correct. Breaking bad is the most overrated boring slop out there. Everything past the first season is a fricking SLOG to get through and none of the characters really get explored further than they do in the first season other than hank. It feels to me like the first season was a passion project and then as the show got popular they just kind of rolled with it instead of having a mapped out story.
It's an incredible show in many ways, honestly. You have to give it credit for the shit it did with pacing, twists and turns, tension over seasons, building viewer engagement and keeping millions watching. Genuinely moved the artform of TV forward in those regards.
The criticisms also all apply tho imo. It's extremely shallow, comic book, facile. It's a rollercoaster ride.

My main issue with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, and a lot of TV for that matter, is the writing isn't deterministic.
TV shows don't usually start with the whole plotline written out. It just seems cobbled together, and any whim or idea can steer them in whatever stupid direction they want.
When I'm watching those shows, sometimes I just sit back and realize how stupid and nonsensical the situations are.

JL Unlimited was the pinnacle of the DCAU from a writing standpoint imo. The original 40s era art style for Batman TAS can’t be beat however.
