Yeah, it really was one of the more heroic things in recent history
It was also fascinating that cave diving is so highly specialised yet non-professional that it's really only done by a few dozen hobbyists who get called up to do rescues.
Cave diving is sick. You can be a seasoned professional who knows exactly what he's doing, who functions in stressful situations and who would not make rash decisions and you still have a decent chance of dyine one day.
What exactly is it about cave diving that is dangerous? Is it people losing their way and running out of oxygen or what?
Anytime you're underwater and can't surface is inherently dangerous, combine that with tight spaces and low visibility and you can easily get into trouble.
The silt you perturb in the caves can make the water completely opaque from one second to the next. Many cave divers died just because they didn't find their way back and ran out of air. Combine that with narrow passages, you can get stuck and panic, or damage some vital part of your equipment etc. The "Scary Interesting"youtube channel has a few detailed narrations of cave diving disasters, they are very well done too
Yea it was news kino to keep updated about this every day. Elon Musk also had a bizarre meltdown during this calling one of the divers a pedophile for no reason and getting sued.
>Elon Musk also had a bizarre meltdown during this calling one of the divers a pedophile for no reason
LMAO dude was a total pedo
How do you know?
Also before you go on a schizo tangent Elon's logic was calling someone "a pedo guy" was a common South African insult and had nothing to do with being an actual pedo and he won the defamation suit so Elon's own literal words were he was not calling him a pedophile. Ok now begin your nonsense knowing all of that
how is colin farrel in this? I'm not gonna watch the movie because i don't give a frick about the topic. I just wanna confirmed whether he had the greatest acting year in history
>batman
>after yang
>banshees
>thirteen lives?
He's great in the movie, his character is an IT consultant by profession and he's a practical minded, mild mannered guy who is also doing some of the most dangerous rescue work in the world.
Does the movie reference Elon Musk's stupidity at all?
No, there's no mention of him or his "mini submarine" plan.
What the frick is the point of the movie then, did Elon "ratface pedo" Musk order the movie to whitewash his moronation?
Elon was a minor part of the actual story. He was trying to latch on to the rescue to make a name for himself and you know what kudos to him. This used to be a thing rich people did back in the day even though the motivation is self promotion so it was refreshing to see it again. Howard Hughes used to do this shit all the time.
I was hoping it would pop up but it's for the best it was left out since it would have been out of place.
Much like Musk trying to be part of the rescue attempt.
>He's great in the movie
so it's confirmed
Oh shit they finally made the prequel?
Who played the pedo or was he downplayed like in the doco?
>shitty situation happens
>white people have to save the day
You are going to see less and less of heroic shit like this as whites disappear
I used to think I was dead inside but I genuinely was emotionally invested in this and happy when I heard the kids got out safe. One of the last great human success stories.
>According to Rick Stanton, Thirteen Lives accurately depicts the Thai cave rescue - except the underwater scenes. Stanton and the other divers could hardly see underwater, but this was adapted in the movie to allow audiences to see the action.
Elon Musk's idea was stupid but their eventual plan wasn't that much better. They didn't have the time to frick around.
>Elon Musk's idea was stupid but their eventual plan wasn't that much better.
Musk's idea wasn't possible, while their idea was. There was no way for a minisub to maneuver in that cave.
Elon's solution could have worked he just needed time they didn't have. No way would agree to be in his mini coffin subs he just made last week but I bet if he had 6-12 months it could have worked. What they actually did sounded horrifying to the survivors.
There were sections of the cave where the divers had to push the boy they were carrying ahead of them, since the gap was too narrow for two people to pass. Is there a minisub that could have navigated that?
Not yet that's the point.
You're actually fricking moronic.
No you are.
Why didn't they just stick an air pipe into the cave and then drill as long as it takes to get people out? Could be a pipe with food too.
>Why didn't they just stick an air pipe into the cave and then drill as long as it takes to get people out? Could be a pipe with food too.
Well experts?
Me neither. I only remember think something "a few asiatics got stuck inside a cave, sucks to be them". The movie was really amazing at portraing the size of this heroic deed.
