Guardia of the Galaxy set up marvel for failure even if it was successful. It set in stone the marvel "jokes per minute" method of film makiand convinced them that any character would be successful. Idiots here still parrot that when you tell them whatever obscure character they're convinced would be a billion dollar movie.

It's funny looking through the list of star wars games, like you have a ton of games coming out every year from the 80's all the way up until Disney gets the IP, then it just falls off a cliff. Disney should have sued EA over the Battlefront flop, that game should have made a few billion dollars on its own.

Also their publishing has been shit too, I don't think there's been a single Star Wars book under Disney that's received any kind of acclaim. They've had a few decent comic books but those aren't as relevant as they once were and it seems like they're starting to suck like the rest of the Disney canon.

Iger was the one who pushed this garbage """CONTENT IS KING""" mentality and bought up half of Hollywood for Disney in the fricking first place. Now that everything he bought has been thoroughly ruined I guess he has to backtrack.

Maybe movies could stop having $300 million budgets a piece but that isn't gonna happen.

      Anonymous

Iger singlehandedly ruined the company and somehow was able to get away with blaming it all on his patsy Chapek. Michael Eisner was right, Bob Iger does not have a creative bone in his body and is completely incapable of running a business like Disney.

        Anonymous

This, he basically ran a Ponzi scheme/shitcoin where they bought tons of shit that was succeeding and did nothing so they had all time best quarterly gains, but are so and creatively they couldn’t plan for what’s next, and tried to offset it on Chapek when it collapsed to blame on him. In other words demolishing the brand integrity and sustainability for short gains
Iger would work as a financial second in command where a creative CEO like Eisner is reigned in a bit with realistic financials. That’s what Eisner had the first half of his reign and why it worked out. I get himself is so uncreative he can’t run this company or compete with others when they get good

you don't know what you're talking about - ceos aren't some all powerful dictators who can do whatever they want. the board keeps them in check.
Disney was literally a cash rich behemoth in a market full of minnows - they would've been moronic to not use their money to buy everything up.
If Apple did that in the early 2000s they would've been globally relevant and not just an american only success story.
Expand or die slowly as ppl get bored of what you make is the only choice at that scale.

It's very "American" in form. Europeans are used to b***hing about problems and then waiting around for a politician to announce a new initiative, which will have the goal of appointing a board. The board's goal will be to figure out the best form a solution to the issue could take and then seek out people who they'll pay to sit in a room for a month to debate about the efficacy and cost of implementing a solution to the issue. Once they've finished their debate they'll turnover they decision to the board, which will then go to the nation's government and give them an 8 hour presentation about how the only way anything could be done is if they first let in another wave of economic migrants, otherwise any solution will fail miserably.
Americans will just grab a gun and go try to solve the problem. Efficiency or cost-effectiveness be damned.
The classic, stereotypical American mentality is; Shoot first, ask questions later, if at all.
The classic, stereotypical Euros mentality is; Would it be racist if we put a bullet into this gun?

For a long while Episode 9 was claimed to have a budget of $275 million and made $1 billion at the worldwide box office. People could see the Star Wars movies were underperforming but Kennedy and her supporters were claiming it made a profit publicly. "Sure Solo bombed, but Rise did well" would be the argument

There was also the fact that Indy 5 was in pre-production at the time Episode 9 was released. Supposedly Kennedy was allowed to stay on till Indiana Jones 5 releases. But now two things happened

      >Forbes reported Episode 9 had a budget of $416 million before marketing costs are factored in; even if the marketing was at its lowest, $100 million, that means they just barely broke even.
      >Indy 5 did so badly at the box office that people believe it may overtake John Carter as the most losses for a film

They probably wanted Kennedy taken down for a disaster that she and her crowd can't make excuses for

Indy 5 would have done much better if it weren't for Crystal Skull. Even if 4 was decent, it used up the novelty of bringing back an old character and franchise. I was with friends when 5 was announced and we just collectively scoffed and rolled our eyes. All fans of the original trilogy and not one of us cared about this meaningless cash grab, I wouldn't have seen it even if the reviews were amazing.

my fault it was jumbled, meant how else did he get Indy 5 made when 4 failed so bad and no one demanded it

Indy 4 was $185 million budget with a $790 million box office. People didn't like the movie, but it still made money. It was likely that Iger saw how well Force Awakens did in spite of the complaining about the Prequels and gave the greenlight for Indy 5 to be made. Remember, Disney first officially announced it in 2016 with intent to release in 2019, so they definitely thought fans would forgive 4

What ended up happening since is Lucasfilm kept doing bad decision after bad decision to the point where the audience, not just the fans, don't trust them. Add to that the negative reaction toward Disney that's been happening since last year and the Cannes release + overwhelmingly negative reviews released a month before the full premiere and it's no wonder audiences stayed away.

But there's another thing that happened
          >they hired a producer
          >producer gave up a exec producer gig at Apple+ because she assumed this Star Wars gig might be better
          >As she's preparing to move to the UK they call her up and say they don't need her anymore

          >They offer her $5000 and argue they never had an agreement with her
          >Now she's suing them

Another thing is the strangeness where they showed a trailer at Celebration but didn't bother to release it. Even leakers didn't give a shit enough to release it until Indy 5 was doing badly

      >Disney was going to pivot to Tron
Tron casting proves this is a lie.

Good. Frick Rey, the worst character in Star Wars history. Would literally take a film about Jar Jar over anything with her in it.

Well no surprise for Star Wars since it still has to make a profit after 10 years and the phase 4 of Marvel and what seems the phase 5 sucked and sucks they need to rethink their woke shit if they want the infinity war money

They're literally incapable of rethinking the woke shit because their rank and file workers and even most of the management EARNESTLY BELIEVE the woke shit is the way forward. They all drank their own kool aid, watched and believed their own homoglobo propaganda, and got hoist by their own petard. The organization is now a cult and it cannot be reformed. The only way to save this IP would be to liquidate the company and sell it all off to the highest bidder.

You joke but I bet they could throw enough money at Zimeckis and make a Disney Back to the Future, now with a black Marty and female Doc Brown.
