>75% of the Irish support the EU's decision to do frick all about Russia invading Ukraine while America does all the real work >This means they support Ukraine
Um...
I fricking love how, several years and a dozen TV movies in, they still didn't think it was a good idea to improve the fight choreography. None of them sell any of the punches, sword hits, bayonet stabs, etc, at any point in the series. It's fricking glorious. I imagine it must have been a budget/time constraint thing (one take, we're not resetting the pyrotechnics, it's good enough), but it has a real charm to it.
>harper always yells when firing his big ass shotgun musket >at one point the actor is clearly so fricking done with it he just goes "aah" in a normal speaking voice and they leave it in
theres also the time a horse straight up nearly fricking stepped on sean beans head when him and harper were running through the swamp, he could have straight up fricking died lmao
I like it too. Having to imagine the off-scene events is not necessarily a bad thing. Stories should take themselves seriously, but still remember they're stories.
You should just watch the whole series, it's great. But if you really want my own personal opinion on what the best episodes and the worst episodes are: >Best
Sharpe's Eagle
Sharpe's Battle >Worst
Sharpe's Revenge
Sharpe's Justice
Try Sharpe's Gold. It goes full kooky by the end, with Sharpe and his buddies having to fight an Aztec torture god cult. It's fricking moronic, but in a fun way if you're in the mood.
NTA but it kinda is in a way but the overall tone's off as its just Sharpe on a rescue mission to save Patrick a decade (?) after the Napoleonic War ends
Wtf I didn't realize they turned Sharpe into Indiana Jones
NTA but it kinda is in a way but the overall tone's off as its just Sharpe on a rescue mission to save Patrick a decade (?) after the Napoleonic War ends
The reason why the original Wellington and Hogan disappeared (along with Cooper and Tongue) was due to a long hiatus. The producers realized after making Eagle that they had pretty much blown their whole budget on two movies with a bunch more to go. They had already had a costly delay when the original Sharpe, Paul McGann, broke his foot and had to be recast with Bean. So they moved production to Ukraine and then Turkey, taking about a year. Some of the cast like Brian Cox etc couldn't wait around that long and had to move onto other projects.
Anyone interested in the story of making the Sharpe series should look up Jason Salkey's stuff. He played Harris and built up a massive archive of photos and home videos. He used to hock them around Sharpe conventions and so on.
Sharpes Gold is way over hated. It's dumb and bad in the worldbuilding sense, but it's still fun and has a top tier Sharpe waifu in it.
I'd much rather rewatch gold than rewatch Sharpe getting cucked and robbed by his incredibly stupid and awful wife (the one related to Simmerson) later on. The episodes set in Britain I found a bit dry too compared to the better episodes. Gold is schlock kino in comparison.
Always thought there was great potential for a sequel there. Sharpe's Daughter or something.

Sean Bean going back to Spain when he gets a letter about his daughter and having to organize a defence against bandits in the aftermath of everything while dealing with guilt over not ever having sought out his daughter could be neat though. Have him more as a commander and a leader than fighting on the front lines. Have the daughter have decidedly mixed feelings about him, and only really start to soften when he opens up about her mother.

I don't hate it it would just be so wrong in the sense that sharpe would immediately abandon the mission and get his daughter out of their hell, he'd hog tie her to his horse and ride all the way to the port of marsie to get her out, I just don't see how that would work

Hell that'd be a good opening. When Sharpe arrives tries that at first and his daughter tells him in no uncertain terms that she'll kill him first chance she gets if he drags her away from her home, lands and workers. This is Sharpe and Maria's daughter, so she's no doubt profoundly headstrong, cares deeply for the people working for her, and the idea of running from a fight and leaving others to their fates sits as well with her as a cup of cold poison.

no, no my initial thought that sharpe would come and immediately insist she is coming with him back to england could work, its not a terrible idea if bernard did it right
That was probably the best use of the ending theme.
> Though I may travel far from Spain > A part of me shall still remain, > For you are with me night and day > and Over the hills and far away > O'er the hills and o'er the main > Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain > King George commands and we obey > Over the hills and far away
It's a shame they changed Wellington's actor. The guy they got for the rest of the series was fine, but he felt a little more lighthearted than this guy.
And it's a shame Hogan vanished too. I grew to like his various replacements, but he was a fun character to just suddenly lose.
The sequels had lots of dumb ideas. Killing off Lucille really pissed me off. Most of the plotline, especially all the stuff involving Dodd, actually comes from the prequel novels. So the whole thing feels off.
the two India episodes were pretty mid but Simmerson's anime redemption arc was kino and his parting with Sharpe was genuinely touching and a great note to end the series on

That's pretty much all the actor who played Harris does, desperately hanging on to the fact he was a secondary character in a relatively popular TV show 30 years ago.
Yeah it's kinda sad, but I guess it pays the bills. I remember hearing about these massive piles of VHS tapes he had with hours of boring BTS footage that he was trying to hock off.
