honestly, a huge quantity of old tv, even stuff that was highly-regarded at the time, is just bad, and also kind of naive and lacks grounding in reality or research
films as a whole were much more sophisticated at narrative storytelling from the 50s up until the late 90s. a good point of comparison here is Hill Street Blues vs. The Shield; a lot of the actors do a fine job in HSB, there are individual episodes that work well and are timeless, but a lot of it is hokey and reflects a child's idea of what crime is like, or what dealing with personal issues or adult relationships are like. Most throughlines are unimportant and don't effectively build on each other—just stuff that happens, and then never gets brought up again.
old-school tv always did comedy well, though, even going back to the earliest days. If you can't enjoy Amos & Andy, for example, you have no soul
