how do i become like you? i have trouble looking at the screen during the heavier episodes of Supernatural. >girl wants to watch a horror movie >teehee im gonna be so scared anon will you protect me?? >begin drinking 60 minutes before she comes over >unfocus my eyes during scary parts so she cant see me looking away >struggle to control my fight or flight instinct whenever the jump scare sound effect hits >90 minutes of suffering like a caged animal being prodded with knives >after the movie have to pretend i didnt just piss myself and actually found it exciting and fun like the guy in picrel
It can't hurt you. You know it's not real. You might feel empathy for the characters and get caught up in the story but you're not sharing their reality. Getting a jolt because you got caught out by a jump scare is a normal reaction but you know that ghost or witch or demon or whatever is just an actor, puppet or cgi.
>You know it's not real
I do but my body doesn't. I go into fight or flight mode. Only with alcohol can I distance myself from what's happening onscreen.
Daybreakers was fricking terrifying, I walked out of the theater and realized my friends had convinced me to waste ten bucks and two hours of the only life I'll ever get watching a moronic disjointed trainwreck. Fricking chills, man.
I dont understand this argument against horror at all. Only pseud 13 year olds would be mad that a movie didnt scare them. You watch horror because you like the genre not because you want to feel like a 3 year old whose mom walked out of the room.
Comedy films have to be funny. The characters in comedy films aren't supposed to find their situation funny, so it's quite different. Horror films only have to present a scenario that would be horrific if you had to experience it. Here the characters really are horrified.

"Horror" as a concept and "scared" as a feeling are not the same thing
thats stupid the best horror movies are ones that are semi scary
If you were in the middle of the woods by yourself, and you had a DVD Player and watched The Strangers, you’d be freaked out.
especially if it was at night and the windows were open, foreal though it was always staring down my dark hallway while the movie was paused that freaked me the frick out
weeeelll im sorta like OP in that movies dont truly scare me but idk lets try >Jacob's Ladder >The Strangers >IT (original) >The Shining >Skinamarink
not scary the whole way through but all of those had moments that really spooked me once upon a time
Jesus man, frick off.
Those fricking antihitlertroon bots will appear if you keep that up. It will start with paulieposting and then bam, transvestites from wwii.
this genuinely terrified me the first time I saw it as an adult, if you can really empathize with the character his situation of being stalked by demons and government agents in his day to day is a terrifying place to be mentally
Damn dop you really not get scared at horror movies? I really pity you, cause getting scared is so much fun. Especially lying on the couch on with your girl under the covers, lights off, snugged up close. That is PEAK atmosphere right there, and I feel bad that you can never and have never experienced that.
you can have a gf (like me) and still not be easily scared by the majority of films, I just find it funny how she gets so worked up to the point of putting her hands in front of her face, Skinamarink got her good

This but i was 11 years old and snuck the secretly rented vhs tape upstairs to watch on my parents' bedroom TV in the dark so i wouldnt get caught if they came home early and genuinely believing it was real found footage.
gee what's the difference between sadness and anger? hmm i dunno it's hard to write down so i guess they're just one thing and let's say that each one is the other and operate based on that buhh
I watched the descent really high and a few of the cave diving scenes scared me..real cave diving videos scare me though. Just the thought of being a few hours into one and you freak out. It's a few hours back out. Frick that.
Just watched it. I like the core idea, but the execution was pretty shit tbh. The film grain is WAY too heavy, and the "fly on the wall" perspective gets old very quickly.
Honestly, a lot of what it does "well" is done just as much and better in various analog horror series up on YouTube. Greylock comes to mind.
Also, what are some good horror films oozing with "eerie" atmospheres? Pic related for an idea of what I mean.
of course not, what are you, 10?
They can have thrill and tension though, but what makes them really interesting is their exploration of dark themes and suffering. That said 90% of them are really corny shit, kinda like metal music, and those are enjoyable in a different way because of how over the top they are
>actually asked local hunters to help them get some realistic kangaroo hunting footage >the hunt lasted several hours, and gradually wore down the filmmakers. According to cinematographer Brian West, "the hunters were getting really drunk and they started to miss, ... It was becoming this orgy of killing and we [the crew] were getting sick of it." Kangaroos hopped about helplessly with gun wounds and trailing intestines. >The crew orchestrated a power failure in order to end the hunt.
You not finding horror movies frightening isn't some sort of flex, you're just outing yourself as a tasteless braindead homosexual that can't conceptualize beyond your own vapid sensory intake. Sitting in the dark watching a movie and feeling nothing it conveys is quite literally the height npc behavior. You might as well be sitting in the dark staring at blank screen.
There's a difference between >no Sarah don't open that door
And your pathetic fear of something on a screen that can't hurt you. You're a homosexual and the fact you think people are "flexing" by not being afraid of a movie just outs you as underage.
>bet you can't name even one horror film that's actually frightening >oh btw my definition of frightening is... NOTHING because I'm so tough and cool at movies haha
The Evil Dead Remake scares me when I watch it alone.
The Ghost and Mr. Chicken
If you were in the middle of the woods by yourself, and you had a DVD Player and watched The Strangers, you’d be freaked out.
okay
Requiem for a Dream
Zoomers are homosexuals who are genuinely scared of images on a screen.

kafkaesque
It's telling that the genuinely scariest moments in films are all from things that aren't technically horror.
I dont understand this argument against horror at all. Only pseud 13 year olds would be mad that a movie didnt scare them. You watch horror because you like the genre not because you want to feel like a 3 year old whose mom walked out of the room.
What is logic comedy films dont have to be funny
"Horror" as a concept and "scared" as a feeling are not the same thing

Jacobs Ladder is pretty spoopy
this genuinely terrified me the first time I saw it as an adult, if you can really empathize with the character his situation of being stalked by demons and government agents in his day to day is a terrifying place to be mentally

Original Blair Witch unironically
This but i was 11 years old and snuck the secretly rented vhs tape upstairs to watch on my parents' bedroom TV in the dark so i wouldnt get caught if they came home early and genuinely believing it was real found footage.
People who say this kind of shit are only revealing themselves as being devoid of imagination.
Basically you're a grown man who's scared of the dark.
Did you really not know that horror is not the same as terror? They specifically are not called terror movies
What's the difference?
i can't even take seriously the idea that you don't know that
gee what's the difference between sadness and anger? hmm i dunno it's hard to write down so i guess they're just one thing and let's say that each one is the other and operate based on that buhh
>take your moronic sister to the party or you're grounded!
What a stupid ass movie lol
Gerald's Game
I watched the descent really high and a few of the cave diving scenes scared me..real cave diving videos scare me though. Just the thought of being a few hours into one and you freak out. It's a few hours back out. Frick that.
I couldn't finish it because I was experiencing sheer terror. Unreal movie. Amazing.
I actually liked this movie. Not so much because it scared me. It kind of put me back in bad childhood memories. It's shot in a weird way.
this, no movie has made me feel fear like I did as a lonely child at night when my parents hadnt come home yet but I still had to go to bed
Just watched it. I like the core idea, but the execution was pretty shit tbh. The film grain is WAY too heavy, and the "fly on the wall" perspective gets old very quickly.

for me it's L'arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat (1895)
The director's cut of Clownhouse is actually scary
of course not, what are you, 10?
They can have thrill and tension though, but what makes them really interesting is their exploration of dark themes and suffering. That said 90% of them are really corny shit, kinda like metal music, and those are enjoyable in a different way because of how over the top they are
Wake in fright. And it’s just an average Aussie day. Aussies are fricked.

The only fear you can get from a movie is the instantly disappearing one from a jumpscare. Adulthood has its downsides.
I win
Body horror is such a scary sub genre
