There's a new Gi Joe game coming out meant to ape the success of Shredder's Revenge and it looks like the cheapest shittiest thing you can imagine. They're also apparently not allowed to use the word "terrorist"

wouldn't a "run n' gun" type game make more sense for a GI Joe type game ? especially if you're going for a retro-arcade feel

Are they stupid? JUST PUT GI JOE INTO A FPS OR A OVER THE SHOULDER SHOOTER! It's so easy to make GI Joe work as a video game because it's a toyline. Just make it like the Transformer games. Like you could have Snake Eyes play like a a hack and slash character or have vehicle sections with Ace and Shipwreck. God's sake gimme a Cobra Campaign, it fricking prints money. Hell, I'd take them being putting Destro and Cobra Commander in Fortnite at this point over whatever Hasbro is doing. I guess they're at least making an attempt tho.

This is true, the Joes loved through fists but they need their guns.

        >not making it a 64v64 or a 128x128 battlefield clone where each player can create their own class with incredibly narrow specializations
        >and tons and tons of vehicles ranging from plain old M1 abrams tanks to absolute nutjob vehicles like the trouble bubble and HISS tank
you could have an entire map that takes place within the USS hawke

tbh part of the appeal of GI Joe is the characters too. It's the reason the toys sold, you had Roadblock or Flint beating up Zartan or Firefly with the badass tanks and jets. A multiplayer mode with a create a Joe or Cobra would be soul though especially if they give your character a cheesey ass nickname either than your profile name so you have shit more like Skyranger and Rattlesnake than XxIBangedUrMomxX and SneedlyFeedly

Satan, I was a little boy in the early '90s and remember the original Command & Conquer coming along just in time to scratch my itch for the recently-canceled GI Joe.
The license would dovetail even better with the modern DLC greed: just include realistic US military vehicles and the best-remembered Cobra ones and slowly expand your RTS to include every vehicle (and don't forget Destro's Iron Grenadiers faction, where the Razorback came from).

I know I always expected a beat em up from GI Joe and not a fricking run n gun.
    Are people just moronic?

GI Joe always had It's fair share of brawling but the characters did use guns too.

The game looks like a cheap cash-grab in comparison to TMNT. Gi-Joe has surprisingly a lot of good games despite being bottom of the barrel saturday morning garbage

There was only about ten seconds of actual gameplay in that trailer. Makes me wonder if they weren't confident in what they had and were hoping the animated bits at the start would do the heavy lifting.

Feels like this is definitely the case, yes.

I didn't know that I wanted this, and now you've made me want this terribly, anon

I feel like for really doing a GI Joe game you would basically need multiple game modes. Or maybe have the main game be a run-and-gun, and have sort of minigames to reflect chopping people up as a ninja, or having a dogfight in the Skyranger.

To be honest I might pick it up if it has the same online capabilities as Shredder's Revenge, I've had a lot of fun with that game with my friends online. Still can't beat the new survival mode though.

I do agree it doesn't look as polished though, but maybe when we see more footage it will come across better. I wonder how many characters we'll see.

Clearly they don't understand why people went apeshit for shredder's revenge
Turtles in Time is one of the most well-loved beat em ups in existence, the 80's Turtles theme is maybe the most recognizable thing for kids of the 80s/90s, and the new iterations had completely replaced it.
So when people saw a remade 80's theme introducing a new game like Turtles in Time they freaked the frick out

None of that applies to GI Joe
They didn't even use the theme most would remember: the movie theme

What non-legacy reasons does Hasbro have for keeping GI Joe around? It doesn't seem like a viable property aside from a few nostalgic fans.

It had about 40 years of up and down success(Transformers didn't truly exceed it until about 20 years ago, even with GI Joe bombing in the late 90's), which gave it an evergreen presence in store shelves, like Barbie or Playskool(i.e., stores would always stock it). Even in the infamous"no one wants war toys after 9/11" rumor..they actually did have great sales in the 2000's thanks to the uptick in patriotism(granted a lot of that was the 12'' collector's editions based off real soldiers, not just the Snake Eyes and Cobra Commander ARAH stuff)
Plus it's an in-house brand, they don't need to pay any licensing for it.
