mulder in the movie.
And in the show?
I’m currently binge watching (near the end of S3) and there have been mentions of his nickname throughout my viewing thus far.
They also regularly mention the X files.
They also regularly pursue monsters-of-the-week.
You’re hyper fixated on some stupid thematic purity test that fails at its own internal logic.
…that’s literally the logic behind most monster-of-the-week episodes though
Lmao, yeah. It's crazy seeing people on here say things like "It starts to get bad after S5". It starts to get bad as soon as S2 begins. But to be fair, the first season is outrageously good. Like, like lightning in a bottle shit. There's no way they were going to top it even if it hadn't devolved into a standard police procedural. It's obvious they ran out of ideas, they should've started stealing shit from Star Trek TOS and The Twilight Zone. The Myth arc ruined everything. Deep Throat was cool and mysterious and then he died and it just became nonsense, they revealed too much and the scale got too big.
>Mulder believes in the paranormal
>Scully doesn't
Why do autists have so much trouble with this?
Once the main lead go "I need to expand my horizons and move on from the series". You will get it if you keep watching.
>tfw I imagine myself as being the third agent and going around the US with fox and dana solving mysteries
>being the third wheel
>Doggett never tapped that
I feel for the anon who keeps making these threads since he's just finishing S4. The decline already started but it accelerates.
I dunno, I think S4 is pretty clearly the peak along with S3.
When does the show get good?
Frankly I'm bored while watching the show, and I have to consciously focus on it rather than just enjoy it.
Where are you at? It clicked for me about 10 episodes in
Episode 2. If it's 10 episodes in I guess I'll tolerate it for a while longer.
I don't think season 1 is one of the very best seasons, but if you get halfway through it and still aren't enjoying it the show will probably never appeal to you. I suggest you at least watch "Squeeze" and "Darkness Falls" before calling it quits.
k
Episode 2 has been extremely boring so far. I can already tell what the general plot is going to be 15 minutes in (pilot got poisoned by ayy radiation from a UFO or some shit like that). There's nothing intriguing.
The only interesting part of this show would be the government conspiracy, but so far it's been incredibly ham fisted in saying "LOOK THERE'S A CONSPIRACY TO KEEP THIS QUIET".
Read
I agree about ep 2, actually.
The conspiracy (the mytharc) gets fleshed out and it's good for a couple of seasons until they seemed to lose sight of what they wanted to do with it. Kinda like lost.
He's right about the latter half of season 1 being better but episode 2 is great so I think you're just a zoomie homosexual
I retract this statement. I thought episode squeeze was ep 2 but it's ep 3.
As
said, darkness falls is also great.
Other than that I think there are unfortunately few episodes that are up to par with season 2-5.
You should read the episode descriptions and choose one that sounds interesting to you and just watch that. Anything before season 6. Honestly season 1 was kind of boring and watching the good MOTW episodes later will let you know if you actually like the show.
The plots are pretty stupid quite often and they almost never have a stratifying resolution, but its about the atmosphere and interesting story or idea the episode is telling.
once the production moved to california it started downhill slide
That was after season 5, right?
Season 6 still had some bangers though
After season 5. Although it's still watchable imo. Season 3 and 4 was the peak.
I'M SHUTTING DOWN THE X-FILES
>I killed a hooker, I'm reopening the X-FIles because it was a clearly an evil succubus
Is it still good in season 4? I watched it up to season two and I recall it starting to go off the rails then but didn't watch after. Some friends have said from season 3 onward it's bad.
>the episode with krycek fricking an amish alien troony
Kino
I agree
Not following this argument at all. Wtf are you guys even talking about?
ENTER
Anyone's ever read the comics and books?
It doesn't get bad.
You stopped watching after season 6?
I watched every episode, some of them aren't interesting.
>just finished season 4
Then it ended. Don't watch more.
Series 6 is the best.
If it's not filmed in B.C. than it's trash.
Season 5 is great
This
isn't true but season 6 has some gems
I just started watching and this show is really good. 90s television was the best. Twin Peaks, Oz, The X-Files, any others?
