Why does original voice actors getting screwed seem to be a trend lately?

      Anonymous

Is not really a trend, more of how it works normally. We see the Simpson voice actors or the big Hollywood animated voices and assume that is the norm but in reality voice actors are second class citizens in their field.

Why not give other aspiring voice actors a chance

characters having consistent voice actors is a good thing
        Japan figured this out
if you want to give new voice actors work, make new characters

Japan le good even tho they will just outright write off a character or cancel a show if the voice actor dies

that's the based thing to do

It creates all sorts of awkward situations, like how May from Pokemon's voice actress retired, so she was the only major character who wasn't allowed to have a proper send-off in the final season.

        Anonymous

I'll answer your question with another, why is it than "giving other aspiring actors a chance" only comes up when we talks about voice actors and not Hollywood stars? Nobody goes around saying Daniel Craig should stop being Bond or Hugh Jackman should let another guy be Wolverine. People expect actors to reprise their roles constantly but when it comes to voices suddenly is a thing that where you can be replace and people don't see much problem about it.

          Anonymous

I'll be blunt and just say it's far easier to replace someone through a cartoon because the cartoons characters design stays the same even after a voice actor is replaced. Hollywood stars cannot (or shouldn't) be replaced unless you have a 1:1 replacement of the actor.

that's the based thing to do
I'm still slightly salty with old man gengai getting replaced in Gintama, should've just written him out

Old Japanese voice actor who was 3783838 years old dies of old age, quick we need to cancel the show!

People said that for years, wtf are you talking about? You picked the worst possible example. Bond has been replaced like 5 times already.

He wasn't the original voice actor to begin with.

        Anonymous

true, but he's been the definitive voice since 2005 (2004 if we count when recording actually started)
DMC1 came out in 2001 so he's been the voice for 86% of the franchise's lifetime

In video games it's because they joined the union and japanese studios aren't going to deal with that. There was also Bayonetta's VA getting to wienery with her payments.

Adi Shankar is full of shit, I'm amazed idiots still want to see him as some kind of nerd culture messiah. I mean something like this, he'll go on about how "it's done for fans" and all that shit, but then it turns out that the Western face of the character wasn't even asked to reprise his role.

        >but then it turns out that the Western face of the character wasn't even asked to reprise his role.
it's even more egregious than that, DMC is an English-language series first, the Japanese is a dub and there wasn't even a Japanese cast until DMC4
so they're not bringing back *the* face of the character

capcom replaces voice actors all the time, look at the resident evil games

      Anonymous

Devil May Cry was maintaining some consistency since DMC3, it wasn't quite like RE where voice actors can't last for more than two releases at best. When Capcom finds someone they can work with and fans like it without going overbudget then Capcom are likely to keep them, the only thing Capcom doesn't like are unionized VAs.

Resident Evil itself would've kept DC Douglas as Wesker in REmake 4, literally the only who would've come back, had him not acted like a fool by breaking NDA by leaking a Wesker concept art just to impress some chick in a podcast 1 full year before REmake 4 was announced.

Ada and Clarie both had the same voice actors for over a decade and both were unceremoniously replaced, this is standard pratice for capcom

Union matter, did you even read the post?

          Anonymous

Claire's case was the exact matter regarding budget that Capcom hates as much as unions. Her time as Claire was warranting a contract renewal with a fee increase and Capcom wanted no part in that. Again, if you work for pennies and aren't part of a union Capcom is very likely to keep you, like the small timer still voicing Juri in Street Fighter.

Netflix doesn't want to adapt a Japanese franchise and cast a white VA as the lead. We saw this with Netflix's Cowboy Bebop.
I hope that if this is the case, they at least cast someone with Japanese heritage this time, and not an elderly Korean-American.

I would never expect a video game VA to be brought back to a cartoon.
