It gives them hip dyslpasia. The biggest shepard I owned had to have hip surgery because of it. When he got older I had to put him down because he couldn't stand anymore and there was nothing more the vets could do for him. It was a horrible thing to do to the breed, thankfully they're correcting it now; but the people who did it in the first place were buttholes.

Dogs are used for labor by humans, so they’ve been bred for a lot of different tasks over thousands of years, so there’s lots of different breeds. cats are mostly lap rugs and always have been, so less selective breeding.
