Adult braces was very rare back then. Adult teeth can't be moved as quickly as children's teeth. But you'd known that if you weren't a zoomie.

braces in general were pretty rare back then. dentists would work pretty hard to talk people/parents out of them. they got better in the 90s, and are practically effortless since the 00s.

its okay dude. its clearly VERY hard to understand how specific lighting, definition, distance from the lens, unique teeth, etc, could conspire to create a display artifact that looks like braces.

but, ya know, since Blanche Ravalec has no reason to lie about not having braces, real or prosthetic, it seems that's what happened.

I remember her having braces but it's something that's a pretty obvious punchline for the scene and something that just makes sense that someone could easily write into the scene. (That's why this is such a weird one--mistaking -stain for -stein is one thing but a scene not having the obvious emphasis where it should be is just so fricking weird).

Since when has human memory ever been perfect? It's why eye witness testimony isn't reliable as evidence.

Sure the scene "makes sense with braces". That's probably why your brain thought it saw them. Just because it feels right doesn't mean anything though.

If you actually watch the scene it's not like it lingers on a shot of her smiling so you can see she has braces, she just smiles back at Jaws and it cuts. If they had meant for you to think she had teeth like his wouldn't they have let the joke land before cutting to the next shot? Because she smiles and it cuts so quickly it understandable if you didn't get a good look at her teeth and your mind filled in something that made sense and would be funny.

For the real schizophrenics that's the case. But a lot the everyday conspiracy group just jump on the bandwagon to be in the club of knowing something everyone else doesn't. Well of course they don't admit to themselves its just a desire to feel special. We all lie to ourselves about things. But the dopamine release and excitement one can feel at solving a puzzle probably also plays a role.

No. Conspiracy theorists don't do it to feel above others--they do it because their reality testing has attached itself to the idea that the only true narrative is that all mainstream narratives are false. You sound like you're projecting your own idea of superiority in calling out conspiracy theorists.

Is there a reason for that to happen? Does it just happen out of nowhere sometimes? Or is there a motivation? That's what I'm saying. The attachment happens because it appeals to the ego.

                Anonymous

It happens because they internalize the narrative to the point that it's centered within their sense of self. It isn't that they're predisposed to feel superior and seek out a narrative to throw in people's faces. Basically, they internalize a narrative and it becomes emotionally visceral when something conflicts with it. It's a form of ideological possession.

                Anonymous

you're working pretty hard on creating enough good sounding logic to completely remove ego from the equation of conspiracy theory.

i wonder if there's some sort of motivated reasoning at play behind this.

                Anonymous

No. I'm pointing out that saying they do it to feel superior to others is reductive and doesn't touch on the actual motivation of what drives such people. Now you're deflecting because you probably realize you're wrong.

                Anonymous

sorry bruh, people aren't complex, so the more complex reasoning is always going to be false.

                Anonymous

Explaining the process is complex but the process itself is not. When you internalize an ideology the world gets a lot simpler. You don't have to think anymore--you have a preset schema that defines the world and all facets of it. When something challenges it you even have little subroutines that redefine criticism at the periphery so the ideological core is never questioned. A complex version of this is something like the concept of "white fragility" or "intersectionality" in neoliberal identitarianism. For conspiracy theorists, it's as simple as dismissing facts/data because any source can be defined as a corrupt source.

Something has to draw them to becoming that invested into the ideas in the first place right? But that does make sense.

They're usually loners and conspiracy theories offer a community. They also may be politically active and they correctly realize the inherent corruption of the political system but make false attributions regarding where this comes from (i.e. they don't grow up and realize no one really has a penultimate control over everything--the world is complex and chaotic).

bruh, if it didn't feel good, there'd be nothing further. the dopamine rush and continued dopamine surges whenever "corrupt" facts are identified and dismissed is the foundation of the phenomenon. regurgitating freud's cum doesn't really mean anything.

Seriously I don't understand why Eon Productions don't cash in on this, regardless if it's fake or not. They should just photoshop a "Braces Cut" as a new Bluray release, claim it's the original cut and rake in the money.

I watched Seinfeld the other day and every character had this weird artificing on their teeth. I wasn't sure if it was just Americans wearing invisiline braces or artificing on my TV. I couldn't find anything about it on Google so I assume it's just because it's an older show it kinda looks shit.
