When people have a problem with the "Tegridy Farms" subplot, I feel it's not because of the actual idea itself but rather that it's a symbol of the stagnation and tiredness of South Park these days. It embodies an attitude of running a joke into the ground and pulling focus away from what the show was loved for. Randy switching careers to being a weed farmer could have been something just fine, but it's the actual writing of the show that you have a problem with. If they moved back home, nothing would change. It would be the same boring, tired old show and would still put all attention on the show's main character, Randy.

Damn, I didn't even think of it like that, but you're right.

No most likely there would be a moment where the family in solidarity tells Randy to shut the frick up and go back to sniffing rocks and cross dressing.

It's definitely a Poochie style attempt to breathe some kind of life into a show that should be long dead at this point.

That is a much older problem with Matt and Trey. They will occasionally have a joke that just doesn't land at all, but they will keep that shit up the whole episode and it makes the whole episode suck because they spend the entire 22 minutes running it further and further into the ground. (Remember Stoyle)

Tegrity Farms is just the longest running version of that repeating the same shit for too damn long. Even trans Mrs Garrison only lasted 2-3 years.

Well yeah, but it also doesn't help that focus shifted to Randy from the kids. That basically makes it a spinoff show

I think it's important to note though that Matt and Trey know people are sick of Randy, they know people are sick of the weedshit, but they also know people will keep watching it so they can troll and piss them off.

So they can wring money out of this franchise and retire as soon as it finally dies.

Trey and Matt are obsessed with promoting their brand of weed with South Park, so not at least for the foreseeable future.

Exactly. Gotta make that weed money, baby.

I think the main issue is, nowadays Weed is more legal in America than ever before (even if a few states are still holding out), and now Medical and Recreational Marijuana is just the norm now.

Matt and Trey, as well as Randy, are products of a time when smoking weed was edgy because you could go to Prison just for smoking it and it was seen as rebellious. Randy is a weed boomer lost in a world where he's no longer the edgy teen, just the cringe old geezer that looks like he's trying too hard.

The joke they were trying to pull was the fact that Colorado being the first state to legalize weed, attracted a massive emigration of people who make the fact that they smoke weed the top and biggest aspect of their life. and weed culture basically took over all aspects of Colorado society. Everything was a weed flag, Bob Marley music, leafs on everything, leaf flags over every building, and people who refused to shut the frick up about how cool it is that they can smoke in public.

The joke didn’t land, Trey. Deal with it. Your home-state’s gone

at this point they probably think of California as more of their home than colorado anyway. they've certainly adopted californian political views on most subjects.

This show should be put to rest already. South Park has such an awkward existence nowadays since the Bush-era edgelord humor the show was built on died a long time ago. South Park belongs to a completely different zeitgeist than what we have now.

I'd love it even more if they end up losing their old house to another family. It would be a nice twist to the consequences of living on the farm for so long.

Wasn't there a recent plot in a special or something where Randy gave it up and decided to move back home? Did they just pretend that never happened?

It was a bait-and-switch special. The creators acknowledged that Tegridy ruined his character but they still wanna keep it, so they’re doing this compromise where he switches from being his normal self to his weed self (all while still living in the farm).

I’m an uniroinc stoner and even I think the weed humor has become way too much in SP
