Source material is meant to sort of deconstruct the silliness of capeshit, and the movie is about as good as it ever could have gotten. I even support the new ending.

I don't think the movie is good.The comic book is meant to deconstruct and show a raw interpretation of the world with masked heroes and a more realistic demigod Superman and it works in that medium but the movie still feels like stupid capeshit with cringe dialogues (most of the actors are terrible and everything feels forced and poorly read and fake)
The ending will always be mediocre garbage, it felt ridiculous that the weapon of mass destruction the Americans had suddenly decides to pulverize Manhattan and frick off. It would be highly suspicious for everyone except the US government that it was their guy/agent who out of nowhere triggered this event that is meant to have grand political repercussions. In the comic Veidt only uses technology he got thanks to Manhattan to teleport a made up gigantic fake Cthulu alien creature that butchers everyone in the city causing a terrible state of shock and horror throughout the world because of the bloody nightmare dump it creates.
I'm not a Snyder hater, like 300, MoS, BvS and I even think SZJL is the greatest comic book movie ever made but this one is just poor and want to be edgy.
Yes and it makes commies seethe. Snyder hit a home run with the cinematography and artistic style. The shots of Dr. Manhattan stomping around in Vietnam still hold up. Everything about it holds up. It was ahead of its time and gave us everything that capeshit has been lacking since DC lost their testicles and fired Snyder.

The violence and action also should've been over the top and flashy, it should've been more direct and to the point because Watchmen isn't about it's flashy violence, it's more realistic about it even if that's bit more boring.

I didn't like it at the time because I didn't "get it" and was unfamiliar with the source material.
However after rewatching, yeah it's Kino.
Almost every actor in the movie does a mediocre job or worse, and that alone prevents it from being kino. I think Jackie Earle Haley was good, even if he played Walter too over the top, as was Billy Crudup as Jon Osterman, before he goes all blue. The actress that plays Janey is fricking cute, though a bad little actress.
The birth of Dr. Manhattan scene is the best scene in the movie, far better than the intro, thanks in part to the Philip Glass music.
