These kind of 80s nuke doomerisms are kind of weird in retrospect.

Even if every single nuke in the world went off, each hitting their own unique target with 0 percent failure rate, there would still be hundreds of cities with +50,000 population unaffected. The idea that nukes could cause the end of humanity, let alone the world, is not true.

Not a real thing. Over 1000 nukes have been detonated in tests without causing a noticeable spike in radiation deaths.

          >1000 nukes have been detonated in controlled, isolated environments and not a single person has been harmed
Maybe that's because they were detonated in controlled, isolated environments? I think the only people who have ever been affected by nuclear testing were those aboriginals that had never seen civilization before who had their hunting grounds nuked, and even then, they were smart enough to recognize that something was poisoning the water and killing all the animals, so they just moved on.

It woulda. Notice how they don’t get radiation poisoning until AFTER they stop hiding under the door and drink water that has been contaminated by fallout. Which, they wouldn’t have done if they had drunk the under the door water stash they were supposed to have stocked for hiding under the door with

I'd agree that that's what primarily did them in. Especially since they'd be frequently be taking in radioactive material from a source where it's likely gathering and building up.

All totally fair points, though one has to wonder how well an actual lean-in would really work in practice. I remember it not doing shit in Threads(though that one was very hastily made and admittedly incomplete).

Yeah but it would kill tens of millions of people and set humanity back 100 years. The fact a nuclear war isn't capable of murdering all of us just means we're so weak we can't even end ourselves even if we try. The 25% of the population that survives has miserable next 50 years ahead of them.

I doubt it would set humanity as a whole back 100 years.
Of course, it would depend on what gets hit.
If Taiwan or some other major microchip manufacturer got hit, then yeah.
But if it was something between only two powers, like Nato and Russia or India and Pakistan, then despite tons of human suffering, I'd say humanity as a whole would keep on trucking along.

That they were dying of radiation poisoning? I’m sure even if he had a suspicion, he was so far into his forcible denial that he might as well have not known. There’s a reason why his personal motto is that modified line from Charge of the Light Brigade.

But also, I doubt that little pamphlet of his actually spelled out what radiation sickness exactly was, or its symptoms. Just the cut and dry “practical advice” on how to avoid it.
