Think of your favorite show. Now think of it's absolute worst episodes. If you had to sell someone on your favorite show using only it's absolute weakest moments, do you think anyone would want to watch it?

I'm watching a video about DS9, and they're going over the weakest episodes and I'd forgotten just how routinely that show had absolute dog shit episodes. So I started going through all my favorite series, some of them have entire fricking seasons I'd write off.

The Always Sunny episode where they do The Gang Beats Boggs 2 with an all female cast. I literally didn’t laugh once but have to say I admire their commitment to the bit of just making a sequel but this time it’s women and not funny.

What the frick happened to that show? Every time I hear about it it's like "In season 18 Mac changes pronouns and the gang is so supportive!"

Its a hollow husk of its former self. They all look grotesquely different and all the jokes are just rehashed versions of the older jokes from when it was actually decent. It should've ended like 13 seasons ago. Many such cases

        Anonymous

Unironically the Mac actor. From what I've seen in interviews with all three of them, the other two are pretty normal. Their sense of humor remained largely unchanged, and they were often butt heads artistically. Like Charlie didn't think they should change the aspect ratio to widescreen, he thought it would change the look and feel of the show. Mac became obsessed with gimmicks though. First Mac was fat then Mac was buff then Mac was gay, and it's just gone further down that rabbithole and gotten more and more political.

There's an episode where they go back in time and become black people or something and then the hilarious "joke" is that as a result Charlie gets shot because racism. Racism is bad. Why aren't you laughing?

I never understood why Mac had to be hardgay and not bisexual. I thought it was funny he was a milf hunter in the earlier seasons. Also ironic transphobic joke when people say Mac is foreshadowed to be gay because he slept with a troony

Yeah I stopped watching years ago but it seems like it's just a big vanity project for Rob now and the rest are just along for the ride. If I was Charlie Day I'd have fricked off ages ago.

That episode was decent though. One of the last watchable seasons. Not good. Just not cringe inducing. Blacks getting shot because they’re holding a candy bar is hilarious, im tired of pretending it isn’t. Like that key and peels sketch.

Unironically they went woke. One of the huge tells was their most recent Lethal Weapon episode. They would always do "blackface" in the Lethal Weapon episodes and the joke was how tone deaf it was. In the most recent episode they basically said "We aren't doing blackface" and they literally didn't do it. The most obvious joke "Haha Mac's an idiot he still went and did it what a fricking moron," and they didn't do it. Frick these people.

I tried watching the newest season it was literally just the gang saying chud lingo constantly, like no jokes with setups or funny observations. you can feel the amount of twitter bandwidth used by the writer room’s wifi

The show Letterkenny had a similar fate. Season 1 was funny, then it just got more and more woke and way less funny. I got 15 min into the first episode of season 3 or 4 and just had to turn it off, incredibly cringe attempts to capture the banter of the original season.

Breaking Bad wasn't my favorite show, but Fly was a godawful episode. And since you bring up DS9, I counter with Babylon 5's many filler episodes, especially the most notoriously horrible episode - "Gray 17 is missing", which has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. When people recommend Babylon 5 to people, it's always with the caveat that the first season, although it has its moments, and really has to be seen to understand some future events, is really quite weak. I watched the show when it originally aired, and I guess I was young and just didn't understand how bad that season was. Surprising it wasn't cancelled, really.

Well as for DS9, there's the "Move Alone Home" or whatever it was called episode from the first season where aliens trap part of the crew in a sort of VR game that was really boring and uninteresting. Then there's Rejoined where the whole episode is just a boring soap opera where Dax is reunited with one of her symbiote's previous loves. The story was so boring they were going to scrap it until one of the writers went "What if the old lover was a woman tho?" But it's an elderly woman, so even if you were so pathetically horny seeing her make out with a chick was enough for you to mark it as good, she's making out with an elderly woman. Or even worse "Bar Association" where Nog introduces the fricking concept of Communism to the Ferengi. He spends the episode directly quoting Marx.

Or Lexx, you should almost write off the entire fourth season. They're on a living space ship from another universe but for the last season they land on Earth. Modern-day Earth. There's a couple entertaining episodes, but for every one decent one there's six or seven moronic ones, like the one where they fight a guy in a very cheap and poorly made one-armed mummy costume in Las Vegas, or the one where they meet Oberon, King of the Faeries and he wants to marry one of them -eventually he decides it's Stan he wants to frick, being a Faerie and all- so he can replace his current wife, a cross-dressing, bearded midget.

The entire point of the Ferengi is that they're an entire species obsessed with capitalism and trade. Introducing communism and feminism to them is like having a revolution among the Klingons where they collectively become pacifists, or having the Vulcans become obsessed with expressing their emotions.

You're dodging the point, anon. Being money obsessed capitalists is their most interesting character trait. If you remove that and make them commies, they're just midgets with big ears. When you create one of these species with one of these special traits and it's why people like them, you don't frick with that trait. No matter how your shitty politics make you want to because commerce triggers you.

I didn't recall this episode at all until I just looked it up. I do recall the based fight between Cole and Neroon, so this episode wasn't without redeeming qualities I suppose.

The only episode of B5 that I really absolutely hated and that had no redeeming qualities whatsoever imo was the boxing episode pretty early in season 1 where Garibaldi manages some alien boxer or whatever, it was the definition of godawful.

I really hated the pilot episode, at least I think it was. The one with the angry Spanish waiter or whatever. They go over to his house and let his cat out and he just keeps angrily saying in spanish "THE DOOR... IS OPEN! THE DOOR... IS OPEN!!!" I always thought that was the show's weakest episode. That first season in general had a few moments that didn't work for me.

It went from a cool mystery show with scary nightmare creatures to a lesbian junkie drama slopfest. And the other is Righteous Gemstones, this most recent season had waaaay too much gay shit and the entire season was basically pointless. The first season had it's weak points as well though. The scene with the lady cop with the robo arm fighting the army of naked Asian chicks was the highlight of the entire series, but the lowpoint was what I can only call "ugly black knife daughter". That shit was horrendous. Suddenly she's an enlightened super assassin because her AI program threw a knife at a target over and over? Her dialog was all cringe and she actress was depressingly ugly.

Even S2 of Righteous Gemstones was a little meh. I've seen a lot of people on the internet saying S3 was their favorite because of le character development but I can't think they genuinely mean that. It's almost become the "everyone act like Danny McBride" show, the crazy cult leader cousin guy acted like Danny, the family acts like Danny, I think even John Goodman started doing it more. Similar to the mom and dad in Young Sheldon (only know thi because my gf started watching it), they both act like the same exact character. I can only tak so much Danny McBride delivery style at once, having an entire cast of people do it is just way too much imhotbqhwyf

The Shield, Aceveda is a hispanic higher up on te show, the show is about dirty cops. I forget how he ended up on scene with criminals, but some drug dealer holds him at gunpoint and forces him to suck his dick. And it's not like a quick thing, this shit goes on and on and we get a scene of him throwing up in a toilet afterwards and it becomes his character's defining fricking trait that one time he got forced to suck drug dealer dick. Every episode from then on for like two seasons would open with a recap of it. It came up over and over and effected every aspect of his life. He becomes turned on when he sees footage of other people raped as a result. The entire storyline can be pretty hard to swallow for some viewers.

Damn..sounds fricked up. Is the whole show that dark?

          Anonymous

It's a good show, but yeah definitely. It's loosely based on an actual squad of dirty cops who were assigned to take out a bunch of drug lords, but in reality they just took over all the criminal activity themselves. The character actions are often pretty dark and well written, though there were some weak storylines, like the gay black cop. He just marries a woman, goes into the closet and disappears of the show.

But yeah, one episode these two gangs have been at eachother's throats killing eachother over this turf war so Macky nabs them both, disarms them and stuffs them in the dark in a storage container. He thought they'd be so pissed at him they'd make up while they were locked in there and talk out their differences. Instead he gets there and one of them killed the other one. He just walks out and looks at the sunrise and after the realization hits Mackey he just turns to him and goes "...You wanna get some pancakes?" At another point one of the guys on the squad goes undercover in a wienerfighting ring to get closer to one of the cartels, but then he actually gets attached to his wiener, so when it dies in a big fight he is pissed and fricks up the whole deal to get revenge for his rooster. (I might be remembering a detail of that wrong.) Or there was this other detective not on the dirty cop squad who was supposed to be like a genius profiler and detective. One episode he gets a little too deep into a serial killer's head, the killer manages to convince him to try killing an animal when he gets home. He strangles a stray cat he'd been feeding to death just to see how it felt.

Or the scene that to me always epitomized the entire series was the pedophile interrogation scene. "He's got the girl hidden somewhere, if we don't cut him loose she'll die." "If we do cut him loose he's just going to go kill her. Let me keep interrogating him, I'll break him." Third option: They call in Mackey: https://youtu.be/yID-laN-uqM?si=5_BVvb5qx9orzvpf

I'd bet if someone listed all the bad episodes you'd find some common names. Like that episode about Dax rekindling a romance with an old lady? That was a decision from the guy who went on to create the Battlestar Galactica reboot. I will give him credit for one thing though.

If you go back and watch CSI there's an episode with this guy doing a "gritty and edgy" reboot of what's basically Star Trek, only in version everything's grim and everyone's a murderous degenerate drug addict. It's obvious this was meant to be a parody of the BSG remake, because then who stands up in the audience? The guy who made the BSG remake, and he points at the guy who's clearly a parody of himself and shouts "YOU SUCK!"
