Tay tay could preform the exorcism during an intermission while executing a costume change, and simultaneously drinking a Diet Pepsi.

It's weird. Part of what made the movie so good was that Blatty was a devout Catholic and Friedkin was an agnostic israeli man who was more fascinated by the concepts of faith, demons, the afterlife etc.
The movie is loved by people of all religions and creeds because it uses Catholicism as the lens to examine the importance of faith in general.
It didn't even comment on other religions in any significant way.
It's like the scene is apologizing for something the first film never actually did.

It's honestly disrespectful to what the original meant to people of different religions to be honest. The original film's legacy involved how it inspired generations of film makers to make films of a similar nature based on their own faiths or the myths of their own cultures.
Almost like real religious tolerance would involve mature adults of all creeds to be able to relate to it's core theme of faith regardless of the religion shown

    >after they shelled out $400 million for "Franchise"
Who said it was a franchise? It got a couple money grubbing sequels that never took off anywhere near the original's level, how the frick is that a "franchise"?

There were two sequels, one in 1977 and one in 1990, and two prequels, in 2004 and 2005, (it was supposed to be one but wound up with two different directors cuts with a bunch of different actors), and a TV show from 2016-2017 that had Geena Davis in it.

Yup, it failed because of Taylor Swift. Nothing to do at all with casting decisions. Yup, demographics had nothing to do with it. Tay Tay did it all.
