God fricking damn it
It fricking did. Full Where my evil is law/10 plus primal dinosaurs. And now the unicorns have to get back to the past.
Almost everything from the previous nine episodes did not matter and many things were not addressed, like what the characters in OP were doing or their motivations for doing so.
>Evil got into the cosmic realm proper via Alfie/Seng >Merged with cosmic realm and is starting to rape all of space/time. >Splits Emma and Melinda apart, Throws Emma back to her home world. >Emma has a schizo episode and is trying to find a way back. They now have dragons, dinosaurs, modern day, steampunk, aliens and all that shit running around at the same time. >Say they gotta deal with it and beat da evil / save Melinda's mom
Season End.
What an absurd fricking thing to say
They're characters WHOSE characters were heavily teased with no payoff
June and Otto weren't background comic relief. The story makes them out to be important TO the story before just suddenly doing a 180 and throwing them out of the window
I wasn't expecting anything grand but with the amount of screentime the fox took up and hints that Otto knows something only to rush over it probably wasn't best the choice considering it was 10 episode season that might get a s2. If anything it feels unnecessary.
Then he should have made the plot a lot less "heavy". Make it more like an '80s super-team cartoon where the plot of the week is more important than anything else.
To be fair this was how Samurai Jack and Primal sort of worked (Primal in at least season 1) where the protagonists kind of just fight enemies or monsters of the week.
just finished it and I kinda liked it but the plot was convoluted as shit. What confused me the most was why did they need to even reincarnate in the first place? Couldn't they just use their original bodies to fight the evil since it seems like they don't age? was the fox actually dead, and why did it have to be a fox lady?
And it would follow that Merlin's daughter Melinda doesn't age normally as well. So Seng is the only person unanswered for but he has access to the biggest bullshit in the story, the cosmic realm.
>it seems like they don't age
On a related note, the timeline of the elvish kingdom confused me. The way it was written, it was as though, from their perspective, it'd been a few decades tops since they fell into ruin, but it would've had to have been at least a thousand years considering it took place during the Warriors original lives. Even if the elves just age that slowly, the sense of time wasn't properly conveyed.
I'm pretty sure by the time the Unbroken Line was repaired, it'd been broken just as long as it wasn't.
The Evil picks hosts. Fox lady was nine tail fox from the cosmic realm, it was how the evil initially escaped. Fox is defeated at Otto's factory, so the Evil finds a new host. Merlin is the new host but because the Evil's "greatest tool is deception", he pins Otto as the Evil as he was the likeliest target due to proximity, to lure the others into a trap. Once they defeat Merlin, the evil goes back into the cosmic realm, where it chooses Morgana as the new host.
This is like the anti lore show, nothing matters because everything gets contradicted.
Morgana was the first and only host, what are you talking about, we see her in the past being engulf by the magic flames and being turn into the evil.?
He's been trying to push his autistic understanding of the show for awhile now, despite there being nothing to indicate in the show that Otto or the fox are hosts for the evil.
There are like two scenes where Otto is a shadowy figure doing evil shit before he's introduced. They lampshade the hell that he's evil, he is evil, and they not making sense isn't an epic twist it's just dumb.
We might be looking at some time loop shenanigans.
Otto was never evil, but his robot was possessed and was working with the fox leading her to think she was working with Otto. How the evil got into one of Otto's robots is a different story. The feels like a plot thread that the writers are hoping we'll just forget and then bring it back as a big plot twist, BUT it's a big hole in the story that naturally makes us want answers.
>leading her to think she was working with Otto
Possibly, we do see that Otto is aware of her presence and even sold her out. It felt like a waste to even set up those scenes where he's watching unicorn through the cameras, paying the old guy, mining in the jungle for him to die an episode later and to not elaborate on it. >and they not making sense isn't an epic twist it's just dumb
No shit, it wasn't thought out it very well but neither are your posts.
>even sold her out.
Otto didn't sell her out, the robot did. Everything suggests that he is 100% innocent and his mining woke up the evil early causing it to take over a robot and try to be proactive in this incarnation.
U wot >A man paid off by someone wearing Otto's gloves tells the police where June is hiding out >Dashwood just happens to show up moments later and offer to take care of the cleanup so the police are free to pursue her
Even if there was some kind of plot twist like Dashwood going rogue, there's no reason whatsoever for the person who hired the sailor guy to to be showing those gloves to the viewer. Also why would June run straight to Otto's headquarters after exclaiming that she'd been betrayed unless he was the sole likely suspect?
>Ur posts r bad for noticing a forgotten plot thread
Or gendy should have thrown out the footage teeing up an evil Otto. Your idea the robot is akkktually the evil one is 100% headcanon
>Chad Charlie G

Is he tho? Genndy's got another season of Primal in the works and a couple of movies too
Assuming Eric July is the Boxtown guy he's being forced to beg random internet people for money
And failing
Tell me how that's doing better by a non-deranged metric again?
It's comics which is related to this board. Eric July made millions off his comic and put both industries to shame. Meanwhile Genndy isn't making shit off his girly cartoon.
Genndy's worth millions too, lol. And beyond his personal worth the movies he's directed have made HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars, lol
You really can't compare what, one issue of that dude's comic to numerous movies and tv shows
Anon, indie comics becoming mainstream successes isn't an unheard of. Just look at Spawn, The Walking Dead, fricking Ninja Turtles.
If anything, Rippaverse is comparatively since it's a shared universe with one issue.
I like the show but goddamn is the plot just all over the place. Also like you said, the payoff of these two characters is virtually nonexistent despite their prominence and teasing.
There's a critical point where you snap out of the bait because it's just gotten too fricking moronic and it just becomes an outright joke
And you just crossed it
I honestly don't even get the motivation or what exactly is "The Evil". Like, it's just pure magic that became sentiant or something? And it just wants to destroy shit and rule space time just because? i'm really god damn confused.
Best I can guess it's just supposed to be primal and animalistic, misunderstood by Merlin and co. and not "evil" per se. And the real conflict was supposed to be revealed as Merlin/melindas mistake of creating it and now containing it. In the most expedient but not best way. >All that undermined by it having agents or avatars like the fox and what seemed like a higher plan that never paid off
The kind of thing that edred should have found out about and had a problem with >I abandon my people to fix your mistake!
But he never did and still doesn't know dick all about Morgan.
It should have been a setup for Emma to approach this in "another way" and that reveal Morgan/give her a moment of control and hope for there being an end to the cycle. Instead we got samurai jack dinosaur planet and the consequences never being the same.
>The kind of thing that edred should have found out about and had a problem with
This bothered me, it's implied Edred had no idea when Emmalinda asked him if he knew about her mother after Copernicus is broken.
More info should be given about melinda and edred's background. Like yeah we saw how they met but how did they actually fall in love? How did they meet seng? I'm hoping for a season 2 so any loose ends can be tied, there's a really good show behind all of the cluttered shit
Bro I really thought Edred ruminating on their relationship in ep 9 was going to lead to him and Emma having a sort of heart-to-heart where he apologizes and Emma starts to understand why he and Melinda fell in love but uhh we did not get that lmao
Exactly like there should've been a conversation and edred asking things like "dude, do you want to be with me or not?". Give that shit a little angst and hint that they won't be together and would rather be good friends or something
Again I don't understand why the finale also didn't get a 40 minute runtime. First half is Emma's adventures trying to find a way back and the second half is cosmic realm stuff.
Probably a mix of genndy not knowing how to write endings and being rushed, so the pacing was weird af. Instead of 10 episodes they should've done at least 15
No, if it's a 10 episode season he should've known to scale back instead of trying to cram as much as he could.
Exactly like there should've been a conversation and edred asking things like "dude, do you want to be with me or not?". Give that shit a little angst and hint that they won't be together and would rather be good friends or something
I think it was intended to be left open to continue the love triangle in the future but it's unsatisfying because Edred and Melinda hardly interact, when they do she pushes him away.
I don't get why the elves needed an episode of such an odd length. It wasn't actually double-length; it was only ten minutes longer than other episodes. It wasn't at the halfway-point or at the ending as a marker of a special episode; it was episode 7 out of ten episodes. It feels sloppy. I wonder if it's another editing frick-up. They couldn't decide which parts to cut to make the episode match the timeslot, so they went "oh well" and left it as it was.
It feels like they'll be coming back. There was so much build up for each of them, and then they get one-shot or die offscreen like your average monster-of-the-week fodder and nothing they'd done is at all relevant after a certain point. They just feel like characters that very well should come back, but likely won't.
Well they threw the whole world away, so you're not wrong. A season 2 and "anything could happen" because nothing mattered. Edred could marry a dinosaur s2e1 thanks to a time wipe to 65 years in the future and it'd have as much foundation as anything else they'd do going forward.
To be fair, I'd ASSUME that the plot of the show would be fixing reality like Samurai Jack....frankly they probably should've started with that premise. However I'm doubtful because Genndy has really shown how he gives zero fricks about telling a longform story. I'd be reasonable that Winston, Emma, and Eddred would want to right the timestream because they lost their families in this warp but who knows if Genndy gives a singular frick or thought towards that.
Emma, who saw her parents all of 5 minutes prior, having no reaction to them being lost in time or just killed by dinosaurs should give you a clue into how much gendy is paying attention. The one and done approach in a lot of this is fullbore autism. In his head I'm sure he thinks the dad ugly crying in the beginning checked the "Emma and her parents love each other very much" box and that it carries over to sequences like the ending and means he doesn't have to show her react to her parents possible death because she's already pla ning on fixing everything(/gendy forgot humans would care about something like that)
LoK was as bad as your tastes and Unicorns doesn't even pass the hekkin Bechtel test. One of the good things about genndy is he doesn't do currentyear things in his shows.
Ship gays bother me so much ,like do you guys not have friends or ever had a same sex hug between anyone ?it doesn't mean your dating or want to frick it's normal Id give my friends hugs and shit all the time I'd even hold their hands in school as we walked to their gfs class as a goof to make them jealous, shit like this is normal.

Genndy basically said internal yuri, or basically he's not shipping Edred or Winston with either of them so they need to get over it or find new gfs
he said emmalinda's in a place where she's prioritizing figuring herself out over choosing one of them and currently feels like she's outgrowing them, he didn't actually say the love triangle is over. it's just in a spot where neither guy is winning.
Genndy also said the fox was important and had an arc, he doesn't know he forgot Emma and Winston are together and edred had his chudjack Satan pose where he realizes melinda's gone bro. Next week who knows what he'll say about the show since there was no movement whatsoever in the "love triangle" all season.

>I'll just throw shit at the wall and if people care then we'll make more and if people don't like it well that's showbiz... Anyway onto Primal season 3 and whatever bull shit I come up with next
Does anyone else in the industry have this kind of power?
Here's my problem with Unicorn
If June Way is the Evil, it proves that it can form a personality and sapience but at the end, its personality is utterly gone in favor of mindless, mute, blobbish humanoids which is rather fricking lame
"then why isn't that what you animated" needs to be the follow-up to everything he said in the last interview and anything he tries to say in the future ones. Like was the "cool I'm unemployed!" Scene over tea and crumpets where debris crushes that guys steam car so goddamn important versus Melinda and Edred breaking up or Emma pausing her engagement if we're to believe rubbing Winston's red rocket as their final interaction doesn't mean they are and always were together.
It really feels like he's writing a story for UWE now only loosely tied to what was actually put out. None of what he's said happens happened. Didn't he lie and/or stretch the truth to a comical degree about what June was to the story in a mid run interview too?
That's giving Genndy too much credit, I think he genuinely fricked up here. There are so many scenes that on their own work fine but together its a mess and it's disappointing.
Why the frick are random posts of mine being deleted? I’d just comment observations without breaking rules and they disappear, no warning or bans though, so I guess it’s just a janny.
Anyways, why did the marketing focus so heavily on Genndy being the director? You saw hints of it with Primal’s advertising, but with UWE it was blatant as frick.
The ads told you nothing about the show and instead focused on how it was made by Genndy, and Genndy made other shows you like!
I guess I shouldn’t have expected much when the crux of the ads were >FROM VISIONARY GENNDY TARTAKOVSKY, DIRECTOR OF SAMURAI JACK AND PRIMAL, AWARD WINNING DIRECTOR GENNDY TARTOKOVSKY, DID WE MENTION GENNDY TARTOKOVSKY WAS DIRECTING? COMES: GENNDY TARTAKOVSKY’S UNICORN WARRIORS ETERNAL (HE MADE SAMURAI JACK AND PRIMAL)
The show would have to have been different/better. Same premise with a focus on fantasy, adventure, and American "moe" through the Popeye designs instead of melodrama and mysteryboxes. The show not being a cute girlshow adventure is what likely got it shunted to adult swim so late into development in the first place. Even if you thought it was still going to be good, it isn't the kid show likely promised.
so how did it end? I dropped it somewhere in the middle

He's not a good animator or writer
>He’s a fantastic animator

>The same show happens but with 120 more minutes of LEELOOOOOLEEELLOLLLOOOOOOLEEEEEELOOOOOO squealing kids and other ebin gendy™ cutaway gags
No, if it's a 10 episode season he should've known to scale back instead of trying to cram as much as he could.
Nimona beat the shit out of this and had gay content to boot. Genndy is in tatters.
It feels like they'll be coming back. There was so much build up for each of them, and then they get one-shot or die offscreen like your average monster-of-the-week fodder and nothing they'd done is at all relevant after a certain point. They just feel like characters that very well should come back, but likely won't.
This show throws shit away constantly, I have a hard time believing it’ll deliver on anything if there’s a season 2
In his head I'm sure he thinks the dad ugly crying in the beginning checked the "Emma and her parents love each other very much" box and that it carries over to sequences like the ending and means he doesn't have to show her react to her parents possible death because she's already pla ning on fixing everything(/gendy forgot humans would care about something like that)
>edred marries fang
Otto's head has the hair of a skunk. or wolf?
Whatever do you mean?
Fox lady was a servant then stopped serving her purpose so she got killed off.. and was no longer any use to the EVIL.
if there is another season then I want emma and melinda to be end game, go full lesbian
That kinda already happened
LoK was as bad as your tastes and Unicorns doesn't even pass the hekkin Bechtel test. One of the good things about genndy is he doesn't do currentyear things in his shows.
also edred/winston
would be based if that was happening at the same time
Melinda looked like she wanted to devour Emma's luscious lips but chickened out and went for the hug instead.
quads for victorian era lesbian awakening
I thought this was really cute tbh and I liked how emma was sticking up for melinda in ep 7
best kind of awakening
Ship gays bother me so much ,like do you guys not have friends or ever had a same sex hug between anyone ?it doesn't mean your dating or want to frick it's normal Id give my friends hugs and shit all the time I'd even hold their hands in school as we walked to their gfs class as a goof to make them jealous, shit like this is normal.
I bet you gave them friendly tongue kisses too.
you sound like someone who is not old enough to even be here
based yuri shipper genndy
I wouldn't take it too seriously, they're just having fun with it.
This isn't just fun for us. It's not fair that Nimona has gay leads and this show doesn't. Genndy needs to realize it's 2023.
You'll be okay, bud.
With ND Stevenson I will be.
Just watch nimona then, read it even.
I've done that several times. I want Genndy to take notes and make something like this.
Take notes on suicide and follow through
What's so wrong about having gay leads? It's refreshing to see them after so many straights and lesbians.
Nothing but you're not getting that with Genndy I wouldn't get so hung up on it
Genndy is a moron then
Go cry about it on Twitter homosexual
I want my gay representation
You represent yourself
Why do you need representation(pandering) it's always done poorly which is why me also being a gay man I never liked it ,gay guys are just guys that like guys there's nothing more or less than that but it's always made so complicated in media and it's tiring at this point.
Just stop.
anon it's not serious nobody really thinks emma/melinda can happen lmao
he said emmalinda's in a place where she's prioritizing figuring herself out over choosing one of them and currently feels like she's outgrowing them, he didn't actually say the love triangle is over. it's just in a spot where neither guy is winning.
Genndy basically said internal yuri, or basically he's not shipping Edred or Winston with either of them so they need to get over it or find new gfs
Genndy also said the fox was important and had an arc, he doesn't know he forgot Emma and Winston are together and edred had his chudjack Satan pose where he realizes melinda's gone bro. Next week who knows what he'll say about the show since there was no movement whatsoever in the "love triangle" all season.
i liked the hug a lot. it's so simple yet it's full of love and acceptance for each other. shipgays annoy me cause it's actually really well done as a moment of meaningful friendship
again you're seeing a threat where there isn't any. there's no logical way for emma/melinda to happen.
I agree that it's likely not going to happen but
>UWE
>logical
Were they rushed?
or is this gonna be retcon by some bullshit magic
I think that isn't in the online version or something. Would be funny if they rolled with it though.
Did they really broadcast a production cut of the finale with internal use markers over scenes when it played on [AS]? What the absolute frick, lmao.
the finale was full of more errors than usual lmao, at one point edred is wearing a shirt again but it's colored blue
>I'll just throw shit at the wall and if people care then we'll make more and if people don't like it well that's showbiz... Anyway onto Primal season 3 and whatever bull shit I come up with next
Does anyone else in the industry have this kind of power?
Is there anyone else with as much success and has been around as long? Craig and Lauren?
>stuck doing reboots
>can't do the ideas they want even after all these years
Genndy wields some dark Russian magic
The filenames thread is making fun of UWE and is right, I can't unsee toot braunstien
nah that's a good one, legit made me chuckle
I laffed
Here's my problem with Unicorn
If June Way is the Evil, it proves that it can form a personality and sapience but at the end, its personality is utterly gone in favor of mindless, mute, blobbish humanoids which is rather fricking lame
I don't know if June is the Evil or if it like, gave her power in exchange for working for it. I hope Genndy does another AMA soon.
What make sense?
Nothing in this show makes any sense
Nimona is so much better after bearing through unicorn.
Put it in your blog
I'm convinced this was a test with AI
That's an insult to AI
That's giving Genndy too much credit, I think he genuinely fricked up here. There are so many scenes that on their own work fine but together its a mess and it's disappointing.
Genndy disappointed… He should look into rounding up a full writing staff.
This is him with a full writing staff lol. He needs to retire.
I guess they didn't really know how to market a show with such an off direction. the marketing made it look way more serious.
I guess I shouldn’t have expected much when the crux of the ads were
>FROM VISIONARY GENNDY TARTAKOVSKY, DIRECTOR OF SAMURAI JACK AND PRIMAL, AWARD WINNING DIRECTOR GENNDY TARTOKOVSKY, DID WE MENTION GENNDY TARTOKOVSKY WAS DIRECTING? COMES: GENNDY TARTAKOVSKY’S UNICORN WARRIORS ETERNAL (HE MADE SAMURAI JACK AND PRIMAL)
I wonder if it it would have been marketed differently had it stayed on CN.
