thought they were both Italian, not just from how they look but from how they act/direct and carry themselves. I wonder how strongly they identified with being israeli after childhood
oh i didn't see the 'autist' in your first post, what's some other rain/light kino? Wong Kar Wai strikes me immediately, and the autist thing checks out there too
the worst scene is the one where he takes his future wife to the diner and explains his schizo dream page, it just drags on too long. Everything else is kino, especially the scenes with Leo
yeah, pretty odd to talk about not getting ass raped on a first date but I guess when you literally kidnap your girlfriend off the street anything goes
De Palma is a cinematography guy. His split-screens, long takes, split-focus etc are elite
Mann is more about emotion and performances
Obv both of them excel in either category but their styles focus on different things
Did you mix up the names? I feel like Mann's primary technical draw for most is his distinctive cinematography, and I wouldn't say the same for De Palma
Mann absolutely has a distinct visual style but even in his most stylistic films (like Manhunter) the focus to me seems to be on what the characters are going through, how it affects them, and how their story affects the viewer
As for De Palma, when I watch his kinos I'm hooked on what he's doing with the camera. Every time he does split-screen I jump up from my couch and shout "KINO!"
funny thing I watched Scarface and Thief back to back one day not realizing the ending credits font in Scarface was red while in Thief it was blue. interesting double feature
guy looks like Sam Hyde
I remember liking the movie but besides that it was really forgettable
powering up the acetylene torch was cool
Kys
Don't remember it at all but it was kino
this movie doesn't get a lot of discussion
Why not?
it's a complete film
Gets overshadowed by Heat.
>Thief is kino
>Yes
>What did I think of it?
dated but cool to pretend to like it
moron
Based.
Soilent.
Based.
Soilent.
mannkino
It's Mann's masterpiece. Only midwits will try to refute this.
hey its good but its no heat/collateral
Midwit detected
It's better than either
Thief>LotM>The Keep>Manhunter>Collateral>LA Takedown>>>>>>Heat
what's your problem with Heat?
One of my all time favorites
Good soundtrack and good ending
Extrememly israeli though
Wow I had literally no idea Mann was israeli. His work doesn't strike me as having any of those predilections
Caan is too
thought they were both Italian, not just from how they look but from how they act/direct and carry themselves. I wonder how strongly they identified with being israeli after childhood
Mann named his children Ami Canaan Mann and Aran Mann and if pic related is anything to go by, it looks like the latter has transitioned.
I guess I'm wrong. I thought Aran was a male name. It seems Aran Mann has always been a woman.
Jews being cremated in camps is mentioned in the dialogue of THE KEEP (1983) and Molasar could be seen as a golem.
Piece of shit and a good reason to avoid the director. Ruins Manhunter and Heat for me.
Turned the movie off after 30 minutes. Totally unlikable main character.
Watching it now, the opening scene is kino
Rain and light is the autist equivalent to moths and flame. Makes sense with Mann being an autist himself.
Yeah the opening is full of that shit, what do you mean like moths and flame?
They are similarly drawn towards them.
oh i didn't see the 'autist' in your first post, what's some other rain/light kino? Wong Kar Wai strikes me immediately, and the autist thing checks out there too
Taxi Driver
>hmm I noticed this happens in two films, I'll call it an autist thing
Shut the frick up moron.
compare with a better encode
oops
the worst scene is the one where he takes his future wife to the diner and explains his schizo dream page, it just drags on too long. Everything else is kino, especially the scenes with Leo
was that the same scene where he was explaining all the violence you must do to avoid getting raped in prison?
yeah, pretty odd to talk about not getting ass raped on a first date but I guess when you literally kidnap your girlfriend off the street anything goes
now i gotta watch this movie
good soundtrack
the relationship with Tuesday Weld was nice
Incredibly forgettable movie that people love to over-hype
I basically just summarized Michael Manns entire filmography tbqhfamalam
Trash, with good images.
Can you elabotate?
I think Michael Mann is a discount Brian De Palma
I think you're a Kansas City homosexual
Can De Palma do this?

"Doctrinaire Camus existentialism is something Frank comes upon by himself apodictically."
195597007
bait
I won't lie I only remember how Caan looked in it and the torch. Rest of the movie isn't even a blur.
Hate the actress in this movie her voice is so shrill.
