My sisters fiancé unironically just got sent to 10 years in prison for cocaine trafficking. I'm so sad for her. She had no idea and was bawling on the phone to my mom about it. She's very naive.
I used to be a casual drug user, but as I get older I think more and more I agree with the government stance that this should be illegal and punished harshly. Of course the government are completely hypocritical and it's only because of the illegality that trafficking/profiting off these substances is so immoral. But that is the reality of the situation and if you choose to then break the law and try make money off this situation, you should be punished. All these documentaries I've watched on cocaine production, cartel wars, liveleak videos etc, and not only that - cocaine itself is a toxic poison essentially and makes misery for the user. It's just basically an entire supply chain based in exploitation, criminality, misery, suffering and murder. And it's degenerate. I don't know why you'd look at this product and think yes, I want to be a part of this, I want to profit off this, I see an opportunity here to participate in this for my own gain.
There's really just nothing good about the whole supply chain. The farmer is fricked over and paid pennies, can't even grow actual food or anything good because of debt, cartel pressure, poverty etc. The environment is ruined from all the diesel and shit they use to refine it. And then it's trafficked out to criminal gangs who murder each other, displace people, make people terrified, demand guns and arms, and then corruption all through the supple chain, ports, post offices, police, government, literal narco states, etc. And all for what? So some homosexual in a club can snort it off a toilet and feel like a narcissist for 15 minutes and want more? So some Black person crackhead can shoot each other over crack sales? And not to mention all the crime that comes with drug use - violence, theft, robbery.

That's one of the points of the movie. When Elvira goes on her rant at the end, she's totally right. Tony wants a kid but he's likely not going to be alive. He's contributing to making society worse and less safe. They're both miserable and just surrounded by sycophants with no real friends or anyone to trust. And Tony says, he has everything and he's still not happy. They're losers. No one should idolize or emulate Tony, but poor people still do since they see it as climbing to the top out of the gutter and having everything they always desired. But more likely to just die on the streets or ruin plenty of other lives.
It is illegal and punished harshly and all that shit has been going on for decades and only getting more violent and poisonous.
