Oh and I guess there are some fair criticisms as well, direct to stream was never going to hell for instance and this film seems built for BSC

It's amazing that as they were making this movie no one pointed out that the metaphor doesn't work when it's literal fire destroying things.

Or maybe they did point it out and the upper management didn't give a shit.

Ok so the point of this movie is that all the elements are a metaphor for races. In order to emphasize this they clearly draw a parallel between Koreans and black people in LA having tensions in the markets like Menace 2 Society. But they are literally vandalizing the fricking store and the fire people are justified in their prejudice. How is anyone expected to oppose racism after watching this

They must be going through something. The last few movies they have made feel more like pet projects than the big showpieces they used to make. Disney completely destroyed them. This movie was pretty good honestly, it even had the spirit of stuff like Inside Out. But they just don't have the appeal they used to, and Disney I think intentionally sabotages shit from Pixar now. Tweeting out about the enby character who wasn't even part of the frickin movie? Really? Either they're really that up their own ass or they were intentionally sabotaging it by purposefully alienating part of the audience

        Anonymous

The previous Pixar projects WERE pet projects. They were pet projects of the old white men who built the company.

Disney had a similar situation - The Nine Old Men. The main guys who created the movies from Snow White up to The Fox & The Hound (interestingly another racial metaphor whereby a fox and hound are best friends as pups, but when they grow up and begin fighting they have to admit that they are different animals and will now promise to respect each other by staying away from each other).

          Anonymous

Also this makes me think about the change in children's entertainment. Films like the aforementioned Fox & The Hound and Watership Down were extremely popular, and the lessons were all about introducing kids to the complicated reality of adulthood. The latest batch of Pixar flicks and other industries are all about teaching kids that "everything will be fine and idealism pans out in the end"

It was more about how the hound protected the fox from human hunters and their hounds, which is why they couldn't be together

Both that movie and Bambi were pretty blatant anti-hunting for sport movies

Disney was very pro-animal rights, which is why they put out other movies like 101 Dalmatians (anti-fur trade) and Dumbo (anti-circus due to their animal cruelty)

Did they ever explain how they ameliorated the predator-prey problem in Zootopia? I mean prior to the events of the movie, how the frick did predator and prey animals get along? Were the predators transitioned into eating a meat substitute?

      Anonymous

The opening play Judy was in explained that predators just eventually evolved to no longer desire to hunt prey. This could be due to becoming more intelligent or some kind of symbiotic relationship with prey formed. Just roll with it.

The source of protein for predators seems to come from bugs, as I think there was a burger joint that used bugs in the background.

That's a good point to use against the other side sure. But what I'm seeing here is also interesting. From the Korean American director we have
        >All the stories they told me of their journey here I took for granted until I was like, 'Oh my God, they did this without speaking the language. They did this with no money. My dad was a hotdog cart guy and he made all this. I could never do that.' My empathy grew for them.
        pride in immigrant/ethnic origins
        >On the other side, I married someone that wasn't Korean, and there was a lot of culture clash with that in my world...it has been the struggle of my life for sure understanding my place and what have I assimilated or my identity being a bifurcated identity. It's always been there
alienation and confusion induced by the multi-ethnic character of America
It's like, okay you are coming to terms with being Korean and learning to respect your heritage...but also your heritage will be wiped out within one to two generations due to miscegenation. There's a contradiction in trying to affirm one's Otherness while also breeding with a different ethnicity else represents a destruction of Otherness. So, Otherness simultaneously needs to be respected and annihilated through amalgamation

Maybe we can make some culture?
We could maybe weave tapestries and showcase a striking art style and symbolism. That would be cool we could hang them everywhere. Maybe we could become a culture of festivities?? Like have lots of parades and get togethers. It would build a stronger community in addition to the culture it embiggens

it doesn't. don't bother arguing with leftist over chrisianity. they hate god, they hate jesus, they just want to use something you support, against you.
if you are going to say anything at all, twist it against them. change the conversation to an inconvenient truth against leftism to make them go on the defense.

no leftist ever argues in good faith.

christianity and capitalism have no conflict. if you're thinking "jesus fed the poor" is a problem, remember that charity is a purely voluntarist act. if Jesus was a socialist, he would have killed and robbed a bunch of people, claimed he was going to give the money to the poor, and kept it all for him and his friends.
nationalism and capitalism has some conflict as nationalism means the existence of a state, but if we're talking about a world where globalism is fighting against nationalism, then nationalism is less of an enemy to capitalism than globalism is. if the state is to exist at all, we want it to be as granular as possible.

if the leftist (or any leftist) replies back to you, all they will do is find the one part that is the weakest in your argument, focus on that, ignore everything else you stated, and use it to completely discredit everything you said.

"“Onward,” for one, about two elf brothers on a byzantine, Dungeons & Dragons-like quest to resurrect their dead father, contrives to reanimate only the bottom half of Dad for much of its run time, then withholds the extremely brief fulfillment of the quest from both the viewer and one of the brothers; the movie isn’t sad so much as it’s dismaying and vaguely sadistic."

this author completely missed the cathartic message of Onward. The ending is the best part and is the only thing that redeems that movie.

I think the filmmakers unironically included a scene from Menace 2 Society and Don’t be a Menace.
Like either they independently added it because they have no clue what they’re making, or they added it without a hint of irony at all, since the film characters literally have to act completely different knowing that “water people” cause mayhem for fire people, but they just have to sit back and accept it or whatever point the film was trying to convey, which obviously fails.
It’s just completely baffling how such a tired film could be made in 2023, literally reusing tropes/themes from 30 years ago, and the audience is supposed to take it seriously and NOT conclude that water people are complete buttholes who shouldn’t be kicked out of stores.
These Pixar people are living in a separate reality.

Maybe it wouldn't have flopped this hard if the water guy who got the hot girl in the end wasn't this fricking ugly? Just guessing.

For the next film, Pixar should go to US Ghettos and record people talking.
Then animate everything using verbatim dialogue.
Then they can redpill everyone without being called racist, because all they did was record people talking normally.
