I remember when this was a more pronounced complaint from boomers, that these characters look like grotesque ADHD morons and that the golden days of good-looking 80s cartoon characters are gone. But I guess over time millenials took over the discourse and this became the norm, nobody even dares mention the fact that these characters are not exactly pretty to look at for a layman from the street. Maybe in 10 years when the current people finally get too old to talkabout cartoons, we'll be seeing people gushing over how good Adventure Tine looked and how atrocious the new gen A property of 2033 looks...

They can call it ugly all they want but the word is funny. They look funny, they're amusing to look at. As opposed to 80s cartoons which looked bland and serious, which these people think makes them respectable. They hate funny looking things because they refuse to acknowledge they're obsessed with things for children.

I hated the old Cartoon Cartoon shows. Still do although not as much. Cartoon Network was best during the early years when it was about showing old cartoons with some original content based on those old cartoons (like Space Coast Coast to Coast). The channel started going downhill when they shifted toward original content and anime.

The difference is that they're b***hing because shitty Hanna-Barbera slop from the 1970s and garbage like Thundercats and Super Friends, objectively bad shows, were being phased out in favor of new cartoons. This is objectively good shows being phased out in favor of garbage. Nobody's lamenting the lack of My Gym Partner is a Monkey or Camp Lazlo.

Lazlo was garbage and Rocko was carried by the Hillenberg/Povenmire/Marsh trio. Kind of like how Groening isn't actually anything without the actual talent to translate the stuff he puts his name on into something worth watching.
